( taken from Kerrang): The pressure is always on in England... although I don't know too much about the gig itself. Knebworth? Nah... I'm off to see U2 that day myself!.

tour programme

"So who doubted them then, eh? C'mon, WHO DOUBTED THEM!? As Deep Purple plugged into the driving power of 'Highway Star' and rocked rampantly through 'Nobody's Home' with Ritchie Blackmore rolling in and out of some astounding solos, the years fell away meekly and the reincarnation of a legend exploded on us in a fireball of glory".(Kerrang)

Knebworth for me is the best place to go and watch your fave bands. It must be the history of the place, classic bands that have played there, the grounds etc. The Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Queen and Deep Purple are a few of the bands to play there.

Review

This was the first Rock Festival I went to and boy was it wet. It was the middle of summer but it felt like the middle of autumn. I remember being cold, tired and bored by most of the bands on the bill(apart from Blackfoot, with their American southern boogie). Meat Loaf fell on his arse as he had a plaster cast on (bl**dy awfull set). When Deep Purple came on it made the wait worthwhile. The classic MK2 line up had reformed the year before, and here they were back in their homeland playing live classics like "Highway Star", "Black Knight" and soon to be classic "Perfect Strangers". Ritchie Blackmore came on and played in his wellington boots. This was the first of many purple gigs that I was to go to, but this was the best. For two hours you really did forget about the rain.

After the gig they forgot to put any lighting for the mugs who saw the concert, everyone was slipping in the mud on the way back to the campsite. All the fun of the Fayre!
