Rodington Foot Bridge

Rodington Foot Bridge

The Foot Bridge gives access over the River Roden to Rodington Village. The left picture gives so much information about the Rodington Foot Bridge and the area around it.  Firstly, the area around the Foot Bridge looks very tidy, thanks to the conscientious and hard working resident. The hedges and shrubs are well kept and low enough to see this part of the village quite well as a visitor passes over the bridge.

The quaint little building in the middle of the left picture is Riverside Cottage which was only knocked down in 1958. Riverside Cottage is dwarfed by the grand looking Parish Church. On the left of the Foot Bridge is the Rodington School where Robert Madeley, his siblings and their friends learnt their  lessons.

The iron girder bridge in the picture shows original ironworks supplied by the Coalbrookdale Company from the Horsehay works. The bridge was inspected by Thomas Telford in 1833 and it was passed as fit for purpose. Later, after 50 years use it was rebuilt.

Today the Foot Bridge looks very different.

After Riverside Cottage was demolished a house was built called Riverside Bungalow. It can just be seen here behind the other new house. In this picture the trees and shrubs have not been trimmed and the Parish Church is now well hidden. A plaque on the bridge brickwork has some information about the bridge. The iron girder work has been replaced by railings.

The bridge does not have listed protection.
