Although hit and on fire, this B17 still manages to stay in formation and drop it's bombs. Allied aircrews often pressed home their attacks under heavy fire and consequently suffered heavy casualties.

A Goumier sharpens his knife. These fiercesome troops were much used in the savage mountain fighting in Italy, they often used such knives cut off the ears or heads of their enemies as trophies.
