Summary: Als Sindbad mit seiner Mannschaft zu der Geburtstagsfeier eines Bekannten, den Herrscher von Ascor, anreist, begegnet er auch seinem Freund Thoas wieder. Doch auf seiner Feier werden beide nicht von Batis, dem Herrscher, wieder erkannt. Und der Führer der Armee gibt Sindbad zu verstehen, dass er nicht erwünscht sei. Schnell finden sie heraus, dass ihr Freund Batis unter einen Bann steht und versuchen gegen diese schwarze Magie anzukämpfen. Dabei kommen sich Thoas und Bryn näher.

After 3 days traveling the ship of the crew lay on the habour of Ascor. There, they wanted to barter some goods, but the most important reason why Sinbad came to Ascor was another. In former times, when Sinbad sailed with the adventurers, they often came to this place, because the prince of Ascor was a very good friend of them. It was a very long time ago that Sinbad saw the prince Batis for the last time. Now Batis became 60 year old and Sinbad didn't wanted to miss this celebration. It should be in the evening but they had reached Ascor on the early midday and now they had a lot of time to enjoy. After they unloaded the goods, the crew wanted to go to the market.

“Go on ahead, little brother,” Doubar said. “Rongar and I can see for the cargo load. We will follow you later.”

“Oh no Doubar! Firouz and I will help you of course. When we finished working we will go together. What are you waiting for? Come on guys! The faster we work, the sooner we can relax. Let´s go!”

While the boys were busy Bryn stood away from them. Suddenly she felt a threatening feeling, without knowing what it was and where it came from. Taim was in her near and she realized that something was wrong with Bryn and asked:  “Is everything alright?”

“I don´t no exactly, but suddenly I felt a dark power. Now it seems to be disappearing again.”

There was something Taim wanted to know and she asked: “Why do you have such power?”

“I don´t know. I can´t remember anything from my past.”

“Not even who you are?”

“I just remember my name. And I knew that there was a storm. I woke up on a strange island where I met Sinbad for the first time. He saved my life. I just wish that I´ll remember one day what really happened.”

“After a kind of storm I woke up in a strange country, too,” she said painfully. “I can remember everything!"

Later the crew walked trough the town. Especially Sinbad enjoyed it until they saw a group of bandits threatening some trader and destroying some goods. Sinbad got very angry when he saw this and he wanted to stop them. Together with Rongar and Doubar he walked to them and warned: “ It´s better for you when you let it be. Otherwise I have to teach you a lesson."

The boys drew their attention to Sinbad and the leader came very close and said: “Listen to this loudmouth, boys! You think you´re very strong, don´t you youth? I break your bones. You gonna be a cripple!”

The bandits attacked the crew and while the leader try to attack him, Sinbad made jokes on him and he got very angry. The crew overpowered the bandits and finally the guards arrested them. Suddenly somebody attacked Sinbad again. He tore off the person and turned around. He recognised it was his old friend Thoas. When they were boys and sailed with the adventurers, they were very good friends.

“Are you here because of the birthday of Batis?” Sinbad asked.

“I am. And I supposed you to. Who are the guys?”

“That´s my crew.”

“I´ve heard a lot about you and your crew. But where did you met these two beautiful ladies?”

He walked to Bryn, took her hand and kissed her. Bryn was very amazed by him and he was impressed by her beauty. Then he walked to Taim and wanted to greet her, but she showed him that it was better not to come closer to her.  Sinbad and Thoas had a lot to talk about. They went in an inn. Especially Bryn was very interested in the stories the boys had to tell. But Taim wanted to be alone.

“Sinbad, you know I don´t like inns. I just wanna go around. I´ll come back soon.”

She turned around and walked away.

“Where is Dermott?” Firouz asked Bryn.

“He has gone with Taim. He can´t take his eyes off her.”

They crew stayed 2 hours in the inn, then they went to the palace of prince Batis. It was a very big celebration and the crew had a lot of fun. Firouz and Doubar drank a lot of wine and watched some beautiful women dance. Rongar and Taim shared some fighting tricks and counted their knives. Rongar was really impressed by some skids you could strap onto you arms so that you could defend yourself against a sword just with your arms. And when Sinbad looked for Batis, Bryn and Thoas where alone. They did not know what to say so Bryn watched some people dancing.

“I can´t remeber that I have ever danced,” she said, remembering that she didn´t knew anything.

