"On this show, they're very important," Ellin
said. "The characters have their toys, and agents have power plays. And we
spend a lot of time figuring out which car for which person and how to
differentiate." 1965 Lincoln Continental convertible from the opening title
credits "That car is actually Johnny Drama's car," said Davis. It's
the vehicle his character drove during high school. Look for it in episode 3.18.
"We really wanted to show that Eric stuck with what he came from. And then
he was living in this multimillion-dollar house; he still kept his car."
The Maserati, Ellin said, "was a real step up."
Enter Lloyd's tuner car. "It instantaneously told you
something about him that you didn't expect," said series creator Doug Ellin.
"[Terrance] was the founder of the talent agency," Entourage
transportation coordinator Mike Davis said. "He is the big guy, he's been
around forever. So he definitely has all the money. That's a $180,000 to
$190,000 car. That's his price range for his position."
2007 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG. "We got that car before it even got out in the
marketplace," Davis said. "We had the only one in the United
States."
Real meets the unreal
By Cindy Pearlman, The New York Times Syndicate 6/8/06
In the new season, rumor has it Ari starts his own agency,
only to be fired by his best client, Vince, who is now starring in James
Cameron's new blockbuster, "Aquaman." Checking in by cellphone from
the streets of New York on an off day, Piven confirms the rumors, at least to
some extent.
"Vince does fire Ari, but you can't count me - I mean,
Ari - out. He's like the phoenix. He will always rise." The new season
begins with the premiere of the big-budget "Aquaman," starring Vincent
Chase and, as herself, Mandy Moore. Cameron also plays himself, as the director
of the fictional film version of the DC comic. The film has become such a joke
in real-life Hollywood that at the superagency CAA, some staff meetings
reportedly start with one of the agents saying, "So what's the status of 'Aquaman?"'
"People do think this is a real film. The funny thing is
that we shot the 'Aquaman' premiere at a real theater in Westwood. There was
Vinnie Chase on the red carpet, plus Mandy Moore. James Cameron was there. The
hilarious thing is, we had real people and paparazzi stopping by and yelling,
'What's going on?' I'd yell back, 'It's a new movie starring Vincent Chase and
Mandy Moore. The paparazzi would get all upset, thinking they were missing a
real-life event. They didn't even question that Vincent Chase isn't even a real
actor in Hollywood. I wanted to say, 'It's a movie for a series, you
knuckleheads!"
"Entourage" probably rates as Hollywood's favorite
series, with Cameron and Moore only the tip of the iceberg where celebrity guest
shots are concerned. "This year we have people like James Woods playing
himself," Piven says. "We have Beverly D'Angelo back as a
tough-as-nails agent. We already had Gary Busey butting heads with our character
of Turtle. It's amazing, because everyone wants to be on the show now, playing
themselves. What's really crazy is that, one night after he won the Academy
Award for 'Crash' (2005), (writer/director) Paul Haggis was on the 'Entourage'
set playing himself and having the best time. The guy won the Oscar for best
picture, and now he wants to hang out with us."
Originally the series was based on the real-life world of
executive producer Mark Wahlberg and his entourage, though the story lines soon
diverged into untrodden ground. Wahlberg and Piven are friends, which led to the
latter's being cast as Ari.
"I loved the project from the start because of the
authenticity of these guys. It was based on this group that hangs out with
Wahlberg. I've seen these guys, and what I loved about them and the series is
the friendship. They also navigate in Hollywood. It's a world that's tough,
unforgiving and fickle. I love fictionalizing that world, but not adding too
much fiction. We put the real Hollywood up on the screen during this show."
He also loves Ari, whom he calls "a type-A wrecking ball
who is at the top of his game. One of my favorite moments of the new season is
when Turtle and Drama have a meeting with me because now even the guys in the
entourage think they should have a top agent. It's also a funny twist, because
this New York street kid named Turtle somehow lucks into representing a top
rapper named Saigon. So he's also gone from nothing to being a Hollywood player.
I've seen it happen again and again."

Just wild about Ari
Killian Fox | The Observer 12/31/06
He's a ruthless Hollywood agent and the best thing about ITV2's cult series Entourage, but Jeremy Piven was a jobbing actor before he morphed into Ari Gold. He took home an Emmy last August and is up for a Golden Globe next month. Now he's starring in a movie as a sleazy Vegas magician with a price on his head in Smokin' Aces, released on 12 Jan.
You're getting bigger film roles now thanks to Entourage, but are you worried
about being Ari Gold for life?
Some people think I am Ari Gold, and that this soft-spoken guy from Chicago is
just an act. I can't complain, though - Ari is an embarrassment of riches. We're
shooting season four now and I feel like a fighter who's still waiting to throw
his right. I want to get into Ari's family life and find out why there are
people like him.
Have you come across many Aris during your time in Hollywood?
My character is based on one particular person and I have to work hard to infuse as much humanity into this guy as I can. There are some incredibly grisly characters out there. An agent like Ari would never have had the patience for an actor like me a few years back. They're heat-seekers, and I've been auditioning to play the acerbic best friend for the last 17 decades.
So, an Emmy at 41 and being nominated for a Golden Globe must feel satisfying.
When I was younger, the holy grail was to play in the big theatres in Chicago, so this is a completely different world. And now I've got my third nomination for a Golden Globe. I'll be taking my mother to the ceremonies again - I must be the first straight man ever to take his mother three times in a row.
Are you happy with Smokin' Aces
It feels really fresh to me. It has an intricate narrative, with hyper-violent homages to A Clockwork Orange mixed up with some very serious, tragic moments.
What else is in the pipeline?
I've just finished The Kingdom, with Jamie Foxx and Chris Cooper about a terrorist attack in Saudi Arabia. I play a man from the US state department, with grey hair and glasses and a bad suit. It took a role about the backstage life of Hollywood to finally get Hollywood's attention. It's something I'm very grateful for.

These are funny parodies of Entourage scenes that were only available on HBO In Demand. The first 3 showed up after episode 14 aired. Number 4 was added after #17 aired. First they showed the original scene, then they showed it again by having famous TV actors from the 70s play the same scene. The end punch line is to see Entourage the way it's meant to be seen on Sunday nights. I think only #1 is truly a deleted scene. It's funny to see these old "clean cut" actors cursing like crazy, especially the old women.
1 - Screen Test - Drama says for 2 years they sponged off him and took
his fallout from Melrose place. Vince says they'll need them all there and a dog
to protect them in case someone breaks in.
It replays with Ellen Albertini Dow as Turtle, Estelle Harris as Eric, Renee
Taylor as Drama and Zelda Rubenstein as Vince.
2 - Drama asks Turtle is he's ever jerked off with a belt around his
neck. He asks if he should. Turtle see and add for Scandinavian twins to come
over and have sex with them for $1500. Drama says no, he doesn't pay for sex.
Turtle doesn't believe him and brings up an example that Drama says is
different.
It replays with Pat Morita as Drama and Gary Coleman as Turtle.
3 - Vince says he hasn't been on a real date since high school. Turtle
and Drama say it's LA, everything happens in the middle of the night. Turtle
says he picks them off the internet. Vince want to get dates for the premiere.
Eric doesn't want that. They want to look out for him, it'll be fun, like the
prom. Turtle won't have a date then, he says she had food poisoning.
It replays with Jimmy JJ Walker as Turtle, Pat Harrington as Drama, Erik Estrada
as Eric and Richard Kline as Vince.
4 - The guys are in a liquor store telling Vince he
should score with the virgin Justine Chapin, because it'll be great press. The
rest talk about their first lays. Everyone tells except for Vince who says he
doesn't remember and Eric doesn't believe him - everyone remembers their first.
It replays with Wrestlers - Diamond Dallas Page (Eric), Jake the Snake Roberts
(Turtle), Jimmy Superfly Snuka (Vince) & Nikolai Volkoff (Drama) - The
wrestlers seem way too old and scary except for Dallas.
Theme Song: Jane's Addiction - SuperHero
Yeah (5x)
You were smiling by my table
Had to call up everyone that day
A beautiful mind and body
What a happy ending I see
My mind had been enabled
In a memory you overflowed
Want to be your superhero
Even if I tumble fall
I'm ok
You have that effect on me
But I need you desperately
You know I need you desperately
Brick or stone cannot hurt me
Madmen around the city go
They attack I'll bring them down
Making their chances super low
Oh my my, pretty naval
Dimple cheek, a face I adore
Want to be your superhero
Fallin' from a running horse
I'm ok verse
I oh, I
Hold to that elusion
I, oh I
I'm not your average guy
Other guys they won't dare to
Join the line in order you peck
When they introduced me to you
My face had turned to super red
Your steady beck and call boy
Playin' on the piano
Want to be your superhero
Not afraid to tumble fall
I'm ok
You have that effect on me
But I need you desperately
You know I need you desperately
Want to be your superhero
Yeah I want to be your superhero
I want to be your superhero
Oh I want to be your superhero
Oh yeah (3x)

The show's 20 episode season 3 has been broken into 12 and 8 episodes. Originally it was set to air the 8 episodes in January along with The Sopranos to promote the show to more of an audience. But they have been pushed back to March and should air then and then Season 4 will start only 3 months later.

Moviemaker Robert Evans is reportedly furious over a new character in TV hit Entourage, which appears to parody him. The Cotton Club producer was approached by US cable network HBO earlier this year to make a cameo in the comedy show, but he refused, although he did give permission for the cast and crew to use his home. In this month's episodes of the show however, Martin Landau plays a "washed-up" filmmaker named Bob Ryan, which insiders claim is based on Evans. A source tells the New York Daily News, "They named the character Bob and made him an old, loopy producer. They even used Evans' own house in the show." However, a HBO representative insists, "Bob Ryan was not based on Robert Evans."
8/28/06
Doug Ellin says, "They'll try to find a way to put Jeremy in the show unless he gets a movie role. Carla Gugino will play Vince's new agent."

The blitz has begun. They are advertising Entourage's new season on nearly every TV channel and radio show. I can't wait for the season to start just so the endless commercials will go away!

Malcolm has filmed 2 episodes for the third season.
3/7/06
The Complete 2nd Season will be released June 6th with a 3-DVD set containing all 14 half-hour episodes.

Chris Albrecht, president and CEO of HBO, announced the pickup Friday (July 15) during HBO's session at the TV Critics Association press tour. He says the deal was completed only a day or so before that, so he couldn't offer a lot of details. He does say, however, that the pay-cable network will aim for "as many episodes as we can get" from the deal, with 13 probably being the minimum. The show is running for 14 episodes this summer, following an eight-episode first season. "We'll see if (creator) Doug Ellin will hire some more writers," Albrecht says jokingly.
7/14/05
Jeremy Piven has earned a 2005 Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series. Entourage was also nominated for two other Emmy Awards; Outstanding Casting For A Comedy Series and Outstanding Directing For A Comedy Series.
5/12/05
Malcolm will appear in the last 5 or 6 episodes as Ari's boss and loves the show.
In second season, HBO expands its 'Entourage'
The Entourage is back on the prowl.
USA Today 5/6/05
HBO's comic saga of a movie star and his posse returns for an expanded second
season of 14 episodes June 5 (9 p.m. ET/PT). But all is not well with the
high-living Vince Chase (Adrian Grenier), modeled loosely on series producer
Mark Wahlberg. After a three-month movie shoot, Chase's career has "cooled
off," warns agent Ari (Jeremy Piven), who tries to coerce his client into
accepting an offer for Aquaman. ("It's Spider-Man, under water.")
Creator Doug Ellin says Entourage's world will expand this season, as the guys
sit courtside at a Lakers game, hit a U2 concert and head to Sundance. "We
just decided when we look at Mark's life and the scope of it, we should expand
ours, as well."
Along with frequent guest stars, Malcolm McDowell will play the agent's
boss, Debi Mazar becomes a series regular as Chase's high-strung publicist, and
Mandy Moore has a recurring role as herself.
MM's first episode is Season 2, number 18.
Season 2 premiere party was in LA 5/25/05 with the cast in attendance, MM wasn't there.
Season 2 premiered Sunday, June 5, 2005 at 9PM ET, only on HBO.
Episodes average around 25 mins, there are no commercials.
Three commercials for S2 were released - Shoot Promo, New Season & The Shark is Back, but none feature MM.
Episode 09 ended with an "in memory of", but it is missing on the VOD version.
A bunch of Season 2 episode names were changed - The Boys are Back in Town (formerly The System), My Maserati Does 185 (formerly The New Car), An Offer Refused (formerly The Offer), Chinatown (formerly Fight Night), Oh, Mandy (formerly The List), I Love You Too (formerly Pornicon)

"Been doing nothing but work, seven days a week since last August. There's definitely some fatigue, but it's good, and it's a fun show to do." Of the new season "there will be nothing radically different. The shows are getting bigger, and we're trying to get to some more locations. We go to Las Vegas [later] this year.... New York? I pray to go there. I'd like to do the whole fourth season in New York. Would love to .. it would probably be hard. HBO really doesn't worry about our numbers partly because a show like ours is viewed over and over again by our younger audience - they'll watch on demand 10 or 15 times. But me? Sure. I'd like to creep up and get as close to 'The Sopranos' as we can get. That's the goal." Doug Ellin 6/06
“I don’t want it to end. Everyone there wants to be there. There’s such an energy on the set, it’s addicting. The way Eric and Sloan’s relationship is left by season’s end is “very promising.”- Emmanuelle Chiriqui 8/25/05
The New York Times
By David Hochman 8/16/05
"I can tell something clicked because people are constantly e-mailing and
calling and saying they want to do the show," said Doug Ellin, the show's
creator and head writer. "But it wasn't like we consciously went out and
said, 'This is gonna be our big year.' "
"We didn't truly know the show or these characters last year," said
Rob Weiss, a co-producer and original writers. "Hollywood success is a
seesaw ride," Mr. Weiss said in an interview, "and it takes a while to
figure out where you're going, which was true for our characters, too."
"The show has always been about the shallow
moment-by-moment existence of life in the business," Mr. Ellin said,
whether that entails deciding which plasma screen to buy or supermodel to date.
"But we keep discovering subtleties, like, in Hollywood, even a guy who
makes $5 million is constantly insecure and struggling."
"We keep pushing these guys into situations and
opportunities they'd really be in if they were living this life," Mr. Weiss
said.
"I was at a party in the Hamptons this weekend with some
buddies I grew up with," said Mr. Connolly, an actor who had always been
the lesser light among his close friends Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire.
"All of a sudden, they part the way for us to get in and it's, like, 'What
can we do for you?' So, yeah, I guess the show is definitely registering."

