Musical Events That Shocked the World
Here are some historical music moments for me. This is a crazy photo of me way back in 1989.Sign my guestbook and tell me your favorite pieces of music history. Here are some of mine:
-
First item of music purchased ever: Norm Norman "You're a Zombie" b/w "Who Are You" 7-inch record, 1983. Purchased at Tower Records on Beach in SF.
-
First album purchased: Madness - Madness. Featured the hits "Our House" and "It Must Be Love". Bought at the now defunct Record Factory chain at Bayfair Mall.
-
First cassette purchased: Adam Ant - Strip. After I saw his live show, I never listened to the tape again (see below).
-
First CD purchased: Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime. I was the biggest Mindcrime fan - as if Geoff Tate was the 2nd coming of Roger Waters...
-
First concert attended: 1983, Adam Ant's "Strip" Tour, with Mr. Mister opening (before their "Broken Wings" fame). Adam Ant singing from a water tank and stripping off his clothes for thousands of screaming pre-teen girls made me realize that his music stunk.
-
Favorite club show: Tool had a free show at Slim's in San Francisco, back in '92, after Opiate had been released. Blew me away with the raw energy & power.
-
Bands that I've seen give exceptional performances: Depeche Mode at the Cow Palace in 1984 (Some Great Reward Tour), Def Leppard's Hysteria tour in 1987, Metal Church at the Omni (RIP) in 1988, Primus at the Stone (RIP) in 1989, Faith No More at the Warfield in 1994, Clutch at Berkeley Square (RIP) in 1994, Fu Manchu at Bottom of the Hill in 1998, Queens of the Stone Age at the Cactus Club in 1999, Travis at the Fillmore in July 2000, Coldplay at the Fillmore in February 2001, Grandaddy at the Fillmore in 2002...
-
Bands that I've seen that were/are terrible: Megadeth, Joe Satriani, R.E.M., Van Hagar
-
TV Trivia: My favorite TV sitcom was Three's Company. I watched it because it aired during my puberty and I had a crush on Teri (Priscilla Barnes). She was the nurse I wanted to be sick with...
-
Favorite cartoons: Family Guy, Sealab 2021, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Space Ghost, Beavis & Butthead, and Ren & Stimpy. Muddy Mudskipper rules!
