    Edith Nawakwi, the Minister of Finance, is the first female Zambian to hold the post and she is the youngest. At 38, she has shown brilliance in rescuing the sale of copper mines. Negotiations with several buyers had broken down but Nawakwi managed to revive them when she took over the Ministry of Finance from Ronald Penza Nawakwi who holds a Masters degree in energy, economics and environment from the University of London Imperial College, was virtually unknown until the 1991 campaign for the Movement of Multiparty Democracy. After the elections, Nawakwi was appointed deputy minister of energy and water development and later promoted to full cabinet level. In 1996, she was appointed as Minister of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries before she was made Finance minister. She is single.