Vince Chase is a sexy young actor whose career is on the rise. To share the
fun of the ride and keep him grounded, Vince looks to Eric, Drama and Turtle,
his childhood buddies from Queens. Together, they'll navigate the highs and lows
of Hollywood's fast lane, where the stakes are higher, and the money and
temptations greater, than ever before.
From executive producer Mark Wahlberg and creator Doug Ellin,
the new eight-episode comedy series Entourage kicks off Sunday, July 18, 2004
(10:00-10:30 pm ET), exclusively on HBO, followed by other episodes on
subsequent Sundays at the same time, immediately following new episodes of
"Six Feet Under." Wahlberg makes a cameo appearance in the first
episode of the show, and in future episodes, other celebrities lend their
insider experiences via cameos.
Adrian Grenier ("Drive Me Crazy," "Hart's
War") stars as Vince, an actor on the verge of stardom. Kevin Connolly
("Antwone Fisher," "John Q") plays Eric, Vince's closest
confidant who's learning the rules of the business as he tries to help Vince
make the right choices and keep his trajectory aimed high. Kevin Dillon
("The Doors," "Platoon") plays Vince's half-brother Drama,
whose own acting aspirations have been eclipsed by Vince's success. Jerry
Ferrara ("Grounded for Life," "Leap of Faith") plays Turtle,
the least experienced of the group, who's always up for a good time. Jeremy
Piven ("Old School," "The Larry Sanders Show") plays Ari,
Vince's aggressive, high-powered agent, who clashes with Eric over his client's
decisions.
Also appearing in Entourage are Debi Mazar ("Goodfellas,"
"The Tuxedo") as Vince's publicist Shauna, Samaire Armstrong
("The O.C.") as Ari's assistant Emily, and Monica Keena
("Undeclared") as Eric's ex-girlfriend Kristen. In addition to Mark
Wahlberg, cameo appearances in Entourage include Jessica Alba, Gary Busey, David
Faustino, Sara Foster, Jimmy Kimmel and Sarah Silverman.
Filmed on location in Los Angeles, Entourage is created by
Doug Ellin ("Kissing a Fool," "Life with Bonnie"), who also
writes for the series. Other writers include Larry Charles (HBO's "Curb
Your Enthusiasm," "Seinfeld"), Stephen Levinson and Rob Weiss.
Among the directors are Dan Attias (HBO's "The Sopranos"), Adam
Bernstein ("Scrubs," HBO's "Oz"), Julian Farino (HBO's
"Sex and the City") and David Frankel (HBO's "Band of
Brothers" and "Sex and the City").
Episode 01
Going in I had no expectations on the show because before I knew Malcolm was involved I hadn't heard of it. The good thing is it is a short, 25 minutes each, and was only for one season, eight short episodes. It is easy to catch up, you can watch the whole season in around three and a half hours. The first problem is we are thrown right into the show with no background. I think it should've started with Vince hitting big and them moving out to LA instead of them just being there and only later do we learn bits and pieces of their histories. Vince is an up and coming hot young actor from Queens NY who moved to LA with his brother, an actor who is washed up and is the house cook and his two best friends. Eric acts as his manager and script reader and Turtle is a mooch who is a driver and gopher for Vince. That's where the title comes in. Vince is the star and the rest are his entourage. They all live in Vince's big house except for Eric who moved out back in the guesthouse. The other main character is Vince's agent Ari, the shark. He is the pure high pressure Hollywood type, the opposite of laid back Vince who's just looking to score, party and not have to make decisions. It's hard for any first episode to be really good because you have to learn about the characters and the situation, but it was certainly better than I expected. I thought there would be nothing there, but the story moves along at a rapid place, especially without commercials. It isn't a sit-com as much as it is a buddy show. It's really about the four guys. It's a drama that isn't played for laughs, it's just "real life" that's funny. Since it isn't forced and there is no laugh track the humor is natural. The funniest parts are when they goof on each other like guys will do. Also the rooftop golf scene was great with the guys trying to hit stars houses. I think Eric is the one most people will relate to, while Vince is the one everyone wishes they were. Johnny is good as the has been actor whose trying to get back into the game. Other funny scenes are the paparazzi not knowing who Johnny is, the dog attacking Turtle, the Eric vs. Ari discussions where they trash and curse each other out so easily, the joke about Eric's ex with Vince Vaughan and the I love Cock gag at the end. The least likeable one is Turtle who is admittedly sponging off Vince's success. Cursing doesn't bother me at all, but there is a lot of it here. Those who are even the least offended would want to skip the show. I'm sure if you counted there would probably be 50-100 curses each show. An interesting not is the car scene is the intro is long gone, replaced by a gaudy yellow Hummer II - a status symbol.
Episode 02
The intro was funny with Drama saying all
these crazy female lines from his reverse acting class. Any guy hearing his
friend doing this would instantly mock him which he doesn't seem to get. It's also interesting to see how
different people react to the same reviews. Vince got paid, he doesn't care.
Ari's butt is on the line, so he flips out and Eric doesn't know what to think.
So now you have a feel for who these
guys are after being thrown into their world in the first episode. The fights between Eric and Ari are my favorite part of the
show, they really rip into each other again and again saying crazy things with
lots of cursing. I love how
Ari's is so two faced and tells Vince not to worry about the review and then
seconds later is furious with Eric about it.
The scene with the floating telephone in the pool is great
and how they throw it around not wanting to deal with the call. There is also
talk about moving, but that doesn't go anywhere for some reason not explained.
Maybe it's just to show how fleeting things are.
To make the show seem more like it is real life the first
celebrity to have a major role as themselves appears. She is Jessica Alba and
has a good scene with Ari trying to kiss her ass.. She also introduces Justine
to Vince who is
a less than subtle mockery of Britney Spears, a pop singer on a "Virginity Tour" that
nobody believes, though she insists she hasn't had sex. By the end Vince doesn't
want the car and gets a good review so now all of a sudden he is hot again.
Typical here today, gone later today philosophy of Hollywood. Without any good
press they move on to the next thing. Good stuff.
Episode 03
Jimmy Kimmel is playing himself and the funny
part of the episode is Drama's war with Kimmel. There is some good dialog from
the guys abusing Eric over Kristen too. One of the biggest laughs yet comes when
Drama asks Shauna to get him on a talk show and she mocks him about only being
able to get a gig as the retarded brother of a star. It's so funny since in real
life he's the brother to a more famous actor - Matt Dillon.
The whole thing about Vince having to prepare for the show is
weird. If he's only going to ask him about the movie, what's to know? Kristen
and Eric's sex scene really shows the pathetic and emptiness of their
relationship. They have sex so they can breakup? This only makes things more
screwed up and complicated for them.
Vince scores again which makes it for a funnier interview
when he admits they just had sex. The scene with Ari and Sara is great because
Sara thinks Ari is trying to score with her and Ari couldn't care less, business
is more important to him than sex. This shows how loony his work ethic is.
It's funny how Drama wanted nothing to do with Kimmel until
he asked him to come out and then acts like a total dork. The shameless
promotion to get the free sound system was great and it was even more tacky when
Drama put the hat on Jimmy's head.
Episode 04
Turtle gets funnier in this episode by
stealing from the mail and trying to get laid from the naked picture the woman
sent. Eric warns him, but he doesn't listen. Drama gets to be the butt of more
jokes by bringing home the female bodybuilder who overpowers him. It's great
when they guys goof on him for being with someone more muscular than he is and
that it's almost gay.
It's great how Vince can twist anything his way since he's
the star. He totally screws with Eric's head by inviting everyone along on his
date. Even better instead of talking about himself during the interview he talks
about Eric and his date, ripping on him some more. The scene with Drama stealing
the batteries was odd, it didn't go anywhere.
Ari has a great scene with the videoconferencing. By being
able to see Eric he knows what he's up to. I hope this plot device is used more
often in the series. Then it gets even worse for Eric when his ex hears about
his date on the radio. She's upset he is dating because they just had sex. He
can't believe it because she said it was break up sex. Obviously she's just
jealous and thankfully he blows her off.
The scenes with the crazy girl at the bowling alley were
funny as she is a typical Hollywood stalker. Everyone can see it except for
Turtle which is classic, because he still stupidly thinks he's getting laid.
This leads to a great scene where Turtle stand up through the roof of the limo
and gives people a hard time on line to get them to see Head On for Vince.
Once again Ari's evil genius stands out when he can figure
out where Eric is. Ari is definitely my favorite and the funniest character in
the season. He totally blows his wife off and tells her to get a cab. Like Alice
Kramden she stands up to him and shows that he's such a hardass at work, but
he's totally whipped at home.
The scene with Justine is such a great parody of how Britney
Spears was pretending to be. She wouldn't have sex, is an expert at oral. It is
a great twist when everyone suddenly loses their girls, even funnier is that
Vince gets another and abandons them. The ending is funny because Eric is trying
to hide his relationship with Emily while not flipping out that Ari wants
her.
Episode 05
Turtle is funny in the gym. He's the only one
not in shape, but he isn't working out. The scene with Josh standing naked in
front of Eric is great since no guy wants to see that. This is how we are
introduced to Josh, Ari's protégé who is sneakily trying to move up in the
world and take over for Ari. Turtle also shows how shameless he is and will do
anything to get laid including pimping out Vince's name to get gifts.
The episode really sexes it up with Fiona naked in the pool
and her tantric sex scene. This contrasts with all the guys wanting to get rid
of her because she is annoying. She thinks she can do Eric's job, she threw out
Turtle's weed and steak and hangs up weird pictures that Drama doesn't like.
Turtle tries to hit on Shauna's assistant and blows it again.
Then we get an inside look at celebrity freebies and product placement. Just
have your picture taken with an item and it's yours. Vince is changing though
because he blows it off to make his girlfriend happy. The guys are not used to
him ever getting serious.
We also get the first conflict between Eric and Vince over a
script. Eric knows Vince didn't read it and is only agreeing to do it because of
some girl's word, not his best friend since childhood. Basically he is just
jealous. Eric also gets a bonus by dating Emily when she fits him in to meet
with Ari. This leads to a great scene when Fiona gets mad and leaves and Ari and
Eric curse each other out for a while. Ari thinks Vince will be pissed at the
news and Eric shows him he's wrong.
Val Kilmer steals the episode as the crazy, stoned sherpa.
You don't even know it's him since he's so covered with hair and a beard. It
takes a minute to realize it's him. He's crazy with the armpit smelling scene au
natural and I loved when they pulled the guns because they hate cell phones.
Ari's no so subtle hint that Scott is gay is a great line.
The meeting is a great look into Hollywood not having a clue
when Scott says he can't see Vince in a role from Queens which is where he grew
up. Scott goes from totally hating Vince to loving him in a matter of a minute
which is a perfect glimpse at Hollywood hypocrisy. Then we also get to see how
easy it is for a celebrity to get out of trouble with the police. Great stuff.
In the end Fiona is gone and everyone is happy.
Episode 06
The whole board room scene with Vince seemed
like a big ass kiss. In the last episode Ari was flipping out that the box
office wasn't happening. Now $18.6 million is some great number? If this is a
big budget film that is a big loss because opening weekend is the biggest and
then it drops 40% from there the next weekend. Since Ari is against indie films,
Head On had to be a big studio picture and cost a ton of movie. Most films
average cost, distribution and advertising is about $70 million.
The scene with Drama and his agent is funny because it shows
what happens when you are a C list actor, you get the bottom of the barrel
literally. The pitches Vince gets are great because they all suck and the suck
ups act like they are so great. Ari doesn't care about quality, he just wants a
money maker so he makes more money. It's the perfect look at how Hollywood makes
a product and no longer makes art. This leads to another great curse out scene
between Ari and Eric which leads to an Ari classic, "Let's hug it out,
bitch" line.
The Busey art gallery scene is perfect because what else
would you expect to see from a nut like Busey but total garbage? It was probably
is all really made by him in real life. Turtle breaking a crappy sculpture is
also very funny because it leads everyone to think Busey is going to kill him
for the rest of the episode. This also contains a great Drama subplot about him
wondering if he should become a waiter to make some money since he isn't getting
any roles.
We get to see another side of Ari as he starts to melt down
about Josh's party and more of his sneaky side as he tries to trick Vince out of
going to Josh's party. Drama asking about the waiter job is a funny continuation
from before with the opposite results. This waiter doesn't want to hear it from
him probably thinking he is being mocked.
The whole backing stabbing scene with Josh vs. Ari vs. Eric
is great and comes to a funny head fast. Ari gets tons of crap for running out
of his kids party and he reams Josh a new butthole in front of everyone. As soon
as everything looks like it's going down the toilet for Ari, he is back on top
within minutes and everyone if friends again. It's great fast pace comedy that
keeps us on our toes.
Episode 07
Even on the simplest thing Ari is great, like
when he is at the wrong place. The busting on Eric comes to a head later which
is the basis for his whole screwed up relationship with Emily. Drama is
shameless. Every time Vince is up for a role Drama wants to know if there's a
part for him. Eric and Billy get off to a bad start that never gets much better.
It's funny that Billy says Eric is a suit, one of the studio people, when he
isn't. I guess the scene of Billy stealing and being high is to show that he is
a bit of a jerk.
There is great dialog between the guys about the role turning
gay. Even better is Vince's reaction when he learns he'd have to do a gay sex
scene. The scene with the guys getting lap dances while having a conversation
shows what guys thinks of strippers, they are just objects, barely human. When
Eric learns he drunk dialed Kristen instead of Emily he realizes why it's all
screwed up, but he doesn't ever do anything to fix it.
We get our biggest look into Ari's home life so far with his
romantic weekend with his wife. Of course Ari chooses business over pleasure and
ruins it all. It's ironic that Ari and Eric are bonding over disgust of Billy
when they are always going at each other.
Unfortunately they don't show us Billy's film. All we can see
is some lame artsy black and white stuff. Surprising Eric had planned on hating
it, but he loves it. His plan has backfired, now he's sold on doing Queens Blvd
too.
The whole oral sex scene turned out to big a big loyalty test
for Vince that he passes, then he turns it around on Billy and tricks him. It
doesn't make any sense why Eric doesn't get it when it's so obvious. It's great
how Drama screws up while kissing Billy's ass saying he loved his film. He says
he knows, he told him before, but this time he really saw it! Billy totally
insults him by saying he'd be perfect for the scumbag bookie character, but
Drama is so glad to get the role he doesn't even care.
Episode 08
We get a good idea of what a slut Vince is
when he reveals he needs a list of all the women he needs to say goodbye too.
