LTHL 2004 Winter Sessions

Rob Chargo, left, gets the first place medal from Rich Parker.

Playoffs
LTHL Week 8 (Playoffs) Summary: By Rich Parker The L.T.H.L. met for the eighth and final time on March 20th when nine players participated in the post-season playoffs of the 2004 winter Stiga league. Before the tournament began, Rob Chargo received his medal for placing first in the regular season and Paul Slezak was honored with the Sportmanship award. The theme for the day was upset and overtime as not a single first seed in any division won their championship and 12 games went into "sudden death." The A division, ended up being a two horse race between Chargo and Ron Marsik. The cagey and crafty veteran, Marsik, prevailed to win the crown. In the B division, second seed Dan Lord captured the title. At first glance, it appears that Lord ran away with it but, in actuality, the games were extremely close as Rich Parker took him into 3 overtimes and Eric Krol added another. The Cinderella story of the day occurred in the C division where last seed, Paul Slezak, overcame Kevin Parker in the last rounds to win the championship. This division featured the most even competition of any group and the greatest number of overtimes. Overall, the matches were close with very few lop-sided results. Congratulations to all the playoff participants and their high-level of play.

Week 7 Report: By Jim Rzonca

Hello Everybody. Lemont Table Hockey League Week #7 was played today at Rich Parker's home in Lemont Illinois. 11 players hit the plastic for double round robin action. Most of us played 18 games apiece folks. Rob Chargo took the day off. It was good to see that Ron Marsik, Jeff Farwell and Jerry Pytlewski were back on the tables. The highlight of the day was when Dan Lord started swearing at everyone pissing us all off so we all took him out to the yard and beat the pulp out of him with a baseball bat!! LOL!! But nothing faZez Dan. Hard as nails still smartin off/crackin jokes. He came back to the tables to post an impressive 12-4-2 record and to me appeared to be the most improved player today along with Kevin Parker who also looked very much improved. Also, we had a rash of ties today. like never before. Note that Eric Krol had 7 ties in 18 games played. For us, thats a record.

Week 6 Report: By Jim Rzonca, as posted on the Table Hockey Tavern.
Well we wrapped up LTHL week 6 this afternoon at Rich Parker's home. Rob Chargo continues to rule. I was able to beat Rob in his very first game but after that he steamrolled over everytng in sight going 14-1 for the first place finish in our double round robin today. Eric Krol showed some flash and Dan Lord appears to have turned it up a little. Here are the players names and records for Feb. 28, 2004. I'm not sure how many games you guys in other STIGA leagues play per week, but 14-18 games per session feels about right for us here in Lemont. Rob Chargo leads the Lemont Table Hockey League with a 67-5-4 record. That's the real tally with zero no-show wins. We play round robin each and every time so there aren't any no shows. Rob looks great and we wish him all the Best in Philadelphia. Rob has been on the Stiga for about 10 months now. Thats it. Still improving he is already one hell of a STIGA player. Best Wishes in Philadelphia Rob!

Week 4 Report: By Jim Rzonca Rob Chargo finished first with overall with a 15-2-1 record. The CTHL Bruins finished second at 13-4-1. Me and Rob Chargo played a 5 game set. Chargo won the first 2 games 6-2 and 4-1. Da Bruins took games 3 and 4 2-1 and 3-2. Game 5 ended in a 3 all tie. Paul Slezak beat me 2-1 and played me to a draw at 3 apeice. Paul's play is improving. And so is his mileage. He drives all the way from Champaign, Ill. to play Stiga with us! Thank you Paul. Dan Lord took me out 5-4 and was tied by Chargo at 3. But Dan is not improving. Sorry Len. Next time you come to Lemont you can write the play by play.

Week 2 Report (courtesy Jim Rzonca)

The Lemont Table Hockey League played week #2 of its 2004 Winter Season this afternoon at Richard Parkers Place. Its all round robin thre are no forefits. Every win is earned. Big thanks to Tavern member Paul Slezak for joining out league traveling every week from Champaign Illinois to join the FUN. Garry "Da Bomber" Butler played hs first LTHL week today and did not break one damn thing! UNBELIEVABLE! So Butler is awarded the #1 Star of the night for not breaking anything AND beating Ron Marsik 2-1. It should have been a shutout but Da Bomber put one in his own net. Thankyou Garry Butler, you let us off easy today. Richard Parker appeared "the most improved" player. Here is the 8 player double round robin totals.

Week One Report: The Lemont Table Hockey League fired up the Stigas for the first time in the league's first-ever winter session Saturday. For most of the guys, it's Coleco on Sunday nights in the winter, but newcomer (to us) Dr. Richard Parker is a Stiga enthusiast and put together a great setup in his basement and was a great host. He did not have to fix any teeth, however, as the pucks mostly stayed on the ice. Thank you to the Parker family for hosting this new league in the Chicago area. I'll hit the highlights. Ron Marsik took first place with an 11-1 mark. His only loss was to Rob Chargo, who won that one 2-1. Rzonca took second, with his only loss coming to Marsik, I believe by a 2-1 score (I don't have the box scores with me). Rzonca also tied Chargo 1-1 on a long goal from his own end. Chargo came in third, defeating Marsik as Rzonca promised, but tying Rzonca and yours truly, Eric Krol, 1-1. A little box defense and an own goal by Rob were the difference makers there. Chargo and Jeff Farwell squared off in the final game of the single round robin. If Chargo, who was 9-0-2 at the time, won, he'd take first by virtue of his tiebreaker win over Marsik. But Farwell played tough and won a one-goal game, 6-5 I believe, leaving Chargo in third. Farwell took fourth to round out the top finishers. Host Rich Parker played well and his teenage son Kevin reeled off impressive wins against Krol and LTHL runner-up Jeff Thill. Thank you to Paul Slezak, who travelled 2 hours from Champaign to play some TH, and his friend Bob Erwin, who came from about an hour away in Palatine.
