| "This song's about Heroin" - Chrys J Fear, Children In Need 2003. | |||||||||||
| A definate fan-favourite, Golden Brown is statistically the most played Bear cover. Although retaining the essence of the original Stranglers hit, The Bears have adopted this ballad and tarnished it with their own sound. Played publicly many times, The Bears have said in interviews that they enjoy playing Golden Brown. The most memorable performance however was witnessed in The Bears debut performance for Children In Need. Having already taken a controversially offensive stance towards a fireman in the audience (due to his feelings on the Firefighters' strike of 2002), Chrys whispered into the microphone "This song's about heroin" before the audience consisting largely of school children. | |||||||||||
| Taken from an interview: "The inspiration for covering Golden Brown came from a Stranglers gig we went to last year. I think the song is very similar to some of our material in the sense that it has an uplifting, catchy melody, with dark lyrical undertones. We stripped the song down to its bare essentials, but still managed to conserve the two layers that make it what it is." |