Plus that he's with them all at once and giving them all the same story shows
how shallow he is. A throwaway line about Scarlett Johansson pays
off later in a surprise ending.
It's sad that Eric seems so emotionally attached to Vince,
but even worse that he puts up with Kristen who is really so annoying. She can
see everyone else's faults except her own. Ari has a great scene when he is bailing
during Larry Charles' rant, who plays himself and it is no coincidence that he's
a writer on the
show. Drama saves Ari's butt and then gets blasted for interrupting a real
client! It shows what Ari really thinks of Drama, he only tolerates him because
of Vince. There's also a great dig at all the CSI shows that they would make CSI
Minneapolis and of course it's filmed in Canada. Drama also shows his sneaky
side by talking up how great the role will be when it is really crap just to get
Vince to keep him on, even though he begged Vince for the Queens role in the
first place!
We also learn an interesting fact about Vince - he's never
had a driver's license. This explains why we never see him driving, but not the
reason behind it.
I wonder if that will be an upcoming plot point. Eric finally disses Vince for
the first time by abandoning him at the girls' house, but Vince turns it around
into another score anyway and doesn't even get mad. A scene of Vince and Eric physically
fighting would've been better, like old time friends would be apt to do. He does
get revenge by sending him to the meeting with Ari instead.
It is funny and cheesy that Turtle has flyers printed up for
the party. I wonder how much money he made? Probably more than he made for going
to NY for Queens Blvd, maybe enough to cover the plane fare.
It's even worse for Eric to go to Ari's now that Emily hates him for not
calling her back. He no longer has an ally at Ari's firm. It was a great visual
mocking the Don Johnson wannabes all dressed up like Miami Vice at Drama's
audition. In a classic scene Drama wildly flips out because someone isn't
paying attention to him while he auditions and he blows his chance at getting the role. Then
instead of whining about it he says he'd rather be in the movies.
Once again things don't go the way Eric wants them too. He
wants to go one on one with Vince in private, but Vince wants him to pitch
himself to the three of them. It's really a great scene because Eric gets
totally frustrated because he wants to be important and taken seriously, Drama
rightly tells Vince he won't be able to find another guy that genuinely likes
him and Turtle correctly points out that Kristen put him up to it.
The guys need a place to stay while filming Queens Blvd and
Drama wants to stay with Turtle, but Turtle's mom doesn't like him so he makes a
deal to get cash for Drama to have somewhere to stay. Vince sets up Eric by
leaving his wallet home and making him bring it. This way he has to come to the
airport as they are leaving. Vince still doesn't like the idea of Eric as his
manager and is ready to leave him there. Basically if Eric works for him
officially it can screw up their friendship, but Eric is willing to risk it.
Then Eric seals the deal by getting Scarlett Johansson to call Vince. Poor Eric
has no baggage and is forced to leave his car there as they depart for 3 months.
Episode 09
Well, they left us hanging with Scarlett Johansson.
There was no mention about what happened with her and Vince. The one thing I
didn't like here was they only showed the guys coming back from the film, but
didn't show anything of them in Queens making the film. We've never seen the
guys in their hometown and it could've been fun.
It's unbelievable that Eric stayed faithful the whole time to
a girl who screwed him over so many times. When they left Eric's car it was just
sitting there on the tarmac abandoned. Now it has been parked and it is gross.
It doesn't make sense, but it is a funny visual. After all of Eric's waiting
Kristen blows him off and he's too in love to see it. She could've told him in
advance she couldn't be with him or didn't want to be anymore.
We are introduced to Lloyd who is Ari's new assistant. He's a
character since he's a small gay Asian man. This is also the first mention we
have of Cameron that will be important later. Ari is already on edge and Vince
busts on him by saying he wants to do a play for no money. Ari buys it and
threatens suicide. Some of the funniest moments are when they trick each other
like this. The first mention of Aquaman goes nowhere, but wee learn Ari's
already go a stake in it. He's really interested in making the most possible
money for himself. Vince and Ari get some great shots in on Eric about him not
getting laid too. This is just a great scene in every way.
Back at home Turtle is feeling disrespected, which is ironic
since he's the one guy in thee group with no job. Eric learns he isn't as
respected as he wants to be. Even though he's officially the manager Shauna
reams him out and he has no card or office or anything when it comes time to
hook Vince up with Amanda Peet. Vince also learns he's not a big enough star for
the Escobar film and that's why he needs to do Aquaman. Ari is probably lying to
him to force him into taking the role, but Vince turns it down.
Gar Busey returns for another bizarre scene with his artwork.
He gets all weird about the light and Eric gets upset that Turtle scheduled it
without him. When Turtle comes through with an order of food from back home they
all respect him a little bit more, especially Eric when Turtle screwed Ari with
the bill.
Everything seems to be failing apart and the show ends like a
season cliffhanger. Vince can't get any work and he wants to get rid of Ari
again. On the other hand things are looking up for Drama which is a total switch
from usual.
Episode 10
It seems like Vince is extremely generous by
giving away a super expensive car, until he admits he got it for free. Since he
doesn't drive, he can't use it anyway. Big deal. It's funny how Drama always
makes these comments about his life until one of the guys hits him with the
truth, like him bragging about having sex in an Italian sports car.
More great shamelessness from Ari. He is bribing Vince by
taking him to the basketball game just to try to sell him Aquaman. Vince doesn't
bite and blows him off. It's funny how Ari yells at everyone around him and
feels justified because he spent so much for the seats.
Eric gets played by Kristen again and again and just can't
see it. It's funny how she keeps blowing him off and the guys keep razzing him,
but he doesn't get it. There is a subplot that is funny because it is so insane.
Drama is goofed on about his skinny legs and doesn't like to wear shorts because
of it, so he's thinking about getting implants. He then acts like a freak every
time he sees a guy with legs he likes and asks them about them. Their reactions
to him are as expected and great.
It's also funny how Vince agrees to whatever Jamie Pressley
wants so he can score, much to the horror of Ari and Eric over him taking crappy
jobs.
Eric shows what a dope he is after Vince hooks him up with a
Perfect 10 model by talking about Kristen with her. He's not a total dope though
since he winds up sleeping with her twice. Deep down he must know Kristen is
cheating on him. Either way he finds out she is soon enough. She couldn't be
faithful since she was convinced he couldn't be either. Finally she is out of
his life, but he is so guilty he buys her an expensive gift, that he winds up
returning and gets another phone number because of it.
Another great Ari scene when he pitches the guys in a sauna.
It's funny how Ari acts like such a big man in front of the guys, then when he's
with his wife we see he's totally whipped. He goofs on Eric for cheating, but he
knows he'd never cheat himself. Vince totally busts Eric by pretending he's
going to date Arianna. Eric should know his best friend better.
It ends in a funny way with the guys goofing on Eric once
again for screwing it up with Kristen. The least he can do is fake being happy
so they can be happy.
Episode 11
Drama lets it out early that he's not
allowed at the mansion which is a central plot to the episode, only later do we
find out why. Turtle is funny when he's such a cheap bastard getting expensive
items only to return them or returning free gifts that Vince gets. Drama then
blames Ralph Macchio on the incident that got him banned for life from Playboy,
based on the fact that animals are kept there.
Then we get the first look at the Aquaman suit which looks
like something a gay disco dancer from the 70s would wear. This convinces Vince
he doesn't want the role. After this he shows how removed he is from reality by
buying a house he can't afford without the Aquaman money.
Then we get to see the real Ralph Macchio who looks so
different from his Karate Kid years as to be unrecognizable. It's a great scene
where Ralph fools his wife and he doesn't care, he's going to the mansion and
Drama can rot for all he cares.
The guys try to pull the old sneak people into the drive-in
trick by hiding Drama in the trunk of the car and it doesn't work. It's funny
that he has to walk home in a bathrobe and people on the street harass him.
Turtle then screws up by getting too close to a painted playmate and it ruins
his plans on returning the pajamas. I can't imagine spending $1200 on pajamas,
so it's funny that he got screwed.
Ari has a great scene trying to sneak out to the Mansion. One
again Ari's wife (only known as Ari's wife!) shows who wears the pants. Ari
tries to casually pretend it's just a meeting, no big deal. She makes him have a
curfew AND to take her on vacation - two things you know he doesn't want to do,
but gets stuck agreeing to it.
Drama's drama comes to a head when he confronts Ralph after
sneaking in and gets caught. Finally Pauly Shore is revealed as the culprit and
gets thrown out. It's perfect to have that loser playing a loser, in other words
himself and getting tossed on his ass. Too bad it's not a true story.
Once Ari tells Vince how much money he'll make and how much
Eric will make as manager if he takes Aquaman, things change drastically. Now he
wants in, as long as they can ditch the stupid costume. Ari could care less
about the costume, he wants his cut. Everything is looking good for the guys.
Episode 12
Poor Drama gets mocked again when he wants to
decorate the new house. Then he wants to move the pool and he's still carrying
on about calf surgery! He has become such a funny character and there is a lot
going on in the first minutes alone with him.
Vince really screws up by buying the house when Aquaman isn't
even signed, worse yet, it might not happen. Then he spends more money he
doesn't have on the decorator, then he wants to spend over $10,000 on sharks! He
really is a dope.
Drama actually gets as far as going to a doctor about the
surgery which is great. Turtle has a funny line about kicking Brad Pitt's ass
because he's just a pretty boy wimp. Drama knows he can't ask Vince for the
money so he tries to box for money and winds up getting his ass kicked which is
more great stuff. When he has to go with his tail between his legs to Vince they
goof on him more saying the calf surgery is like breast implants.
Everything in the season suddenly changes when Josh drops the
bomb that Cameron's directing.
One of the best scenes in the series is Ari at marriage counseling. He is
supposed to be there to fix things, but only makes it worse by answering the
phone when he wasn't supposed to and running out. Ari's insane devotion to his
work really shines through here. When he gets back to work he is still so insane
that in another classic Ari scene he fires the mailman, thinking he is another
agent Pete who knew about Cameron when the guys knows nothing about anything.
It looks bad though when Ari finds out Cameron is in France
and wants to talk to Decaprio first. Even worse after the last episode ending on
a high, this one is low when they find out Decaprio is out of town to meet with
Cameron.
Episode 13
The first scene shows out laid back and out
of it the guys are. Vince is front page news for a role he doesn't even
have and Eric is still in bed. Of course Ari puts in perspective right away by
mocking Variety to Eric. Then he turns around and we see he's totally worried
about it. Classic Ari hypocrisy.
We meet Vince's latest hot girl who is a big subplot of the
episode, then out of nowhere Bob Saget arrives at the door. It's so funny to see
him play a crazy, horny pervert - he's probably just playing himself though. I'm
used to seeing him as the world's most unfunniest man on America's Funniest
Videos. The best thing is Vince is all nice to him and then at the end doesn't
even know who he is!
We get out first look at Queens Blvd, a scene of Vince in the
rain, but the funny part is how Turtle can't get laid even if he pays for it.
Then Eric drops the bomb that Vince is broke with Aquaman. I don't feel sorry
for him though because Vince is such a schmuck who doesn't really pay attention
to what is going on around him.
Ari has another great scene by mocking on how gay Lloyd looks
in his suit and then 5 seconds later he doesn't even remember Emily who worked
for him the whole first season. She's only been gone a few months ! It really
shows how Ari is such a self-centered user. He doesn't really care about anyone,
he just promises anything to get what he wants. It's a great line when he says
he'll write her a recommendation after she already got the job. Both he and Eric
are screwed that Emily is now working for Cameron, she knows it and gladly blows
Ari off.
Poor Turtle looks like a fool when the girl runs off on him
at lunch without even talking to him. Then the guys screw up the big secret by
not wanting anything and offering to pay for lunch. Vince catches on fast, of
course Turtle gets the best line that he was paying with Vince's credit card
anyway! Of course Vince blames everyone but himself.
Vince turns into a baby threatening to fire Eric and Ari if
they don't get him this part that he didn't want before since he's a big fan of
Cameron. Eric's big idea is that if Cameron sees Queen's Blvd he'll have to have
Vince. Ari put him in his place by reminding him that no one has seen the film.
Great stuff.
More great goofing on Turtle with Drama who are like the
Abbott & Costello of the group. Then Bob drops the bomb the Stacy is running
a high class whorehouse there. Vince is devastated thinking Stacy's really with
him for the money. Saget has a great line that seems to explain his Funniest
Videos/Full House years - he doesn't remember them, he was high all through the
90s. Eric has to go with his tail between his legs back to Emily, making him
seem like a skunk.
Once again Ari steals the show by going wild at his kids'
school when he spots Dana. He totally accosts her much to the ire of his wife
who leaves him there. Then he's stuck begging Dana for a ride after she is
repulsed by him.
Vince makes a deal for the guys to get laid and Stacy hooks
them up with 2 whores. Eric thinks he made the deal of a lifetime in securing
Cameron. All he has to do is watch Queens Blvd. He gets his first blow when Ari
tells him he had a meeting with Cameron for free, no screening involved. Then a
funny seen as Drama and Turtle both come up to Vince separately to tell him they
knew the girls were hookers but not to tell the other guy because he couldn't
handle it. Eric gets his second blow when he meets with Billy Walsh who refuses
to give Cameron a private screening, he'll have to come to Sundance like
everyone else. Eric is destroyed and realizes being a tough manager isn't easy
as it looks.
Episode 14
Stacy from the last episode seems to be
gone, how can Vince go through girls so quick when they are his neighbors? It
seems like he would run into her too often. It's funny to see an older guy like
Turtle all into online gaming and how he thinks he's so great. Vince plays him
for a fool by telling him he has to pass a urine test to get in. He stops
smoking weed and still has to make a deal to get clean urine. Vince then puts
Eric in his place about making money by telling him to make some calls, get him
some work. Ari gets a great dig in by saying Vince is miserable because poor people aren't
happy.
We finally get to see Ari in his element bossing his
employees around in a pitch meeting. He's so funny and cruel that when a woman
gives a bad idea he makes her leave the room. When the idea for a Japanese TV
commercial comes up Ari jumps on it. He claims Vince is number 1 in Japan, but
doesn't say how or why. He's only had one major film recently open. Vince shows
his hypocrisy by going from not wanting to do commercials from only wanting to
do them when he hears the price.
Then the guys meet with the Japanese director and Bai Ling
from Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow is their go between. She immediately
wants Vince and wants to hurt Drama. Drama pretends like he's a bad ass karate
man and she beats him down, then pulls Vince onto her and into a sex scene.
