  5/08/06 Harlan
What a game tonight as Harlan comes to town for our final home game of the season.  First it was Senior parents night as we said Thank you and good luck to 5 Seniors.  Our seniors this year are Dan Fisher, Alex O'Neill, Jach Dyson, Pablo Navarrete, & Alex Seliak.  Thank you for the past 4 years and above all Good Luck to you as you step out in the world in you new life.  Tonight's game was all that we were expecting, a good hard fought battle down to the end.  Harlan was 9-2 coming into the game and we had every reason to believe that it was not going to be easy.  The game starts and it doesn't take long to figure out their approach to the game.  They have good speed on the top so all they do is boom ball, go straight up and down the field, and hope they beat you to the ball.  Defensively we are able to handle the speed and shut them down each time they come in.  Riley Landolt plays another great game with 8 saves in regulation.  We finally score with 8 minutes left in the first half as Harlan is called for a foul in the box and we are awarded a Penalty kick.  Pablo Navarrete steps up and puts it away to go up 1-0.  They turn it up now and make several attempts before the half but we continue to shut them down and go into the half up 1-0.  The second half they really come out hard and are winning everything and have taken control of the game.  At the 20 minute mark they manage to get inside and tie up the game.  The last 5 minutes we make a couple of runs on goal but can't finish and we go to OT.  We feel we controlled the OT and had again several opportunities that come up empty handed.  Riley made a game saving save with 25 seconds left in the first OT and again with 1 minute, 20 seconds left in the second OT.  We are going to a shoot out.  They miss their first two attempts and Pablo Navarrete and Dan Fischer put us up 2-0 in the OT.  One more miss or save and we are done.  They make their next two goals so it is not over just yet.  Adam Larkin makes his and puts up 3-2.  We can end it now but their keeper makes a save on our next shot so we go on.  They make their last and final attempt and we are tied again at 3.  Our final kicker has to make it to end the game or we go on.  Evan Summy steps up to the line, he has been here before.  He kicked the game winner in a shoot out against St. Alberts.  Evan won that game and he does it again putting away the game winner and we are going home and moving to 7-1.  This was a tough one tonight and we were lucky and happy to come out on top.  Once again I guess it says alot when you find a way to win.  This was by far the best Harlan team we have seen since they started playing soccer.  Tomorrow we are back in action again as we go to city field to take on cross town AL.  The JV game will start at 4:30pm.  Join us tomorrow night, cheer on your TITANS.

JV played their heart out as well and managed to walk away with another tie.  Overall we played well and managed to play some possession.  Their JV plays the same style of ball as the Varsity.  It is very hard to play against boom ball.  You work hard moving the ball around, putting together several touches and moving down field.  One bad pass or lost 50/50 ball and boom, the ball heads back to the other end and you have to start over.  Our loan goal tonight was made by Scott Nelson on a set play.  It was a great shot on goal and the keeper had no idea where it was until it hit the back of the net.  Great kick Scotty.  This goal managed to tie up the game and that was the way it stayed.  In this game we also had several lost opportunities to score.  We took shots from 6 yards out and put it over the net.  We need to finish these when we have these kind of opportunities.  Our goal is still to get these guys back on the right track and log a win.  We will look to do that tomorrow against AL.
