When Russell Hoult came to the Hawthorns from Portsmouth in January 2001, he was second choice keeper to Brian Jensen. To begin with he didn't get much of a look in due to 'The Beasts' excellent performances, but when he finally did get his chance; Russell quickly made the position of first choice keeper his own and hasn't looked back since.
Only missing one game all season due to injury, Russell has kept an incredible twenty-five clean sheets all season in all competitions, a club record. Nearly always the last player off the pitch and always celebrates the fans, who likewise congratulate him on his terrific performances, making him one of the more popular players at the club.
