Domain 5: Building Learning Networks

Candidates create professional partnerships to create learning opportunities for themselves and their students

Professional partnerships give one another set of eyes, an additional knowledge base and a sounding board. Too many times, one can not see what needs to change in order for student learning to take place. Teachers like many other professionals become stuck. They are stuck doing the same things over and over even if those things do not work. Through a partnership with others a teacher can find new ways that may work. A classroom is a student learning environment, but everyone in that room is a student. Through the collection of data connected with learning, the teacher can sit with other professionals and look for means to increase learning. If two teachers are teaching the same thing, student learning data collected and compared, it is possible to find the best ways to approach the desired content learning goals.