“I have also never danced. Let´s try it!” Thoas took her hand and they danced to a wild and funny music. When they were a little bit exhausted they went on the terrace and talked.

“You are not like the other women I met. Why do you belong to a group of adventurers?”

“I can´t tell you why. Sinbad saved my life. Maybe it was destiny.”

“What about you family?” Thoas wanted to know.

“I can´t remember my past.”

“That hurt you. I feel it. Sinbad told me that you have magical power. You must be someone very special, thats for sure. And not only because of you power. You are very wonderful.”

There was a short silence, and then they started to kiss.

Sinbad looked for Batis, but he couldn´t find him. Suddenly, somebody started to talk to him.

“Excuse me, what are you looking for? Can I help you?”

“My name is Sinbad. I´m looking for the prince of Ascor. I´m a friend of Batis. And who are you?”

“My name is Karer. I am the right hand of the prince. So if you want to tell him something, you can tell me too. He is very busy. I don´t think that he will have some time for you. Not even for a friend called Sinbad. When I remember you I will tell him that you were here. Have a nice evening!”

Karer walked away and Sinbad was a little bit shocked by the friendly welcome. Then the high spot of the celebration began and Sinbad saw Batis.

“Good evening! I want to thank all of you that you are here tonight. I know it is my birthday today. But to me this celebration has another meaning. All of you know my friend Karer. I know, he is here in Ascor since a few weeks. But I gave him all my trust. And all the people in Ascor are supposed to do the same. I just wana tell you, that everything he´ll do, is with my permission. So I gave him, the power to do everything he want to do. His instructions, are my instructions. That´s all I have to say.”

Batis finished his speech and Sinbad was really disappointed of what he has heard. He went to Batis and the crew followed him.
“Batis! It´s me, Sinbad.” But Batis seemed not to remember who Sinbad was.

“Tell me boy why I should know you!”

“I´m the sailor. When I was younger I was one of the adventurers.”

After a long silence Batis said:  “Oh yes. Now I remember. You became a very strong man, Sinbad. But now I have to go. It was very nice to see you again.” Then he walked away. Sinbad was very disappointed. He couldn´t believe that Batis has changed so much.

“I can´t believe that this is really Batis!” Thoas said. “I met him a few weeks ago and he seemed to be so happy and friendly. We even talked about you Sinbad, and he could remember you very well.”

“That´s not Batis! Something is very wrong. And I don´t like this Karer. It seems that he put Batis under a spell.”

“You are right Sinbad!” Bryn said. “I felt a dark power.  He is cursed.”

“What about his necklace?” Taim asked.

“What do you mean?”

“It looks strange. I´m not sure, but I think it´s a magic chain that puts him under a spell. To take it from his neck you´ll need a special key.” Sinbad was estonished and look at her. “Please. Don´t ask why I know this!”

Sinbad noded. Then he said to the crew: “We will free Batis from his curse. But now it is better we go and think about how to solve this problem. Come on!”

Later the crew sat together, and tried to find a way to free Batis from black magic.

“I am sure Karer is the one who curse him,” Sinbad said angree. But Bryn answered:  “He is bad, but he has no magic.  Maybe he has something to do with this curse, but he has not spoken it.”

Sinbad shook his head and waited. Then he saw to Taim, because she was very quiet. Dermott sat next to her. In her hand she hold a glove which Bryn gave her when they left the island Basip where Jelvor lived. Maeve used to wear this glove when Dermot sat on her arm. Sinbad knew that something was wrong.

“Taim, what else do you know?”

“I know as good as nothing!” She breathed in very deep. “It´s possble that Karer is in touch with dark creatures. They gave him the necklace, but the one who spoke the curse kept the key.”

“Are you sure, Taim?” Doubar asked. Suddenly she shout at him: “No I´m not.” Then she turned away and felt sorry that she said this to Doubar.

“That´s not possible,” Thoas said. “Here in Ascor has never been such dark creatures.”

“Wait!” Sinbad interrupted him. “Do you remember the stories the people told us about the hill behind the devils gorge? They told us that men never returned from there. It´s the hill of evil. Maybe we can find there the creatures Taim spoke about. Let´s go. We can´t wait any longer. Taim had to talk to Sinbad just for a minute.

“Sinbad, I can´t come with you.”

“Why?”

“I´m not allowed to go and fight against these creatures. Let me stay here. Karer could search for you with his guards and then I have to warn you. Dermott flys with you so that I know where you are. When there´s trouble, I´ll come.”

