This is a mod that some of us have been playing with on are 91-96 GTO TT "not sure about the 97-99 wiring"
My car was running like a dog It was hesitating very badly on anything over 4000 revs well more like die till you took your foot of the throttle.
You could even just sit in the car and rev it with out moving and it wouldn't rev over 4000 revs it would just go up to 4000 revs and start to drop down then go up to 4000 revs again.
I have taken it to have new plugs put in and as well as new injectors, throttle body, inlet manifold, Speed sensor, almost every sensor was replaced on the car, as well as having the ECU tested and it was fine,
After having all that done the car was still the same.. And I was going to sell the car....
One night when I was coming home and the car just died going around a roundabout! I was stuck there and had to crawl around "not good" I got her home and I was mad ! I then started to take all the connectors off the car to see if I could find when was wrong with it. It was then I saw the rubber cover on a relay, I tried to take off the plug but I found that the relay made a crunching nose, I removed the rubber covering to find that the relay was smashed! It was damaged in a way that it wasn't on or off, so my car wasn't getting the fuel it needed and was just dieing.
I managed to fix this relay so it was working again, and my car was running great!
It then came to light that this relay only supplies the fuel pump with 8 volts at idle and 10volts at maximum power. Thanks to John M at www.3si.org bbs. he has also done a page about it here http://moojohn.com/fuelpump/
John then discovered how to bypass the relay so are pumps can get 12 volts all the time. After lots of testing on Johns car, he found that his car is not hesitating anymore and "in his own words" pulls like a freight train!
We have also got lots of people from 3SI to try this and in all occasions there car is running better with no hesitation!
This has been put down to be a must have mod to do on are cars and it only takes 5 mins to do! this is some feed back on the mod 3SI Members pak: Your right - it made more sense when I actually did the mod. My engine had been stumbling above 5000RPM in both first and second. That's history, now. Thanks 2root4u: I just did the mod. Can't say if the tiny difference I felt was all in my head, the weather conditions, or the actual mod. I do get some jerks of hesitation in the 5k+ RPMs which I felt less of tonight. All in all, I'll leave the mod in. 2root4u: I just did this mod last night. Then tonight I installed my supra fuel pump. I definitely notice the fuel pump sound now.
John m: The car is amazing! No more hesitation. 3rd gear pulls like a freight train. No missing at the top of 1st or 2nd gear. It's a night and day difference. Part-throttle operation is better too. This is just a step by step guide to make it easy for you to do this mod
Ok first you will need a few things. 1: A stanley knife 2: Some heavy-duty wire 3: Some Spade Connectors 4: Crimping tool or Some pliers 5: A Philips screwdriver
First you need to cut the wire to the length you need.
About 9.5cm long is good enough.
Now get your Stanley knife and carefully cut around the ends so you can pull the wire covering off the ends.
Then put your Spade connectors on the ends and crimp them on
If you don't have a crimping tool you can use some pliers to crimp them on.
