LotR EXTRA
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King won the Critic's Choice Award for Best Picture!
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King has been nominated for Best Picture for the Academy Awards. Other candidates are Mystic River, Cold Mountain, Seabiscuit, Master and Commander, Lost in Translation & The Last Samurai. Master and Commancer & Seabiscuit are more likely to be overlooked.
Up for Best Actor are many actors from the nominated Best Picture films this year. Except a very popular candidate, Johnny Depp is nominated for his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Russell Crowe is up for his role in Master and Commander, and Tom Cruise is also nominated for his role in The Last Samurai. Others range from Jude Law in Cold Mountain & Sean Penn in Mystic River.
It seems that a wildcat category for Best Supporting Actor may possibly be Sean Astin for his role as Samwise Gamgee, supporting main character Frodo Baggins who was played by Elijah Wood.
The Lord of the Rings also has a shot at Best Original Screenplay, but is "iffy" as it was transcribed originally from a novel. It has a chance of nomination, but has not yet been nominated, just a possible candidate at this point.
The Lord of the Rings has a chance at receiving a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay, as well as other Best Picture nominations including Cold Mountain & Mystic River. Even Seabiscuit & Master and Commander are also thought to have a bit of a chance.
On the 19th of December, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the seven films that are worthy of Achievement in Visual Effects Oscar Award. Those 7 films are:
The Hulk
X-Men 2
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World
Peter Pan
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines
The Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, AND
The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King!!!!!!
On the 19th of December, the nominations for Golden Globe Awards were announced. Cold Mountain came first, with 8 nominations, followed by Lost in Translation & Mystic River which both received 5 nominations each. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King came third with four. Two of the four included Best Picture and Best Director: Peter Jackson.
