Lonesome Road was written by Nathaniel Shilkret and Gene Austin for the 1929 screen version of Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II's Show Boat. It was later popularised in the Frank Sinatra album A Swingin' Affair (1957).
Look down - look down
That lonesome road
Before you travel on

Look up - look up
And seek your maker
Before (Mr.) Gabriel blows his horn

Your charms have broken many a heart and mine is surely one
You got a way of tearing a world apart, love, see what you done
Just as sure as we're living, just as sure as you're born
Look up, look up - seek your Maker - 'fore Gabriel blows his horn
