the main window is the window with a title that says
"frank's java cellular automaton program" and has a menu too
Problem: I just add a keyword to the options.txt file or a save text file and saved it and
reload it in to the program, it does not recognize the keyword that I just add
Solution:
make sure the keyword spell correctly and all its letters are in lowercase
Problem: the Z key, instead of going back to prev generation
clears the board
Solution:
try pressing the B key to go back
what there was before the board was clear
and try using the B key instead of the Z key to go back
1 generation
some versions use the B key instead of Z key
Problem: I cannot find the selection
Solution:
if you are using options.txt then
try pressing the c key to find the selection
if you are using options2.txt then
try pressing the m key to find the selection
Problem: when I start up the program nothing shows on the main window
and I cannot draw any cells on the main window
Solution:
try resizing the main window
Problem: the program is not responding to the keys
Solution:
make sure the main window is activated
you can activate the main window by clicking on it
Problem: I click ok or cancel on file dialog box and now the program
won't respond to the keys
Solution:
try clicking on the color box or any other window then
try clicking on the main window
Problem: the program is ignoring one of the keywords in the options.txt file
Solution:
make sure there are no spaces at beginning of the keyword or
between the keyword and a comma
Problem: the ctrl-D and ctrl-F keys don't work the selection won't rotate
Solution:
that's a bug in some old version of the program.
To fix try editing options.txt and try removing these 2 lines
rotatec_ctrl_key,D
rotatecc_ctrl_key,F
Question: the n key skips ahead 10 generations how do I go 1 generation at a time?
Solution:
it does that in some versions of the program
try using the space bar and make sure you are in pan mode and
the main window is activated
pan mode can be turn on and off using the p key
Problem: one of the toolbar images is missing
Solution:
try going the toolbar directory and renaming the file "filledcircle.PNG"
to "filledcircle.png"
Question: I just download the program, how do you run it?
