Geshe Tenzin Rabgye was born in Lhasa, Tibet in the year 1931. At
eight years of age he entered Sera Monastery. There he studied subjects such as the
Prajna-Paramita, Madhyamika (Middle Way), and the Vinaya. In 1959 Geshe Rabgye left Tibet
and fled to India and stayed at the Baxaar camp in Assam with many other monks and Lamas
and continued his studies. In 1971 he completed his studies and passed his exams and
became a Lharampa Geshe, the highest degree at Sera Monastery in south India. After Sera Monastery, Geshe Rabgye entered Gyuto Tantric College and studied there. At the invitation of H.H.Dalai Lama Geshe Rabgye became an instructor at Namgyal Monastery, teaching there for sixteen years, teaching the highest class. Geshela helped to found Namgyal Monastery's branch center in Ithaca, New York. He stayed there for three years. After his tenure at Namgyal, Geshela was appointed abbot of the Tibetan monastery in Bodh Gaya Geshe Rabgye has also taught at the Jangchub Choling Center in Italy. |