Eric has to go into Scott's gay world which is gross and
funny and Scott busts on him about it, especially when Eric thinks Scott's young
gay lover is his son. Turtle secures his urine and brings it with him only to be
totally goofed on when he tries to present it to the girl at the door. If that
isn't bad enough Turtle has to play against a kid 1/4 of his age and loses, bad!
So much for him making money.
Everything goes badly for Eric when his attempt to get Queens
Blvd fails. Then the guys are off to make the Japanese commercial. To my
surprise, they show the finished ad after. It's kind of like a Matrix parody
with Vince as Neo, except not in black with sunglasses. Drama tosses him a can
of the drink and he's able to easily defeat them all in a hurricane of activity,
it's great campy stuff.
Episode 15
Drama and Turtle act all badass right away,
then Eric puts them in their places by goofing on them that they've never
snowboarded outside a store. Vince acts like the arrogant jerk he is by betting
them he can get down first. Eric has a good scene in the airport bathroom
networking Vince, showing his managerial skills for the first time. Plus he gets
a great dig at Ari by saying he doesn't care about Vince.
It's funny how the guys bitch about not having their own
rooms in the cabin. Who cares? It's a free vacation for them and they still want
more. There is a classic Turtle cheapskate moment when he scarfs up the extra
sidekicks left for Vince to sell or trade. Vince then gets a great dig at Turtle
and Drama when he says he saw Cassie first. They know they can't compete with
Vince and are bummed out. Then Vince tells them he was kidding and laughs at
them.
Turtle then comes through by using a sidekick to bribe his
way into the film that Drama took Cassie to and blows Drama's chance at getting
her alone. Eric then gets hit with a snowball out of nowhere and it's Ari. Then
they have a great back and forth when Ari doesn't believe Eric set up a meeting
with Harvey and gets a good dig in at Kevin Smith in the process.
Drama has a great ass kissing scene with the director of the
Spanish film because he wants to work with him. He jumps up first and starts
clapping egging others to get up too then jumps to ask the first question at the
Q&A, which is rally another attempt to get himself a job by pimping out
Queens Blvd. He claims he's an American with Chilean blood! Classic.
Vince and Eric agree to take the film with Harvey since they
need the money and Ari confesses than Cameron isn't coming to just see Vince.
He's got other people in mind. Then it all backfires when Vince decides he wants
to wait for Cameron since he is his favorite director. Of course this throws
Harvey into a rage and he totally curses Eric out in front of everyone and says
he'll send him back to the pizza business and burns a bridge with ever working
with him again. Cameron laughs about it as he is nearby.
Drama and Turtle go for a threesome with Cassie that turns
horribly wrong. Somehow their penises touched and Drama flipped out. It wasn't
shown, but we hear about it later which gives Vince a chance to goof on them
hoping they weren't alone when this happened.
The real James Cameron does show up and has a great exchange
by goofing on a girl who loves Titanic. She asks if the sinking of the ship was
foreshadowing the sinking of the tech market in 2000. He says he just wanted to
make young girls cry. It sounds like a joke when Walsh says Queens Blvd is 4
hours long, but he isn't kidding! Talk about delusions of grandeur, how will he
ever make money on this thing?
Eric has a great lie that Harvey took it well, but Cameron
left after 10 minutes. They are all really bummed out about that. It seems like
Vince blew his future. Drama also gets screwed over after dragging Alejandro
with him, he was cut from the film!
Everything turns out great in the end because Cameron had to
leave early, but liked what he saw. Then Vince ups the bet to $10,000. Turtle is
excited, but too scared, so Drama tosses him down the slope.
Episode 16
Vince gets his first major paycheck, but who
cares? Ari gets off two killer lines making fun of Eric's complexion and his
height. The guys suddenly move into Jessica Alba's house since she is out of
town and they are getting Vince's house ready. The only thing that doesn't make
sense is they are too far away from work which creates headaches, but they are
living for free, so maybe it balances out. Also I just can't imagine Alba
letting four guys live in her house unsupervised. They excuse is they are too
watch her cats, but we never see any cats the whole time. I'm shocked they
didn't have a scene with Turtle going through her underwear or clothes drawer
either. Drama has a funny scene when he keeps wailing on on Turtle's hands and a
good scene about talking who should play Aquagirl, not on their acting method,
but on if they'll sleep with Vince. We then get our first hint that Vince and
Mandy Moore, the singer/actress had a relationship that went sour. Eric is
surprised as we are and we learn as he learns since he was still in Queens when
Vince dated her.
At the supermarket Eric starts to learn how crazy Vince was
about Mandy, basically stalking her and really can't believe it. Then there is a
great scene when Turtle and Drama steal Froot Loops cereal from the real Joyce
Brothers's cart. Then Ari starts to get wind of problems with Vince and Mandy,
even he didn't know about them and Eric can't tell him what's going on without
talking to Vince.
Vicne then starts lying to Eric about Mandy which is a very
bad sign, but they have to go to Scuba training and can't get into it too much.
The instructor is a crusty, old Navy Seal who doesn't take any crap from them
and busts them at the same time. He would be a good character to bring back.
Drama's audition has an inside joke that references what
happened in episode 8 when he flipped out on a guy not paying attention. The
same exact thing happens again and they warn him not to flip out again. In the
lobby is a great joke where all the other guys trying out for the role are
dressed like Don Johnson during Miami Vice.
Then we get another great Drama scene which makes him an even
better character than ever before. He's so mad because he thinks he blew his
audition that he gets into a road rage situation. In a parody of Jack Nicholson
or OJ Simpson's real life escapades, he goes after a guy with a golf club and
smashes his car. In the middle of all this drama he learns he got the role after
all and is so happy he doesn't even care he's getting arrested.
Once he is bailed out of jail, he becomes cool, he has an
arrest record in Hollywood and shows he and Vince aren't someone to be messed
with. When Mandy Moore wants to have dinner with Vince everyone is concerned,
now add Shauna to that list. Vince thinks everyone has lost their mind and he
doesn't care about the girl.
Meanwhile Ari is at his photo shoot and learns Josh Weinstein
has finally gotten revenge for what Ari did to him in episode 6 - he ratted him
out for being too old to be on the Top 40 Under 40 list. Ari is furious and is
bailing, but there's nothing he can do.
The guys get cable installed at the house and there is yet
another joke about Don Johnson, this one about him being broke and trying to pay
the guy off with signed DVDs. Cruel, but funny. Eric now sees first hand that
Vince is heading for trouble because for the first time in his life Vince asks
him how he looks. Drama says something really gay about the color of the shirt
not bringing out his eyes.
Vince's dinner with Mandy goes from bad to worse. It's bad
enough the guy's are outside babysitting, then inside they have nothing to say
at first, then we learn Vince proposed to her without really knowing her, then
took off and never talked to her again. He tries to play it cool the whole time
until he learns she is engaged. Then he wants her off the movie. We get to see a
side of Vince we've never seen, him not being able to score with a woman and
being a vindictive jerk about it. If we needed any proof of what a true jerk he
is we get it here.
Episode 17
This is the funniest episode so far. Because
of this site I sometimes go to conventions to get interviews with people who
worked with Malcolm and I see the insanity up close, just like in this episode.
We get our first indication at how old Drama is. He says 31, but I don't think
anyone believes him. Ari convinces Vince the only way to sell the film is to
comic book geeks, which is true. It turns out Drama is a staple at the cons
signing for Viking Quest and he's excited about Vince going with him. Then it
turns out Ari screwed up big time by not getting the right tickets for Drama's
birthday and Drama is such a dork he wouldn't pay scalpers for tickets even
though they could easily have afforded it.
At the ComicCon we learn Drama used to work with Vanessa
Angel and hates her. Everyone there knows who Drama is and they don't know
Vince, for once he isn't the star and will have to be introduced as Drama's
brother. Drama even comes prepared with his axe and costume from Viking Quest -
classic!
Soon after Vince runs into Mandy and stupidly agrees to have
dinner with her and her fiancé because he wants to please her. Turtle is even
more impressed by Drama having a porn star he likes as a friend. Eric goofs on
him hoping he wasn't in porn, thankfully he wasn't, not a nice visual.
Another classic scene is Turtle being forced to quiz Drama on
his character so he doesn't look bad in front of his dorky fans. Then two of the
dorks come up to him and Turtle negotiates money for an exclusive, but Drama is
impressed with their obsession of the show and agrees to a freebie, only to have
them blow him off when Angel walks by! It's perfect how fake these losers are
and how they drool over any girl in sci-fi. After Turtle convinces Drama that
one of his answers is wrong. This turns out to be one of the funniest moments
when later we learn Turtle tricked Drama and makes him look like an idiot in
front of fans.
Everything falls apart for Vince when RJ knows his secret
about Mandy. Even Eric and Shauna didn't know he proposed to her. Vince being
the baby he is storms off and blows it. The guy will now dedicate his time to
screwing Vince over on his website.
Both Vanessa and Turtle warn Drama about using not using
sunblock. He's so crazy he wants to use baby oil so he'll look all tan for the
signing. This exchange pays off later when Drama returns to look like a lobster,
completely sunburned.
RJ is like the thinner, better looking version of Harry
Knowles and even admits what a loser he really is - he lives in his mom's
basement and wanted to make money and get laid which hasn't happened.
Even more funny is Drama has 2 different Viking outfits to
choose from! As is the case at these things there is always some older has been
celebrity that has a table with no one around. That would be Drama, while his
nemesis Angel has a huge booth, giant banners and a big crowd.
Vince makes himself an even bigger loser by blowing Mandy off
when he sees her and her boyfriend kissing.
Not only does Drama look like a fool, act like a fool by not
knowing the answers, a guy with a U2 shirt pisses him off more about missing the
concert. He then suddenly flips out and yells at Vanessa in the middle of her
speech. Unbelievably she stops the speech to talk to him. In a crazy reversal we
learn they are both attracted to each other and Drama blew it by acting like a
jerk so he wouldn't get hurt! Then he kisses her and all the dorks love it and
he gives his now famous "Victory!!!!" Viking cry. It sounds like a
parody of "freedom" from Braveheart.
The guys convince the porn stars to help Vince, but only
because they like him. They go to RJ's room and his loser dreams have finally
come true - hot, horny chicks that want to have sex with him. It pays off too
because he sells out to say how great Vince is. Then we see how fake celebrities
are now that Vince and Mandy are mad at each other back stage, but go out and
speak like they are best friends.
I don't know how they did it, but at the U2 concert they
somehow convinced Bono to say happy birthday to Drama. They make it look like
they do have nosebleed seats, but it was a trick that shows them really in the
4th row. They weren't really there though, it was done with CGI.
Episode 18
Finally after waiting the whole season we get
to the first Malcolm episode. It starts with a good scene of how boring it can
be to make effects films. Vince and Mandy get to hang on wires for a long time.
Vince shows he's still screwed in the head by professing his love for Mandy.
He's even dopier by not realizing the mics are on and Eric is startled. Cameron
didn't know they had a history so Vince might blow this too, possibly losing his
job over this. This is the most Cameron yet, I don't know how they got him to do
the show, but it makes it so much more authentic. Another great line is when he
has to leave to check out the hovercraft.
There's a great scene with Eric when he acts like he doesn't
care about clothes until Sloan comes by and suddenly he'll do whatever is takes
to impress her, including buying a new suit for the insane sum of $3,000.
Ari shows how cruel he is, even at home by saying his own
daughter sounds awful. The man who makes all of Hollywood fear him suddenly is
scared to hear his boss has come over. What could be a better role for Malcolm
than to be more villainous than the biggest villain in Hollywood!? Brilliant.
Terrence wants to meet Vince which makes Ari crazy. He doesn't want to do that,
he's afraid of losing his star client. Terrence only cares because Sloan told
him Vince is a star and she is never wrong. Ari lamely tries to say he's always
known he's a star. Then Terrence drops a bomb of a gift on Ari, a check for
$50,000 for his daughter! Can you imagine? Malcolm is great here, calm, cool and
collected - smooth. Ari is as nervous as can be and you can tell Terrence loves
making him squirm, but doesn't want to be obvious about it.
The next scene starts a running gag throughout the episode.
Since Drama is a cook he convinces Turtle not to eat before they go, this makes
for craziness for them during the rest of the episode. Then the guys are really
busting on Eric for going all out to impress Sloan, even cruelly telling him to
kill himself if this doesn't workout. Then Eric hits back hard by forcing Vince
to tell the guys about him and Mandy. No one can believe it, which leads Vince
to enact revenge by saying he's going after Sloan and then making it a
competition between him and Eric. The guys can't believe Eric thinks he can go
toe to toe with Vince.
The next scene with Malcolm is great because we get to hear
what Ari and his wife think of Terrence and his young actress wife. It's not
pretty. The women trade great insults which surprise the men who aren't even
that harsh. Ari is really hard on Drama and Turtle which is funny. Then Ari's
daughter screws up by letting Vince know she has a crush on him. Even worse is
Ari will try to use this to his advantage. It's funny how MM's wife is close to
his real life wife - young and pretty.
Turtle and Drama have a great scene when they learn there
will be no food for a long time as everyone else already ate at the temple. They
are screwed. Then Drama has to explain to a deaf old man what he used to do by
yelling at him which is great stuff.
Vince starts to get nasty by insulting Eric by flirting with
Sloan in front of him, then insulting Eric in front of Sloan. She is only
talking to him to bring him to her dad which Vince doesn't pick up on. Then Eric
takes Sloan away so Vince and Terrence can be alone. Meanwhile Ari is up on
stage watching this and starting to freak out. This last time this happened they
split Bill & Ted. Terrence got Keanu and Ari got Alex Winter. Ari gives a
mushy speech about his daughter that seems heartfelt, until he screws the family
over by dishonoring the grandfather and calling Vince up just so he can get him
away from Terrence. Great stuff! Just when you are shocked to think Ari is a
nice guy he shows his true colors in the drop of a hat.
The guys get stuck with a
vegetarian meal and are about to lose it. Turtle even offers the the deaf guy
$100 for his steak! They then try to sneak into the kitchen and wind up bribing
the waitress with some weed and she takes them outside to the kids section and
they are overjoyed at the "real" food - hot dogs and junk.
We get to see a lot of who wears the pants in Ari's family in
this episode. It's not Ari. ARi tries to pimp his daughter out by forcing her to
dance with Vince to keep him away from Terrence which fails. Once again Ari's
wife tells him to confront Terrence and he does. Ari tells him point blank he
can't have Vince. Terrence barely bats an eyelash and says it's his company and
everyone in the company belongs to every agent. He then puts him in his
place by subtly threatening to fire him.
