Republic P47 'Thunderbolt'

Used in most theaters of WWII this 'monster' was huge by normal fighter standards! It was a very powerful fighter and equipped with drop tanks was a respectable bomber escort. But the P47 really came into its own in Europe as a ground attack plane armed with rockets and bombs. It could absorb enormous amounts of punishment from ground fire etc, and still keep flying. This one is in Pacific campaign markings and has the early 'flat' plexiglass canopy, later models being equipped with a rounded 'bubble' canopy to increase pilot vision.
