I still remember the first time I saw Scarecrow and Mrs. King.
I was in college and coming into the dorm from a Monday night class.
I noticed a group around the community tv and peeked a look at what they were watching.
It was a woman talking on the phone, in an ordinary tv kitchen. And then she said something. I don't remember what she said,but how she said it made me think. Where had I seen her before?
I sat down on the couch and watched some more. She was really beginning to bug me and then it all became clear. I didn't want to believe it. It was Kate Jackson: AKA--Sabrina Duncan.
We weren't really allowed to watch Charlie's Angels when I was a kid which means we did everything we could to get to watch it. My sister and our friend, Beth, would play Charlie's Angels, but no one ever wanted to be Sabrina. Even though we agreed she was the smartest and the least likey to get killed, we always had her on vacation, while Jamie Summers or Wonder Woman came to help out.
But to make a long story short, that's what caught my attention to this show. After about 10 minutes, I saw something else that caught my attention--Bruce Boxleitner!
I watched the show so faithfully, I quit taking Monday night classes.:) I can't quite explain what it is about this show that appeals to me so, but below are my top ten reasons why Lee and Amanda deserve to be in the TV Couple Hall of Fame
1. The characters were not predestined to become a couple. The intention was never there, in fact the first script had Amanda married.
2. The relationship was allowed to grow naturally. Even before romance was considered, the actors played their parts so well, the characters were in love before anyone knew it.
3. The fact that Lee was a lady's man, made the relationship that more appealing.
4. Lee and Amanda geniuely liked each other. Even with all of his complaining and rolling his eyes and that afterlasting "Amanda" sigh of aggravation, he liked her. And she liked him, for being him. Not just because he was handsome, but because he was Lee.
5. They would do anything for each other.
6. The electricity between them was so strong, the people around them could feel it.
7. Even when they were mad at one another, they were still concerned and always taking care of one another. ( ie:Wrong Number)
8. They never let their realtionship get in the way of their job, even when they wanted it too. Professionals to the end, they still knew how to have fun.
9. The first kiss!
10. I can't really think of anything else to say except that this has to be the best show of all time. Kate Jackson and Bruce Boxleitner had such a connection with their characters that they became people we loved and we're concerned about and you still get that shivery feeling the first time Lee tells Amanda he loves her. After all these years.
