http://www.geocities.ws/Colosseum/Field/6609/sid2.jpg   5/6/08 - Abraham Lincoln
Tuesday night's match against Abraham Lincoln had all the qualities that a contest between two city prep foes in any sport would have: Athleticism, emotion and, perhaps most prevalent, physicality.  It's just a city game,  It's gonna be a physical game when it's city teams against city teams. That's just how it's always been.  In a very closely contended match, we ultimately prevailed with a 2-1 shootout victory.  We battled the Lynx through two 40-minute halves and two overtime periods yet couldn't produce a winner in 100 minutes of action.  With the score tied 1-1, we went to a shootout to find a winner.

A.L.'s first two shooters, both beat Zane Brugenhemke, however, Kyle Larkin and Tommy Von Mende responded for us and evened the shootout total at two goals apiece.  A.L. scored to get  a 3-2 advantage, as Logan Stichler was denied by Lynx goalkeeper Sterling Schneidwind.  That gave the Lynx a chance to distance themselves from the Titans, but Brugenhemke had other plans.  After Brugenhemke stopped AL's next attempt, Nate Draeger evened the shootout tally at three when he beat Schneidwind.   Brugenhemke next denied Emanuel Valdez, the Lynx's final shooter, giving the us an opportunity to win the game.  Those last two saves were outstanding, Zane won the game for us.  He's a senior who really deserved that win.  He's been down on himself a bit lately and this was big for him and the teams belief in him.  He made a couple key saves just to get us to overtime. Zane did a great job.  We found ourselves with a mark in the win column after Kyle Herren scored the game-winner as darkness began to set in at City Park.  It's a good win for us; a typical city game, both teams played hard.  Both teams played very physical.  The Lynx struck first on a pass across the goal box.  they scored giving A.L. a 1-0 lead 24 minutes into the first half.  We responded with 25 minutes remaining in the game when Von Mende scored on a penalty kick when AL was called for a foul on Kyle Larkin in the box.   Defense proved to be the difference for us tonight.  Varsity will travel to Norwalk on Saturday for a 3 game tournament.  Please join us as we will need all of your support to get through the day.  Our first match will be at 11:30 on field 3 against Nevada.

JV picked up their 4th win and second win in a row for the season.  They continue to play well, play well together, and are a great pleasure to watch.  They are very coach able this year and listen to what we have to say and work together to accomplish it.  JV will finish off the season of Tuesday at city field against cross town Thomas Jefferson.