At the pool is an ironic scene where Turtle and Drama tell
some teenagers not to smoke weed! What a bunch of hypocrites. Even better is the
kids know it and rake them over the coals with Drama forced to admit he was once
a male prostitute to score drugs once.
Suddenly all of Vince's plans with Sloan fall apart when she
tells him she doesn't date actors and has told him this before. Not only is he
shallow, he's empty headed, totally blowing it. Then Mandy calls him and he
doesn't care about Sloan anymore and really sells Eric to her. Eric thinks Vince
is scoring with Sloan now and doesn't want to talk to him again, then he's
shocked when she comes back for him and mad that Vince ran off with Mandy.
Vince and Mandy run off together, rekindling their
relationship to a great ending of a stoned Turtle and Drama wondering if that
was really them going by. Malcolm isn't in the episode that much, but when he is
it's to make Ari go crazy without even trying. Nothing could be better for him
to do on the show.
Episode 19
The show starts out great with Drama wanting
Turtle to act like Brooke Shields while reading his script. What's he thinking?
Then he gets so delusional he thinks Brooke would rather have him than her
husband. Vince breaks the news that he and Mandy are back together and once
again Drama gets off the good line about dumping a girl before Valentine's day
to save yourself money. Of course Vince wants to go overboard with a present
which they know is a bad idea.
Malcolm's first scene is in his backyard where he has a skeet
shooting area set up. If he lives on the same street as Ari, how does that work?
I guess when you have money you can get away with that. Terrence doesn't do much
here except name drop - he was with Ann-Marget and can hook Vince up with
Tarantino. Drama is still out of it thinking he's going to bring Brooke as his
date to Mandy's party because of their love scene.
The crap hits the fan when the papers publish that Vince and
Mandy are together. It didn't take long, only 1 day. But the best stuff in the
scene is Ari and Eric going back and forth. Ari is jealous and nervous that they
were at Terrence's. Of course he lashes out that they should've been working
instead of fooling around shooting. Eric gets him back by saying he was offered
Ari's job and then mocks on the size of his office. Ari gets him back by calling
Vince's friends retarded. Shauna then gets shockingly graphic which is funny.
Then Vince goads Ari into giving him a $100,000 painting off his wall to give to
Mandy. All he has to do is throw Terrence's name around to get Ari to
jump. Eric insults Mandy by saying her favorite artist was Beyonce, but
surprisingly Vince doesn't let it bother him.
I'm really surprised that they haven't done any paparazzi/stalkerazzi
stuff with Vince, especially when he's front page news. They should be all over
him trying to get a picture with Mandy. Vince acts like a total tool around
Mandy, like a love struck teenager. Eric is repulsed when Vince and Mandy are
texting each other right after they saw each other. Vince doesn't care and
basically tells Eric to screw off and Eric has had enough of him.
Drama has another great scene when he wants to sit next
to Brooke and makes up a story to get rid of the guy next to her. He tries to
smooth talk her about their love scene and she breaks the news to him that he's
playing her brother. All his dreams just go up in smoke. It's classic that he
had this whole fantasy planned out in his mind.
You know Vince is acting like an idiot when even Turtle
points it out to him he's acting immature about Eric. He doesn't get it though.
Drama doesn't give up though, he comes in with a huge batch of Brooke's movies
to watch.
Sloan convinces Eric to go to Vince's party. Even better she
reveals a dirty secret about how cheap Ari is. They don't say it, but it looks
like Ari hung the fake painting in his office on purpose to win one over on
Vince and getting a dig on Terrence.
Eric then has it out with Ari about the fake painting. Ari is
all crazy because they are fakes too for going behind his back about Tarantino.
Eric doesn't get him since it was Ari's boss who set it up. Then Ari gets in
some great lines about how flakey Tarantino is and what kind of goofy script he
would write.
Ari's such a cheapskate and a double crosser. We see this
when he has the same painting at home and would rather give his wife the fake
than to have Vince find out he was tricked with a fake. He's all business, crazy
and totally funny.
Another classic scene occurs when Drama is hugging Brooke and
she runs off disgusted because he is in his shorts and is poking her with a
Boner. He's got such a goofy look on his fake like "what did I do?"
Everyone can't believe it and he gets fired.
Malcolm only has one more small scene at the party. Now
Malcolm has done in jokes before like using his dog's name in I'll Sleep When
I'm Dead, but nothing like this. He says he has to leave
early to his 18 month old son Beckett who keeps him awake crying! His real sons'
name and age - it came out of nowhere and was laugh out loud funny for those of
us in the know.
Drama shows how cheap he is by giving Mandy the Viking Quest series on DVD.
But Turtle outcheaps him by saying it was from both of them. Ari sneakily
gets the last laugh on Vince because he convinced Niche was pronounced Nich and
Vince embarrasses himself trying to correct Mandy. It was another great episode,
just not enough MM, but he made up for it with the Beckett line.
Episode 20
Once again it's downhill for Malcolm. This
time he only appears in one scene...but it's a good one. It takes place in the
parking garage of their building. Ari is mad the valet doesn't have his car
ready and he soon learns he had to wait in line behind Terrence. Terrence
appears and gets right in his face. He knows the whole Aquaman deal is getting
screwed up and makes sure Ari knows who is in charge, much to Ari's
embarrassment. He doesn't even have to get ugly, he just asks what was
Barb doing there and that he'll be watching him - sinister power.
The bulk of the episode deals with Vince screwing up over his
obsession with Mandy. Ari gets off a great line when eyeing up a hot mother and
saying "got milf?" Otherwise not much funny happens until Eric
chastises Vince for missing the physical, then has to admit the Maseratti Vince
got him was stolen. Drama then gets off a crazy line that when someone steals
your car, it's like someone cheating on your girl - it's never the same when you
get them back. We also learn that Ari's been a snake for a long time. When he
worked for another company he was in danger of being fired so he made a sexual
harassment charge to keep his job - shameless!
Eric then gets the riot act dealt to him in War Room, a nice Dr. Strangelove reference.. Basically it's Ari
and a dozen of Mandy's people against him and he's not happy about it. Mandy's
agent Barbara is Ari's old boss and there is no love lost there and she hits
Eric hard enough to really piss him off and he still defends Vince, even though
he's at the end of his rope with him.
The subplot, which is where the title of the episode comes in,
is that a rapper named Saigon (who is playing himself) stole the car
on purpose and left his demo CD inside. The only problem is he thought the car
belonged to the manager of Interscope records. It's certainly a different,
desperate way to get your music out, even if it's totally illegal. It also turns
out Turtle is an expert on rap music and the guys totally rip Drama for not
knowing a thing about rap. Turtle wants to get the song in Vince's film, but
inadvertently winds up becoming Saigon's manager. Everyone is trying to line up
something for themselves as they think Vince is crashing and burning over Mandy.
After the firestorm over Vince and Mandy Ari drops a bomb on
Eric. Cameron is mad and says Vince is replaceable. Eric can see his future
going down the toilet. Then Barbara hits Eric over the head with a valuable piece
of advice - she's very worried about Mandy and she has 100 clients, Eric has
one, how worried should he be? This seems to really wake Eric up, Vince is his
friend, but he's also his client and he needs to take control of this before it
gets any worse.
Turtle and Drama go to see Billy Walsh because Vince doesn't
want to saying he's crazy. He's holed up in this dark, smoky hotel room and he pulls a fast
one on Drama. He tells him he'll put Drama's scene back in the film if he gives
him his watch, after he does he busts him that the scene was back in all ready!
Poor Drama, everyone abuses him.
Eric tells Vince Cameron said he
can be replaced and at first Vince is bummed, but soon figures it out. For a guy
who is supposed to be a Ken doll, he shows some good insight here. They go to
see Ari and they give him looks that kill and Ari knows it. Ari confesses he
lied about Cameron calling and then Vince pulls one over on him by saying he's
worried about himself, he's thinking about quitting and living with Mandy. Ari
is about to have a heart attack and even Eric fell for it. Seems
they both forgot Vince's main skill is acting. Later Ari decides the best course
of action is to get Vince treated for sexual addiction. Eric doesn't know what
the hell to say to that and Vince tells him to make it up as he goes along. He
makes up a crazy story that Vince is driving north and is out of control and
he's chasing him, he needs Ari's help. Ari is supposed to be going home to keep
his wife from killing his mom and he agrees to turn around and help - even
though it's 7 hours away! Seems like revenge for Ari's trick with the painting.
Great stuff.
Episode 21
This episode has MM's best scene in the
series and one of his best ever. Terrence has had enough of Ari and wants to
regain control of his company. He plays a cat and mouse game with Ari about
where to meet. Neither wants to go to the other's office, so they meet on
neutral ground - a large conference room. Terrence sits on the opposite side of
the table from Ari and he's there when Ari comes in. Terrence plays it all cool
like he's going to make Ari an offer he can't refuse. It's so classic that when
Terrence is writing, Ari tries to peek and Terrence hides what he's doing. He
writes in secret and then hands it to Ari. Ari is expecting to see a big
salary number and instead it reads "Nothing" with multiple exclamation
points. It's an awesome scene. MM plays the sly evil boss so well really
smacking Ari over the head. Then later Terrence kicks Ari out and says for everyone
to see what a traitor looks like. Not only does he totally flush Ari down the
toilet, he inspires loyalty. Everyone agrees to stay with Terrence instead of
Ari.
The guys start out with betting on what Eric will do when
they push him up against the wall and Eric comes through. He is so glad he
didn't have to though. It's funny stuff to see the way good friends would bust
on each other like in real life.
Malcolm's first scene in the episode is very short, but it's
great. Ari comes to a meeting late and Terrence says he's not allowed there. Ari
can't believe it, it's the first time in years Terrence has shown up for a
meeting and he kicks him out. It's just such great stuff because for the whole
show we she how crazy Ari is and how every one has to answer to him. Now Malcolm
gets to put him in his place, there's no one better to do it.
The guys see Mandy and her ex back together and know it's
trouble. So they follow them to try to get some proof. Drama uses his cell phone to
take pictures and of course they come out like crap. Vince goes to see Mandy and
she lies to him, but he doesn't know it. Eric is willing to risk losing his
friendship with Vince by telling him what's going on. Sloan has a good scene
with Eric warning him that if he does he'll lose him. This sets up a great scene
with Ari on the phone. He tries to pump Eric for information, figuring that
Sloan said something to him. Eric then says he'll ask her and Ari goes nuts. He
wanted it to be a secret, unless she knows something. It's so funny how crazy he
gets, then back to normal, for him, then crazy again. Anything that he thinks
will help his case.
After Ari gets dismissed he has another one of those great off
the wall speeches about silence. Anything that Lloyd tries to say or ask he just
shushes him. Then Ari suddenly remembers his fail safe plan in case of
emergency. The only problem is that Lloyd is new and has no idea what Ari's
talking about and he won't explain it to him. Lloyd is supposed to take an
envelope to 8 agents and give them the code "tsetse fly". The whole
thing self destructs because the agents don't know what the code, password or
plan was, they either forgot or don't care. It turns out Ari is hung out to dry
and has no allies. When Ari goes to the rendezvous and is alone and knows he's
done. Terrence found out and fires him in front of everyone.
Vince is totally oblivious to what's going on with Mandy and
the guys need more proof. They tell him about Chris and she still lies to him
about it. They go to Blockbuster to find out what they rented and they know it's
trouble. This leads to a funny moment when
Drama learns he was on Celebrity Justice for flipping out with the golf club.
You'd think he would be upset, but it's just the opposite.
Ari can only convince Lloyd to come with him, but he has to
promise to be nice first. Ari, true to form can't do that, he'll just apologize
every time he pisses Lloyd off. Things go from bad to worse when not only do
they cut Ari's phone off, they take his car back. Ari tries yelling, persuasion,
anything to try to get something out of this, then only winds up hurting his
hand when he gets mad.
Thankfully it all finally comes to a head with Vince and
Mandy when she tells him she's going back to Chris. Strangely enough, Vince
seems OK with it. He doesn't cry or carry on. Eric learns Ari is gone and that
is shocking, but even worse Vince doesn't want to Aquaman anymore proving he's
still a baby, even if he doesn't act broken up over Mandy.
Ari gets totally drunk and Lloyd has to drive him home in his
car which looks like a gay race car. Ari doesn't know what to do or say and
thinks he's finished. Lloyd cheers him up a bit and we see Ari and his wife get
a bit passionate for this first time.
This episode really had it all like a season ending cliff
hanger. Everything is left hanging, but for some reason, there is still one more
episode to go in the season.
Episode 22
Once again there's only one scene with
Malcolm. Sloan hooks Eric up with her dad and basically offers him Ari's job.
He's impressed that Eric cares about people instead of seeing them as a
commodity. Is Terrence sincere or was he just testing Eric? It's a good little
scene, but a let down after his explosive confrontation with Ari last week.
The fake Daily Variety has a perfect cheesy phrase cover
using Ari's name. It's referenced later when Eric can't believe Ari didn't tell
his wife he was fired. He simply says she doesn't read it. I find it hard to
believe that she doesn't have a snooty friend or enemy all too willing to fill
her in. Poor Lloyd, the only one loyal to Ari gets mocked on because of his garish
car.
Everything with Vince has completely fallen apart. He's
being a total baby, a complete idiot and is willing to throw away everything -
his friends and his career because Mandy dumped him. It's interesting how Eric
and Turtle have moved on to new careers because they see Vince as over. Drama is
screwed though because his agent won't give him the time of day.
Turtle and Drama make a good team, I could see them getting
their own spin-off if the show ended. Surprisingly Vince says he'll stay with
Ari, even though Ari is a pariah with nothing. But even Ari doesn't want Vince
if he won't do Aquaman, he'll be too cold, probably labelled difficult to work
with, maybe even sued. Ari can't believe Vince is throwing Eric under the buss
over Mandy. It's funny since Ari is always the one without a a heart and he's
offended by Vince. It is weird how the show's main character is really a jerk
and all the people who swirl around him are much more interesting and likeable.
Then we see how rock bottom Ari is. He sets up his office in
a Starbucks type place and has to hand out tokens to his potential clients to
use the bathroom. When it looks like things can't get any worse for Ari he finds
out Eric has been offered a job with Terrence. It's a real blow to his ego to
get replaced with someone he knows and who has no experience.
Vince tries to get Eric to call Cameron for him to say he's
off the film. After Eric leaves he tries to get Ari to do it and both of them
force Vince to do it himself. Finally Mr. Snob has to do his own dirty work.
It's his fault for screwing it all up in the first place, so it's fitting.
Turtle and Drama give Vince the silent treatment which really pisses him off.