He consent to this but he wasn´t happy about. Then he went with the others away.

After they walked  a long time they reached a hill. The sky was dark and Bryn felt suddenly very cold.

“That is the feeling I had when we stood at the habour. This place keeps darkness and secrets.”

But the crew had to go further along. Firouz said: “There must be a hole in this hill. It´s a cave on the top. We have to walk through this valley to go there,” and so the crew hurried.

Taim was waiting for the return of  Dermott. She was sitting on a place where she had a perfekt view on the dors of the palace. When dermott landed next to her, she told him that everything was all right. But suddenly she saw Karer and his  guards walking out of the doors and he said:

“Go and find this man and his stupid crew. And if it´s necessary, kill them!”

Taim knew that she had to warn Sinbad. Dermott showed her the way and she hoped to find them before Karer´s guards would find them.

The crew reached the hill. It was very quiet there. Too quiet. “Something is going on,” Bryn said. And suddenly the silence was broken and the sky was full of  harpies.

For  a moment Sinbad couldn´t breath. But he knew that they had to handle very fast. “Bryn, you and Firouz will go in the cave and searching for the key. We´ll try to turn them away from you. Go, and don´t forget to use your magic against these beasts. The men fighted very hard while Firouz and Bryn tried to find the key to the necklace. The cave was very big and dark and they had problems to find it. It was like a labyrinth and that they could find the way back, Firouz scattered black powder on the way. In this cave they saw bones of animals, bones of human, and many juwelleries. After they searched a few minutes, they found a key. Bryn was sure that it was the right key.

“Bryn, hurry up! We have to go now.”  Firouz fired the powder and they run out. Suddenly Bryn was stoped by an harpy which tried to attacked her. Firouz kept going on to find the way out of the cave. Bryn concentrated and send a flash to the creature, but Bryn had to send a second flash to stop her. Then she followed Firouz´ calls.

When they find the way out, the boys where still fighting withe the munsters and they became more and more. Bryn and Firouz ran down the hill, but some harpies followed them. Bryn send two flashs to defent them, but without much succes. They where to many and Bryn became more weak with any flash. Even Sinbad was exhausted and the only way to stay alive was to run into the forest. The harpys followed them and they ran as fast as possible. Suddenly Taim came. She was exhausted too and felt into the arms of Sinbad.

“What´s a matter?” he asked.

“Karer sends his guards to kill you. They are 20 to 25 men. They have to be here in a few minutes. But why are you running away?”

In this moment the harpies came closer and Sinbad said: “I don´t think I have to explain it. Let´s run!” But then they stood in front of the guards from Karer. One of the men gave a sign to attack the crew. In this moment the harpies came and a fight between the guards and the creatures began. The crew took the chance and run away but still some guards followed them. Sinbad, Bryn and Thoas ran into the palace and the others fight with the guards. Sinbad searched for Batis while Thoas and Bryn where attacked by guards again. The reat of the crew reached the palace.

“Where´s Sinbad?” Doubar asked.

“He´s looking for Batis.”

Suddenly Karer came with some more guards. The crew tried to defend themselves but the guards wre very strong and Karer shouted: “Men, kill them!”

“Just a moment please,” Sinbad interrupted him. “You are not allowed to attack my crew!”

“You are not authorized to forbat that, sailor.”

“But I am,” a voice called from the back. It was Batis. Karer was very suprised. “How is this possible?”

Sinbad showed him the necklace.

“Do you know this, Karer?”

Now Batis came closer. “You have no power over me any longer, traitor! Guards, put him under arrest.”

But Karer pulled Bryn to himself and threaten her with his sword. She was too exhausted to do magic, so Thoas decided to save her. He attacked Karer from behind so that he pushed Bryn away and defended himself. Karer hurt Thoas on his arm but he lost the fight and Batis´ guards arrested him.

The next day Batis joined the crew to the harbour.

“Sinbad, I have to thank you a lot. Adventurers were always my best friends. Goodbye Sinbad.”

The crew went on board the ship. But Bryn waited.

“Bryn, why don´t you stay with me?” Thoas asked her.

“I can´t Thoas. I´m sure you understand that I have to find my past. I really need to know who I am.”

They were interruped by Doubar who called Bryn. Without saying anything she kissed Thoas and went on board. Then they continued their journey.
