next day's entry
igirisu no shakai ni tokekonde iru...
Greetings from the still sunny UK! We've had six days of sunshine, and I have decided that Mother Nature is making up for all of the rain that John experienced last term (no offence or anything!)! :oP It has been quite chilly though...go figure!
Yesterday was my middle-of-the-week day off, and I was planning on studying all day. Yeah right. The beautiful weather got me walking around outdoors. I think I'm finally over mono and London is speeding up my recovery! I walked down to school in Bloomsbury to submit some forms and then headed to Citibank on Oxford St. (my ATM card should arrive at m CT address within a few weeks' time)...after that I headed down beautiful Regent Street towards Piccadilly Circus, stopping of course at the British Airways' Travel Shop to buy someones' tickets to Rome. Hmmm...I wonder who that could be? I headed towards Leicester Square and Soho from Piccadilly to eat my pb&j sandwich, but the smell of Chinatown doomed me...I couldn't resist some take-away cheung fun, my favorite long shrimp noodles!
After eating my dim sum in Leicester Sq., I walked towards Trafalgar and the royal area of town near the Thames. I'm getting pretty good at finding my way around without keeping my nose in a guidebook! Thank god I have a good sense of direction! Anyway, Trafalgar Sq. is quite interesting, you can feed the pigeons there and it offers great views of the National Gallery. Continuing on my journey, as I headed towards the houses of parliament I mysteriously ran across the changing of the queen's guard in Whitehall. :) There were lots of protests out front of Parliament to protest hunting (a ban on hunting passed parliament and was enacted today), and I walked to Westminster Abbey. I wasn't certain if I wanted to pay the money to go inside, but I did and it was beautiful! I saw tombs of lots of famous people including Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Victoria, and Mary, Queen of Scots. Finally, after Westminster, I hopped on the tube back up to Angel to buy some juice before heading home and crashing!
Today wasn't as exciting; I had two classes. However, I made a new friend--Holly who lives across the hall--and that made me happy. I attempted to read one-hundred pages on 2000 years of christianity and it just didn't move me...so I ended up skimming it. But I had yummy Indian take-away for lunch and also looked for a bed-and-breakfast for M&D...I think I'm going to get one in Bloomsbury on Gower Street, I checked out the ones in Cartwright Gardens and they just weren't that nice, certainly not worth $150. I'll find something tomorrow and e-mail you when I do.
My friend Maryam is taking the train in from Oxford tomorrow and on Saturday we'll take the train to Canterbury with Geera, another American. In two weeks, Maryam and I are going to Bath together, we have a room that costs 35 pounds for the night...which is really quite cheap...and it's in a guest house that only has two guest rooms! I love travelling around England! And I love it here! Can't wait to see y'all here...miss you bunches!