It's funny and Vince gets pissed off that everyone around him wants nothing to
do with him anymore. Just when things can't look any worse for Vince he tries to
drive and crashes the car in the driveway. Then Eric tells him off completely
and leaves. It's great to see Eric really hit Vince over the head about what a
baby he's being and he just can't accept the fact that someone said no to him.
Now everyone is saying no to him and he can't deal with any of it.
Probably the best scene in the episode is when Drama goes to
see his agent and he breaks the news to him that with Vince no longer with the
firm, Drama is out too. Pauly Shore is there and is loving this revenge for him
getting tossed out of the Playboy Mansion. Instead of busting up the place, what
does Drama do? He's steals Adam's TV. It's such a crazy, funny, unexpected move.
Ari surprises everyone by telling Eric how important Vince is
to him and he shouldn't throw their long friendship away. But is Ari really just
desperate to land his star client all for himself to reopen his own company?
That's what I think. He's just setting them all up for his own needs.
Vince goes to break it to Cameron that he's quitting and he
sees all the movie posters in the hallway to his office. The Abyss, Titanic,
Aliens, True Lies, The Terminator and on and on. Vince knows he's destroying his
career without saying anything. It's funny how Cameron goes on and on like a
little kid about the film. Vince doesn't really know or care anything about the
character, he just wanted to work with Cameron in the first place. I thought it
was total corn about Cameron saying he had a connection to Vince like he did
with Schwarzenegger. They haven't really spent any time together. Cameron has no
idea what Vince has been going through, I see no connection between them.
They leave us hanging for a minute, then Vince breaks it to
them he couldn't quit. He tires to play the martyr like he couldn't let the guys
or Cameron down. More like he woke up about his chance to be a superstar. He
will even get his own action figure. I would've liked to have seen a close up of
it because it looked generic. Then the season ends with them driving away and we
see a large Aquaman poster on the side of a building.
Episode 23
What happened to the good old days
where shows ended for the summer and came back in the fall? These cable shows
like to make us wait and wait. In this case it was over 9 months before we got a
new episode. On the one hand that's great since HBO is so lame otherwise and I
just cancel my subscription until the show comes back. To make matters worse
starting at the beginning of June HBO was advertising the show all over TV,
radio, magazines and the Internet. I literally couldn't wait for the show to start, not
because I wanted to see it as much as I wanted the vicious assault of never
ending ads to go away.
Some loose ends have been completely ignored in this episode.
What happened with Vince and Mandy Moore? No answer. She's never mentioned and
is not at the premiere. This is a little weak. What happened with Turtle's turn
as rap manager? No answer. It's like it never happened. What about
Eric and Sloan? No show. Eric does mention he's taking her to the premiere, but
he doesn't when plans change. In the end though it doesn't really matter these
things weren't included since it was still funny. A new question does arrive
though. Shauna is obviously very pregnant, but this issue isn't addressed in any
way.
The episode starts basically busting on Drama which I like.
It's usually the older brother that busts on the younger one, but in this show
it is turned around. Then we see Ari in his new office and he's getting all
crazy and nervous about his first meeting with Vince. He finds dust and yells
for Lloyd and asks what it is and Lloyd gets off a good line saying it's his
finger. We learn really fast that things aren't going well for Ari, the cleaning
crew is on strike, the location isn't great, the elevators don't work and the clients have to pay for
parking. Ari gets off a great line about how Drama needs an agent that cares
about him, meaning he doesn't care. It sounds like a compliment to Drama, but
it's a great putdown. Then it gets into the politics of Vince needing a good
looking woman on his arm at the premiere. This is when Mandy Moore should've
been at least mentioned in some way. Instead Vince decides he wants his mom
there which Ari likes and debuts his new catchphrase "boom." It seems
like a ploy for Vince, but it turns to something else. Since his mom doesn't
travel he makes it like a challenge to be able to charm her into coming. While
Drama is completely crazed about all this Vince doesn't spend any time using it
against him. Then when it all falls apart he's bummed and doesn't want to take
anyone else. He only wanted her there. It seems that for the first time he was
actually thinking about someone else instead of himself.
This leads to a fun scene at a radio station. It's very well
done because it goes back and forth between Vince, his mom and the radio crew.
Meanwhile there is another story going on in the booth with Shauna, Drama and
Eric debating if mom will come and the guys trying to hook up with the video
girls. The guys need more tickets though which leads to
another great Ari scene. He's working out on the floor of his office and tells
Lloyd he's not to be bothered when he's at the gym. Things get even worse for
Ari when Eric overhears that Ari has no money. It's great banter with Lloyd
interrupting Ari, Ari giving it back to him and then having it all fall apart on
his lap. When he tells Lloyd to give Vince two of James Woods extra tickets we
learn that not only is he in the movie, but this
leads to a hysterical confrontation with Woods and Drama. Meanwhile Ari has to
beg his wife for money and we find out she's already made multiple loans to him
and she doesn't believe in Vince. She gets off a great line that a check from
his funeral insurance would bounce.
Drama makes the mistake of telling Woods off, not knowing
he's right there listening and he does come over for his tickets and threatens
Drama with all kinds of harm and violence if he doesn't get the tickets. Drama
knows there is little he can do to back up the threats, but decides to trick him
in the end. Woods is great playing "himself" here as a total loon.
Turtle comes off as completely delusional thinking that if
Vince gets Jessica Biel that somehow she'll want Turtle?! He can't even get
regular girls. All of them are turned off by him. Eric comes up with a plan, but
we don't know what it is until it happens. The guys all have to sacrifice their
dates to bring their moms to the premiere because if all the moms are coming
it'll shame Rita into coming too. Of course Turtle is the most mad
since it was a rare chance for him to score.
Ari comes home and is even in more trouble when he can't pay
for his own suit and his wife curses at him. Ari gets off a great line when the
neighbor overhears it and looks at him. It's classic that Ari doesn't miss a
beat.
Then it's the premiere and while there is no sign of Mandy,
Cameron is there. He has a funny line to a reporter that they made Vince breathe
under water and the guy buys it. When Woods sees Drama we think sparks are going
to fly, but instead Woods grabs him and almost compliments him by messing his
hair and says he's the real star. It
almost looks like they are best friends if we didn't see the previous
confrontation. It makes Woods look even loonier though, so it's more fun. Then before
you know it the whole thing is over, no shots of the
film, no reactions to it after wards. The show always leaves you wanting more.
Episode 24
Ari is more twisted than ever calling Eric up
at 5am and looking for phone sex, but when his wife wants actual sex he can't
perform! This starts the ball rolling at a massive opening weekend for Aquaman
that soon goes to talk of being the biggest opening in history. Downstairs Vince
wants to go the valley to see the film and this starts Drama off about not
wanting to go there. We learn why soon enough, being from the east has made him
extra sensitive to the heat. In other words he can't take it which leads to a
lot of fun at his expense.
When Ari gets to work he's not dealing with the heat so well
either, even better he starts out goofing on Lloyd about being gay asking if he
has a butt plug. It goes into an interesting turn where Ari admits he's scared
of his wife. It's starting to seem like he only married her for her money and
isn't attracted to her anymore. It's a switch because at the end of the last
episode they were all lovely dovey. It could be that when he's stressed out he
can't perform sexually which is also mentioned. It all goes downhill when Lloyd
schedules a marriage counseling session for him behind his back. He also gives
him a figure for luck and he says he'll try anything which leads to an awesome
scene later when Ari smashes it with a coffee pot in front of Lloyd when he
thinks everything is falling apart. It's pure gold when Ari loses his mind and
gets vicious about it.
When the guys are driving to the valley there is a
temperature gauge inside the car that keeps going up and the guys count it off
to make Drama nuts. He's in the back dying and has a towel over his head. It's
so funny to see him fall apart when no one else is affected. Then Ari continues
his downward spiral when Eric tells him Vince is thinking Spider-man money now.
It shouldn't bother him as much as it does, but because of everything else going
wrong he loses it again. The worse things go for Ari, the better it is for us
because he gets crazier and crazier and it's just so much fun to watch.
One thing that doesn't make any sense is that they need to
bribe a theater to hold seats for the star? You think the publicity alone would
be enough for them, maybe even give them seats in the projection booth so they
wouldn't have to worry about being hassled. Vince is just sitting there with
everyone else and doesn't even have a disguise. Of course if they snuck in after
it started in the dark no one would know and if they snuck out before it ended
no one would see them, but they didn't indicate that was the case or even the
plan. When the lights went up if Turtle said, "oh no, know they'll
recognize Vince, we're screwed" it would've made the scene work out great.
But with Turtle and Drama confronting the guy who got up they were only bringing
attention to him in the first place. So the guys shouldn't have been surprised
when Vince got mobbed and should've had a better exit plan.
Outside the rolling blackout has gotten them nowhere. They
are caught in an endless traffic jam. When Ari tells them Spider-man is in range
Vince decides to celebrate and we learn more of Drama's backstory. He came out
to Los Angeles first and had to sell his Harley Davidson motorcycle to pay the
bills after some pilots didn't work out. One thing that remains to be seen is if
Vince really bought the four bikes. We see no shipment of them to his house and
they are never mentioned again. The line about Vince and Drama going to Michael
Madsen also seems to be a throw away line as that is not brought up again.
When Ari is in counseling what more could you want then him
cracking jokes and blowing his wife off for Vince. I keep waiting for her to
leave him and tell him to go sleep with Vince. Then before you know it Ari will
have to move in with Vince. This could make for an excellent story arc I would
love to see. It ends on a great note when the power goes out and a broke Ari
wants to get a discount on the session.
An exchange with two comic book geeks in the theater turns
into something completely unexpected. They follow Vince and invite him to a
party they can't get into without him. Instead of blowing them off like you
would expect, he decides to go maybe because they were the first fans to
compliment him on the film. At the party the guy throwing it asks who let the
old guy in, another in a series of endless goofs on Drama's age. One thing
I don't understand is why Ari always tells Eric not to tell Vince the bad news
knowing damn well he tells him everything. He must want him to know or else he
wouldn't tell Eric in the first place. Vince goes from not caring about the
numbers to caring too much. This shows him again to have an obsessive
personality like how he was with Mandy. He decides he'd rather get drunk than
worry about the film gross, but it's more likely to numb the pain that he
might've failed.
Once again Ari's wife makes a move on him and Ari blows her
off for Vince. She should ask him if he's turned gay on her. So Vince gets
wasted, Drama gets beat up and Turtle gets rejected by yet another girl. All
seems lost. Then Ari shows up and says only the polls were affected by the
blackouts which is convenient, even though we saw otherwise with the guys in the
theater. Is Ari lying? Well, we don't know. Either way he'll have the #1 film of
the week. It's great how Vince and Eric can do whatever they want to Ari and he
just takes it. Like last year they played a joke on Ari to get him to drive 7
hours for nothing. Here they have him thrown in the pool, then have no problem
asking him for a ride after Vince gives their car to the dorks and worst of all
Ari says yes so he doesn't have to go home to his wife! What's wrong with him?
What will the guys do without a car? Just buy another one? They could all ride
on the motorcycles if they ever show up again.
Episode 25
It looks like Eric doesn't need to get a new
car as the dorks must've returned it. It's back, but no explanation about how
easy or hard it was for them to reclaim. A major mistake is the whole Aquaman
the Ride plot. Ari says of course it'll go underwater and all that. Since the
ride doesn't really exist, there is nothing they can do but use an existing
ride. All we seen in the end is a basic rollercoaster, no water, nothing fancy.
Once again more age jokes about Drama at the restaurant, but he's the one that
started it. It's even funnier that he doesn't care this time, as long as Eric
thinks he's a celebrity. The cool thing is Ari uses Drama's line later
connecting the scene. He either thought it was a good line or else he was so
desperate he didn't care that he was quoting Drama.
Upon returning home we learn Drama stole a doggy bag from
another patron at the restaurant. They could've milked it a little more, but
they go right to the front door being open. An old friend from Queens broke into
the house. Dom looks and reminds me of rapper Fat Joe. So how did he beat the
advanced security system we know Vince has when we saw James Woods on camera not
two episodes ago? It's not like the guy is a master thief. Eric says he was just
a trouble maker and went to jail for assaulting a cop. He seems like too much a
of a low level felon. Later when he steals a candy bar for no reason at all -
except to just steal it we learn there's no way this guy could've pulled it off.
There should've been a comment by Eric that if Dom could beat the security
system they better get an upgrade or stalkers will be next.
They really throw this new character at us from out of
nowhere. There could've been a throwaway line about visiting Dom in jail when
they went back east for the filming of Queens Blvd. I guess the writers hadn't
thought about adding a 5th member of the group back then. Of course Dom is only
going to cause conflict and trouble and can't possibly work out. If he lasts
more than two episodes I would be shocked. He's not a likeable character, but
that is the point. I think is would be a great twist
next episode if learn that Dom actually escaped from jail or broke parole. They
way he talks he makes it seem like he's legitimately there, but when he says he
had a lot of loose ends to tie up when he got out of jail, what would that be
since he's been in for 8 years?
Ari is getting it from all sides lately. Not only is
everything going wrong at work, it's going bad at home not only with his wife,
but his daughter too. His daughter somehow
hooked up with a child star. There is no indication on how this happened, maybe
Sara goes to some school for rich kids and actors? But how often would a child
star go to school anyway? They get tutored on the set. Ari has to run home early to check on her and then
throws the kid out because he's rich, famous and he doesn't trust him. But even
though the kid is only 13 he talks and deals with Ari like they are on the same
level. Ari misses a chance to get one over on Max though. Max has a DVD of
scenes from the movie he's making. He leaves it behind, Ari could get him in
trouble by leaking it to someone and blaming it on Max.
Eric is instantly suspicious of Dom and rightly so. When he
realizes that Vince is going to stick by Dom he just stands back and watches. He
loves it when soon after Turtle and Drama crack and want Dom gone as well. But
it's up to Vince, so they'll all have to sweat it out. We also learn that Dom
went down for Vince's drugs which may or may not have hurt his chances at
acting. Also it means Vince thinks he owes Dom and we keep him around longer
than the guys would like.
Somehow Ari has gotten himself onto Sara's buddy list without
her knowing it. Most likely he's talking about AOL Messenger. I don't know how that works. You can hide yourself online if you
don't want to be seen, but if he was on her list she would see his name there,
just listing him as offline.
Maybe he pretended to be a kid to get her to accept him so he could watch what
she was doing. What a sneak. It's not like the old days where we would hide
under the bed with the radio or the phone. Now kids are hiding in bed with
laptops and going online. One part that definitely didn't add up was she shut it
down in two seconds after hearing Ari. Unless she just cut the power instead of
shutting down safely that would never work.
