--------------------Biography-----Section 3 of 9

In April 1970, Freddie, Brian, and Roger decided to hook up and form a band. Freddie changed his name by deed poll to Mercury and the band's name was changed to Queen. In February 1971, John Deacon was taken on as the fourth member of Queen, after three temporary bassists had been and gone. That is how Queen began! Freddie also came up with the logo for the group - He based his design on the four band members birth signs. Brian was a cancer - Roger and John both Leos and Freddie was a Virgo - So his finished logo featured two lions holding up a ‘Q' around a crown.
There was a crab on top and two fairies (for Virgo) playing at the bottom. Rising behind it all was a phoenix - a symbol of Queens success rising out of the ashes of Ibex, Smile, Sour Milk Sea and Wreckage. Their debut single was ‘Keep Yourself Alive' and it flopped - So did their first album ‘Queen'. Their second album ‘Queen II ‘ did better and pulled up sales of their first album with it.
