I See You
Copyright 2004: Second Wind

Ain't got no picket fence like on the TV screen
But out front sits the picnic bench my Nanny always dreamed
It wasn't much, it was just enough to see your whole life through
And now everytime I start to cry
'Cause when I see it, I see you

As far as one could see was the limit to this land
I remember that old maple tree, how proud it used to stand
But now it's gone far from the farm and the acres are too few
It seems all the time I wonder why
When I see it, I see you

I drift away in time to the past when you were here
With a smiling face and a warm embrace to comfort crying tears
What I wouldn't give to tell you all the things I plan to do
To keep this house a monument
Of what I see when I see you

The cracks there in the sidewalk are growing longer everyday
And the cornfeilds try to talk, but I can't hear what they say
'Cause they're gone for good and if I could I'd bring them back real soon
And now everytime I close my eyes
And try when I see you