Everyone is Hollywood is either trying to be an actor or
peddling a script and Dom is no different. I wonder if Eric will ever read it.
If it sucks he's screwed because he won't want to have to tell him that. He
could lie and tell him to get an agent. Even better he could tell him to meet
with Ari and Ari would be the one to have to squirm from Dom's threats.
We get the first nude scene of the season when Eric is awoken
by the sound of a girl having really wild sex with Dom. Unfortunately the next
nude scene is of Dom's ass. Of course it is all ass backwards. If Dom was in
jail for 8 years, how could he hold out so long with his first girl? Double
condoms maybe? The first signs of strain come right after when Dom wants to cook
and Drama is worried since that's his job. Right after he wants to drive and
takes Turtle's job. All he has to do is ask Vince and he says yes, so the guys
are screwed. Drama gets more pissed when Dom uses his deodorant without
permission because Dom is acting like he's still in the barry place. It's funny when
the three guys are cramped in the backseat pushing each other and trading
insults.
At Great Adventure Dom is really crass with Shauna who still
doesn't mention who the father of her child is or anything. Even worse Shauna's
assistant thinks Turtle is even grosser. I don't know why Dom flipped out so bad
about the cameraman. It's not like he was the only one there taking pictures,
especially at a ride opening. Vince must've made Dom his security before they
got there to make him act that way. Right after Dom yells at the crowd to make
noise for Vince. His new found position would explain it. Drama tells Eric three
times that Dom stole a candy bar, it's so funny, he's like a little kid, but
Turtle won't back him up.
Ari totally gets pushed around by Max at the park. It's
great. So much for Ari forbidding Sara to see him, there they are together. It's
another example of how Ari is not the powerful super agent he was last year. Ari
does get a dig on Eric's height again, the first one in a while, but he gets
even giving Ari a barf bag. On the ride Dom sits next to Ari and goofs on him.
The editing is screwed up a bit as Ari passes out, then we see him up and awake
in the next shot, looks like a double was inserted. Once again it just ends like
that. People will hate Dom, but I don't mind because it's not the point. He is
there to shake things up, not to be a permanent member of the show.
Episode 26
I find it hard to believe that the second his alarm goes
off, Eric just rolls right out of bed. It should take some time and he should
have some fatigue at least. Who jumps right out bed like that? Anyway it's a
funny scene with him trying to get even with Ari for waking him up the day of
the premiere. Too bad for him Ari is already up and peddling on an exercise bike
in his bedroom like a madman. He says Eric woke up his wife and kid, but I find
it hard to believe she could sleep through his mad peddling. Ari comes up with
one of the grossest insults of all time calling Eric a cunt
mussel and even his wife can't believe he said it. It's a great scene, but why
does Ari want to wait until 11:30 for the meeting?
It's great how the guys are trying to run out on Dom and
leave him behind. Dom shows up and calls Ari the Jew agent. It makes me wonder
if this is an indication of how the guys acted back in Queens when they weren't
famous. Ari goofs on Dom and he gets mad and Ari tries to blame it on Lloyd
getting turned on, but even Lloyd is disgusted by him. Looks like no one on the
show likes Dom.
I would've liked to hear Ari describe more scripts because
his descriptions were hilarious especially a retard in a red cross tent. What
could that plot be? I bet a lot of meetings are like this when people are taking
jobs for the money. Who cares about the script, how much is the salary? Ari goes
through an elaborate demonstration to get to Escobar and Dom shows he's far from
cured by wanting to dive right into the cocaine. Turtle can't believe it and
asks if this is what always goes on without them. Dom figures out right away
it's fake though. I didn't really get why he said he would have to clear
it with is parole officer to go to Jerry's, he's already 3000 miles from home,
what difference would it make if he traveled any farther?
Ari says they need to get Dom a shirt and they actually do
it. Another line I didn't get was Drama wanted a shirt, yet Dom got it. Like
there is only 1 of those shirts in the entire store? Vince does another of his
classic actor fakeouts by telling Eric he agrees with Dom about just taking a
role for the most money instead of the role he really wants. Will he ever learn?
I wonder why they decided to pick a movie about Pablo Escobar as Vince's dream
project. There have been a few movies about him already. That's why Aquaman is
so perfect for them to pick and now there are talks of an actual Aquaman film
getting made - talk about art imitating life.
How did Vince score a helicopter without Eric knowing, or did
he know? Vince has never been the kind of guy to get anything done on his own.
Dom has a great line about how he feels he really made something of himself. It
shows what an idiot he is, he hasn't done anything, it's all a handout from
Vince and he's still locked in his criminal ways. I love how even Ari makes fun
of Drama. He did it before, but he gets a great line off at the party. Would
what Ari do if Vince told him no more picking on Drama, that's part of the new
way? Could be fun.
Unlike before Jerry isn't an actual celebrity cameo. It's not
like there are many producers famous enough for people to know who they are on
sight. I like how everyone tries to reign Dom in the whole time, but he turns
out to be the one who sells Vince to Jerry. Jerry wanted a regular guy who isn't
Hollywood and likes that Vince still hangs out with the same schmucks he grew up
with. It's a great scene and if you watch it again check out the faces of each
guy as Dom's talking. They are all nervous and looking around not knowing what
to expect. Only Vince is amused. Even better is Drama says the story was about
him, not Vince and everyone says he's nuts.
Everything goes from great to crap when Jerry's original
Shrek doll comes up missing. This is the beginning of the end of Dom on the
show. Everyone knows he did it, they just need proof. I know almost everyone
hates Dom as a a character, but he doesn't bother me though. I like how he came
in and shook things up. The guys have it to easy and it's a nice change to have
them all on their toes. Dom just takes over and there's nothing they can do. I
knew he wouldn't last, so it didn't matter to me that he was there. He was like
a tornado, he came in, did his damage and then he was gone. Good riddance to
him, but I liked everyone being overwhelmed by Dom doing whatever he wanted and
not caring about any of them. The only thing that didn't make sense was he had
no problem stealing the doll, but asked Vince for money. Why not just take it?
Was he really that loyal to him? Why didn't he just ditch the doll after the
party? He kept it with him the whole time for some reason. He's the one who said
no body, no crime. So if he got rid of it, no one could pin it on him. Ari had a
good point about him not thinking Jerry wouldn't have a security system. Well,
then why didn't he!? Especially with 300 people in his house there's bound to be
a few people that aren't above board. Vince pulls out his second fakeout of the
episode and his best one since the talk about the BJ scene in Queen's Blvd. He
tells a huge fake story to get Dom to confess. He couldn't prove it, but got Dom
to think he knew he was lying. Plus how would the guys explain to Ari what
happened to Dom? The doll turns up, but he disappears? Anyone could figure that
one out.
Dom insults Drama's cooking and I was surprised none of the
guys defended him. Do they really think he's a bad chef then? Drama has a good
line about just getting rid of Dom's shirts and he'll never know. He goes
through all the trouble about burying them. Why not just put them in the
laundry? Well he does notice, but they just lie about it. Eric and Ari come up
with a plan that backfires about the security camera footage. I thought it was
funny that he brought a tape of his daughter's party. I thought they were going
to have some goofy computer made footage of Dom they made. Drama is such a
goofball that he want to see if he's on the tape!
So they leave Dom set up somewhere nearby meaning he could
always return, but what's the point? Most likely he'll go to jail without Vince
to cover for him. At least Dom never said Vince owed him for going to jail.
Seems he knew it was all his fault. Everything ends on a convenient down note
when Aquaman 2 and Medellin are scheduled at the same time. There was no scene
that Vince was locked into doing the sequel. Ari mentioned at the Playboy
Mansion his price would go up for each sequel, but it was never confirmed that
he made a three picture deal. It'll be fun to get back to just the four guys and
see how it pans out.
Rating: 9/10
Episode 27
Now it seems Eric didn't get his Maseratti back even
though he had it before? Or is he saying he's getting it because Vince felt bad
for giving it away for a while? Something isn't right. It feels like this was
supposed the second the episode of the season. What about the motorcycles? Did
Vince ever really buy them? Two other questions are answered - what happened
with Saigon and how did Max meet Sara. This should've been shown before. Max
lives right next door to Ari, so that makes sense. Turtle didn't do anything
with Saigon, Vince just convinces the DJ who interviewed him in the first
episode of the season to play Saigon and then everyone wants him. It works out,
but no mainstream radio station is playing demos by unknown artists. That's not
how the business works. It's all formatted and formulated by the Billboard
charts.
There is so much great stuff in the first two minutes that it
doesn't matter if the episode was the shortest ever at a measly 22 minutes. Ari
gets another dig at Eric's height about him test driving a Matchbox car. Vince
pulls one over on Turtle so he thinks he isn't getting a new car like everyone
else. Ari says his wife thinks he's gay from all the Spanish messages Vince is
leaving and Ari and Max stare each other down. Such a huge amount of great stuff
packed together tight.
So the studio hands Vince another million after he buys the
cars, so now he can buy more. He gets 65 days for Medellin, but it turns out
it's not enough. Even worse Alan knows this and sent him on a fool's errand so
he would fail. When it works out like how they did for Tom Hanks and Castaway,
Alan point blank tells Vince he can't do the film. He's ready to walk anyway
since it has no script and the worst director since Schumacher attached to the
project. I love how they trash Michael Bay, he deserves every word of it. It's
the second time they've busted on Kevin Smith too, someone on the show must
think he's overrated.
Turtle and Drama both want Ari to represent them and
surprisingly Ari agrees. It's probably since Vince saved Ari's ass by going with
him when he left or else he wouldn't have anything. I'm not sure why he would
agree to do all the work for Turtle for free that he's supposed to do himself,
but we'll see how that turns out. Maybe this will splitt up the entourage if
Turtle has to go on tour. He also agrees to take Drama on, but it also remains
to be seen what he'll do for him. The scene is great because Turtle and Drama
fight each other the whole way to get their first like a couple of teenagers.
The best is when Drama tells on Turtle for not shutting his phone off. It seems
like Drama is the only one in the group, maybe the whole state of California
that doesn't have a cell phone. Good for him.
We also learn that Ari has a maid from El Salvador. Where did
she come from all of a sudden? How did he hang onto her with all his money
troubles? Either way she is loyal to Ari by spying on Sara and reporting to him
and lying to Ari's wife about it. It's great stuff how Ari is even more
manipulative than we ever thought. He totally catches her lying on the phone and
finds a way to get rid of Max once and for all. Penny Marshall makes a cameo and
looks really bad. But Ari shows off his acting skills by selling Max to her to
get rid of him. Once again Ari is looking for an unromantic BJ from his wife and
is shot down. How long before he's caught going to a hooker?
Ari surprises us once again and shows a real honest, caring
side with Vince when he wants off Aquaman. He got him the role he wanted at no
benefit to himself, but scheduling didn't work, sometimes life doesn't work out.
He convinces him it's better to stick with the contract and be a man of his word
then doing what he really wants.
The final scene is great because Turtle takes Drama out to
eat at the same time Vince takes Alan out. Drama is all bummed that he's now low
man on the totem pole and that when he first came out to LA he was on top. It
ends with a cliffhanger worthy of a season ender. Will Vince ditch his contract
or will get $20 million? Will they let him do Medellin after all? Will he get
blacklisted in Hollywood? I can't imagine Alan buckling under. After all it's
business. They replaced Batman plenty of times to keep the money rolling in. I
bet he sues Vince if he doesn't do the film and replaces him with someone up and
coming and Vince is screwed, but he thinks he can still do Medellin. I see Alan
trying to get that tied up in litigation or something to screw Vince even worse.

Episode 28
They really went all out to make a CGI Drama inserted into
the recent Godfather game. It looks perfect. It's great how he's so in love with
himself that he sits there and plays it all day. We also learn more of his
history in that he did a few episodes of A Different World. Drama is all
down because Ari hasn't called and we learn soon after that Ari doesn't care
about him with another classic line about sticking needles into his penis. It
all starts out with the guys abusing Ari over Vince wanting 20 million. They
completely blow him off and hang him out to dry with the studio, not knowing the
bad news that's coming their way and not caring.
It's funny how Drama has as much luck with the ladies as
Turtle. He hasn't seem to score since Comic Con. Whatever happened to Vanessa
anyway? Soon the plot switches to Eric's possibility of doing a threesome
and the guys are all for it and basically push him into it. The scene with Drama
on the phone with Lloyd is one of the funniest ever in the show where Ari wants
to avoid Drama like a disease and gets stuck into talking to him because Vince
is blowing him off. Hold for Ari, lost him, hold for Vince, lost him.
It's great to see Ari forced to kiss serious ass when it
comes to Alan now that he's fallen from grace. Behind his back he's doing all
these great moves to release his rage like pretending he's fisting him. When he
learns he can't talk to Vince until he gets Drama a job he really loses it. He
hilariously slams the phone down over and over, then runs into the staff
meeting. We learn he now has a large staff, it seems things are going well for
him since when he left his old job and only Vince was with him. He unleashes
another classic line about how he doesn't care what job they get Drama even if
it's getting raped by silver backed apes - where do they come up with this
stuff!? More Ari fun ensues when he blasts Eric with filthy text messages when
he won't answer the phone.
Eric learns the guys are right and a threesome isn't out of
the question, he just can't have sex with the other girl. The guys still help to
prepare to go for it. It keeps getting worse for Ari when Alan calls him early
and he has to hide. It also makes Drama look really bad because no one can find
him a job even with a reward for doing it thrown in. Only Lloyd is able to get
anywhere and the best he can do is an audition. Ari continues to lose it
and more hilarity ensues when he tries to destroy his monitor and Lloyd reminds
him it's a rental. It looks like Ari's doing really well, but he's still in debt
up to his eyeballs for all this stuff. It explains why he's so desperate to get
Vince signed for 12.5 million for A2, because that percentage might just put him
over the top into profitability. It's never stated openly, but it's definitely
hinted about.
Eric is all nervous and gets over dressed and over prepared
and the guys continue to give him a hard time about it. It turns out to be the
world's worst timing for Vince's career. Eric wants to be around when Ari
arrives, but Vince sends him on his way and seals his own doom. It doesn't
matter how low Ari has fallen, he still gives Drama a hard time. I wonder what
his underlying hatred of him is. He really doesn't seem to like him at all.
Maybe it's because he just sees him as a has been hanger on, which he basically
is. Another great moment is when Ari thinks Eric is smuggling Vince out in his
car.
