A T R I B U T E T O L O R D B A T H 1st of May, 2008 The Bears have announced that they are currently in the process of writing a song in honour of Alexander Thynn, Marquess of Bath. The Marquess, who will be seventy six this Thursday, is known as a highly-educated (Eton and Oxford) aristocrat and eccentric patron of the arts. "Growing up in Wiltshire," said Chrys J. Fear, "the Marquess has played a part in the lives of both Matthew James and me. He has always been something of a hero of mine in particular, ever since my mother first told me about his unconventional and bohæmian lifestyle during one of our regular trips to Longleat." Lord Bath, who lives in a beautiful Elizabethan mansion at Longleat, between Warminster and Frome, is not known only for his colourful dress and striking visual artworks. He has also lived a 'polyamorous' lifestyle with several 'wifelets' and has also been politically active. "Lord Bath is deeply interested in the history and identity of our region, Wessex, and also took his rightful place in the House of Lords until that right was taken from him by a deluded, power-crazy Labour government. This song is partly a show of support for Lord Bath in regard to those affairs, and partly a simple song about a creative genius whose true contribution to the arts, and to Wessex as a whole, is all too often overlooked." The Bears intend to complete the song and perform it for the first time in front of the Marquess. And what if he doesn't like it? "If Lord Bath doesn't like it," answers Matthew James Paish, "then we shall forget it and never play it again. I am sure however that he will love it."
