   5/10/10 - Kuemper -

We traveled to Kuemper tonight for a conference game.  It is cold, windy, drizzling, and not a night to be playing soccer.  We win the coin toss and decide to take the wind in the second half.  Well, we give up a quick goal in the first 30 seconds of the game rather than just before the half as we have done in previous games.  The wind is terrible, and the ball is going everywhere.  They get a second goal before the half and we have our work cut out for us the second half.  We now have the wind advantage and we need to take some shots.  Six minutes into the half the keeper sends the ball out after a shot on goal, the defender runs away from it and Miguel Ramos is there to take the ball and hit on goal.  It was a great shot on goal and it caught the keeper off guard.  We are now down 1-2.  That is where it stays for the game.  We had a few shots on goal that went high or wide, but very few shots on goal, and we couldn't put another away.  It is another conference loss and a real heart breaker.  We will have a tough one again tomorrow night as we travel to city field to play cross town rival AL.  It will start with JV first at 4:30.

JV tonight only got to play one half due to numbers for Kuemper.  JV played the second game tonight after Varsity, so it was getting colder and starting to rain now.  They sat on the sidelines until the end of the Varsity match trying to keep warm and basically had no time to warm up.  I challenged them to figure it out, if they came to play then show me, if you are cold and don't want to play then go back to the bus.  We took the wind first this time and went right at them.  We scored first when Jacob Charleson heads a perfect through ball to Todd Whisinnand,  Todd wins the race to the ball and had a break away on the keeper, Todd took a hard shot and hammered it into the back of the net, up 1-0.  Then about twenty eight minutes into the game Okola Esbeck did his trade mark WALK THE LINE play.  He won the ball in the corner, dribbled around two defenders walking the sideline, worked his way to the keeper and hit it.  It bounced off the keeper and into the goal.  Great job Okola.  We are now up 2-0 and look to increase the defensive support.  Trevor Stephens works the defense in goal with Brian Fountain, Kelly Lane, and Zach Finley in front of him to lock down the shutout.  Great effort, great heart, and way to step up tonight by the JV squad.
