Even amongst the most elite of SOLDIER, Sephiroth is known as the best. Details about his past are locked away in a confidental file held by Shinra, Inc. His giant sword, Masamune, which is said that he can only handle, holds enormous destructive power.

Sephiroth, the ultimate weapon; was conceived by the Shinra Science Division as a part of Project: JENOVA. Cloud, back in his SOLDIER days once went on a mission with Sephiroth in his hometown, Nibelheim. At Nibelheim, Sephiroth discovers the old Shinra, Inc. files and reads about his past. In a fit of insanity, Sephiroth burns down Nibelheim and murders Cloud's mother along with most of the townsfolk.