It all goes down like I thought it would, Vince loses Aquaman
and Medellin, basically getting blackballed. Will he get sued? What will happen
to his career? Once again this is like a cliffhanger, but there is still a long
way to go in the season, so he has plenty of chances to get back on top. It's
also great how for once Ari actually needs Eric there to talk sense into Vince.
For all the insults he hurls at him, he does really need him every now and then.
Everything goes well for Eric with the threesome, except he
wakes up holding on to Tori and starts to fall for her. It's incredibly unlikely
to me that three people could all fall asleep at the same time. They were
drinking, but come on. The whole sex all night thing is just for bad songs, so
that isn't a possibility either.
It all seems excessive to me. Why does he need a manager and
an agent? It seems like if Vince is hot then Eric could be both, but then again
I wouldn't want to lose Ari who is the real star of the show with all his scene
stealing. To prove this even more it's only Lloyd who gets anywhere and he's
just a secretary. This seems to be the underlying message - agents are arrogant
and useless. I also wonder why Ari is so hard on Alan's assistant. Maybe they
have a history? There are no cameos this time, but the laughs keep coming and
coming. It's incredible how much they can pack into one 24 minute episode. Just
amazing writing.

Episode 29
It's funny and ironic that the show
decided to have Aquaman beat Spider-man's record breaking opening weekend record
and two weeks later Pirates of the Caribbean 2 shattered that record. So Aquaman
was the top movie of all time for only 2 weeks, too bad the season is all filmed
or they could mention that. It would've tied in great with Vince getting fired
from Aquaman 2.
I can't believe the guys tell each other everything, no
matter how embarrassing or private. Even Eric who usually stays out of it tells
all about his threesome. This leads to some great goofing which is my favorite
part of the show - the endless back and forth. This time all of them bust on
him, even Vince. Eric also needs them to go with him because he's afraid to be
alone with Tori which makes him look even worse.
Ari surprised me by checking in on Vince, he shows some
actual concern here because he doesn't have any business to discuss. There's no
word on what Vince's next job will be though. Then he gets out an amazing line saying
Aquaman 2 will be worse than Speed 2. The writers have really done their
homework since Speed 2 is probably the worst sequel of all time.
We then learn that 9 months have passed since the end of
season 2 and it's time for Malcolm to make his season 3 debut. Unfortunately
there isn't as much of him as we'd like, but once again he goes head to head with
Ari and while it seems Ari has the upper hand, he pulls a great switch at the
end getting Ari to agree to take $11 million instead of 12. It goes back and
forth so fast and it shows why Terrance is the master. After Ari does some
classic celebration moves and shows that no matter how happy is he can still be
a bastard by insulting his lawyer.
At the charity setup Turtle gets off a great ding on Eric
about the girls working well together and Vince steps in it by saying he'll help
any way he can. He gets to be celebrity beefcake in an auction. He's not happy
about it, but can't back out now. Eric is glad to see Tori, but she blows him
off, so he gets a complex that he did something wrong and wants to apologize to
her.
Proving that Ari mouths off to anyone and everyone he arrives
where his wife is having lunch with her friends and manages to insult them all
right to their faces in seconds. He is crazy and relentless. In the end he does
offer to pay for the meal, but he leaves so how will they bill him? Ari has huge
plans with the money from Terrance. He plans on opening the biggest agency in
the city to put him out of business. At first his wife can't believe it. It's a
huge, empty, under construction wide open office space. She agrees, but doesn't
like the idea of him having a Jacuzzi. We don't know if he convinces her, but
they do have sex off camera. Ari looks funny coming out all disheveled.
The romance doesn't last long because right after he mistakes her for another
woman he had sex with in college. Surprisingly she isn't upset, just disgusted.
Then he screws everything up by yanking her to the ground when his enemy Adam
Davies drives by. He doesn't want to see him coming out of the building. The
problem is he didn't see him coming out and wouldn't have thought anything of it
until he saw him dive to the ground. Now he knows he's hiding something.
There's a low level cameo at the pool with Seth Green and
soon Eric makes things even worse with Tori because she knows he's come to see
her for more than just a talk and says it's like cheating by going behind
Sloan's back. Even worse the guys hassle him for being emotional like a woman.
He didn't even have sex with Tori and already he's in love. It keeps getting
worse for Eric until he zings Drama and Turtle about their threesome and even
Vince runs from that one. Right after Eric confesses to Vince he was right about
him. Vince can't believe him, but understands, he wants something he can't have
and it's worse because he almost had it. Vince knows what he's talking about
when it comes to sex and he's got Eric pegged. The moral of the whole story is
not to have a threesome with someone you really care about.
At the party things go bad for everyone. Eric can't stand
being around Tori, Vince can't stand being hit on by old ladies, Drama strikes
out with Tori again, Ari's wife is forced to lie, Terrance has a bit of an idea
Ari is up to something and Adam knows exactly what Ari is up to. Malcolm is back
only long enough to call Ari is a prick, but I'll take it - funny stuff.
When Tori tells Eric that tonight he'll really get his
chance, he loses it. He wants Tori by herself, not with Sloan. He could get a
shot with her, but throws it away. Tori doesn't want to go behind Sloan's back
no matter what, it's quite the reversal from the jealous girlfriend role that is
usually on TV.
Vince is surprisingly quick on his feet trading barbs and
lines with the women bidding on him. He spots a waitress he likes though, so he
soon loses concern over the auction. Ari's wife is all confused about the
money they have or don't have so she lies about her knew ring to someone and
then gets mad at Ari for making her lie. He gets out the great line of ultimate
obviousness by explaining they don't have to hide in front of Terrance since
he's the one who gave them the money.
Once again it's Vince to the rescue about Eric. Eric admits
Tori is making him want to be a sexual animal and to just have down and dirty
sex with her like Vince does. He doesn't like the way he feels and runs out,
blowing his chance of being with Tori and Sloan again.
Ari wins a few vacations and Malcolm shows up again with a
line that shows he's suspicious of Ari, but it could just be a taunt. Either way
it's a brilliant way to make Ari nervous. Vince doesn't know a really old woman
has bid for him. Too bad, it could've been some great stuff showing him running
away, getting sick or even better, the actual date itself.
Eric wakes up early the next day to see Tori off. He's all
confused. He wants her, but doesn't. She somewhat jokingly offers to get on the
couch with him and he turns it down, then in the next sentence he knows they
both want it. In the end she blows him off telling him Sloan is a good friend
and he has a good thing with her so neither of them should screw it up. I think
Eric was hoping for her to be the aggressor so he wouldn't feel so guilty, but
he blows it. In the end though he wins because he doesn't lose Sloan over a few
minutes of lust. This is really an Eric episode, so it's not as good as others
since to me he is the least interesting of the guys. He's at his best trading
insults with Ari which doesn't happen this time. It's great to have Malcolm back
and I wish he was on more, but it's not the case. Either way, the show is still
at the top of it's game and great fun.

Episode 30
Back to back Malcolm, but that could be it for the season
or even the series. While that would be sad, it's a rare instance when the show
is still great even if he's not there. It's an episode of losses for everyone.
Ari loses his severance pay and his new building, Drama loses his mind, Turtle
loses his car, Billy Walsh loses his money and control of his movie, Vince loses
his chance at a big comeback and Eric gets in more trouble with Ari and company
for letting Vince give his press conference.
Lloyd is frazzled throughout the episode which means he gets
more screen time, plus it's funny to watch him struggle. Ari tries to interact
with him like he's one of the guys, but Lloyd just isn't able to do it which
gives Ari a chance to insult him more, which is great stuff.
Surprisingly Ari even goofs on Vince. It's the first time I can
remember, probably now that Vince isn't so hot anymore and cost him a pile of
money he badly needed he can get away with it. Even more strange is Ari doesn't
want him to look like he just got fired at the press conference. Vince hasn't
really seemed to care about getting fired at all, but he hasn't gotten another
job yet either. He doesn't seem anxious probably thinking he's got money in the
bank and nothing to lose. But what about the three cars he bought for the guys?
Those disappeared like the motorcycles. He's spending money fast and will be out
of it soon if he doesn't get another big role.
Drama really steals the show in this episode when he's
rehearsing in the rearview mirror and gets a ticket. He's pissed because the guy
saw him sitting there and didn't warn him about the meter. The only way it
could've been better was if Turtle warned him to keep an eye on the meter before
he went upstairs since he wanted to leave him behind. Of course if they were
both upstairs like they were supposed to be they would've gotten the ticket
anyway. He's still fuming when the guys come back and Vince certainly doesn't
care since he can afford it. With Drama it's all about the principle like when
he was at that audition and he flipped out on the guy for ignoring him in the
back. At least he didn't go after the man with a golf club like he did before.
Vince thinks it's all because he's got an audition that it makes him nuts. It's
true, but he's always a bit high strung to begin with. Then in his next scene he
really loses his mind because he's got a coupon for a free latté that they
won't honor. Once again it's the principle of the thing and he keeps arguing and
causing a scene. He's got the whole place staring at him and wondering what he's
going to do. When a man offers to pay for it he attacks him. In this situation
the manager will usually give in if someone complains loudly enough, but not
here. He completely loses track of time and the fact he has an audition and is
planning on coming back after. It's unrealistic, but funny that their car gets
towed in no time, guaranteeing Drama will be late. When he arrives and the place
his empty he hits rock bottom. He knows he's a loser, his career is finished and
he has an anger problem. When Ed calls him directly after not being able to get
through to Ari, Drama lies and says he was waiting there for an hour for him.
Classic how he quickly lies and turns everything around so he can make himself
look good. He totally forgets his speech from a minute before and lies about how
young he looks to get the role. The question is will it haunt him later when he
meets Ed? Probably not, they can put a lot of makeup on him.
Billy Walsh is also losing his mind, but for another reason.
He doesn't care that Queens Boulevard is opening big, the studio trashed the
film. Eric and Vince head over to his place to see what he means. I love how
Walsh calls Eric a suit all the time because he's the manager. They chopped up
QB and colorized it. They can't get a hold of Ari either and get themselves into
trouble just like when Eric went off to do the threesome and left Vince to
handle things with the studio.
Lloyd is so nervous and stressed from lying he's breaking out
with pimples. Ari insults him and says he doesn't want to hear his whiny voice
again, so Lloyd comes back with a note and won't talk to him. They make a great
comedy duo. When Barbara calls and Rob shows up at the same time, the cat is out
of the bag. Ari is having another Tse Tse fly moment. All his plans are crashing
down around him. Terrence is firing people and making the others sign contracts
to stay with the firm to screw Ari.
Barbara sets Ari up by taking him to lunch with Terrance and
members of every law firm that represents all the big artists. Ari didn't seem
to like her much before, but now he hates her. We learn that Ari has worked for
Terrance for 20 years. He turned 40 last season, so that means he probably
worked for him straight out of college and nowhere else. It makes his firing
that more personal for him. Running a company for 8 years and being there 20 is
a long, long time. We also learn that Terrance doesn't seem to have ever liked
him. Ari seems to feel the same way. Then how the hell did they ever work
together in the first place? Terrence must've trusted him enough to turn the
company over to him for all those years. What went wrong? It couldn't have
been from the little he saw of him last year. There is a lot of going back
and forth with insults and each side not wanting to tip their hand, but Terrence
comes right out with it all. Ari screws up by admitting what he's up to and
Terrence says he's cutting off the money and will fight him in court. Now Ari has
nothing.
Outside Ari is losing his mind once again and calling another
emergency meeting of all his agents. He has another one of those insane lines about Carmen Electra that is hilarious.
I ready that Jeremy like to improvise lines a lot and I wonder if he's
responsible for that one. He's got nothing to offer
them but that he's starting the new company and everyone will have to work for
free. Barbara follows him and he doesn't seem to care that she did and tells her
to get out. She reveals something from out of nowhere. She used to be married to
Terrance and only set Ari up to see how serious he was about going after him.
She has lots of money from the divorce and is willing to use it to get even
because she doesn't want to work with him anymore.. She wants Ari on her team
because she knows he's the one to do it. There's a great scene when she says she
wants to have sex for the money and he looks ill. It shows he does have some
moral character. He's stuck into giving up control and being the second name on
the company. He'll get 49% control which means she'll be his boss. They call the
company Miller Gold and Ari's right to say it sounds like a beer, it is a name
of a beer. I would think they'll have to change the name.
Meanwhile Eric and Vince are on their own again without Ari's
ass kissing they can only get into trouble. They meet with the QB execs who are
only interested in cashing in and admit to changing the film because audiences
prefer it. They argue that they are destroying art to make money. They say there
is nothing wrong with making money. Vince realizes he's getting screwed twice in
a row so he surprises everyone at the press conference by speaking against the
film and lending his weight to make sure the bastardized version doesn't see the
light of day. How will they recover from this one? The only project Vince has
lined up he's working to suppress and has no jobs on the horizon.
At the end of the episode Ari and Drama both have new jobs,
but what of Vince? It's amazing how much crap they can stir up in one episode.
It's one thing after another and is overwhelming to take in so fast. Malcolm is
awesome when he's totally screwing Ari over. He knew Ari was biding his time and
wondered what talk him so long. He totally insults him about setting up shop in
some tiny new place and Ari can do nothing about it once again. I hope Ari does
take him to court so we can have more Malcolm, but it doesn't look good. Now Ari
has another boss he doesn't like and a woman on top of it all. How will he
possibly survive? They have to be careful giving Drama all these great lines or
he'll steal the show from Vince. I don't know how they do it, but the show keeps
the level high and everything is great. I can't wait to see where they go from
here.

Episode 31
They are cashing in on the trend for clubs that want to
get hot to pay for a celebrity to show up. Usually this just means they do a
walk through. That's what Vince thinks until he gets there. Drama is very
serious about his pilot, so serious that he doesn't want to go, until they
remind him of his favorite masseuse there. They pull a quick joke calling Ari
then driving right by him. Since when does Ari walk to work and how did they
know where he would be? Vince mentions having scripts with him, but if that's
true, it's never mentioned again. It's perfect Ari that he says he can't go
since he's spending time with his wife and her mom that night. It only takes him
2 seconds to change his mind.
Ari starts out great mentioning how relaxed he is a few times
and how he thinks he's going to make a pile of money with Vince's hot gambling
streak. This soon turns horribly wrong. It starts out with his wife getting mad
at him when he calls, then seconds later Barbara gets even more mad at him. We
learn that Ari now has 150 clients, or did she mean that's how many the company
has? This leaves a huge opening for an endless string of real life actors to
make cameos on the show.
Seth Green is back after appearing two episodes ago. He's
never met Ari before and doesn't seem impressed. What's funny is Seth has a
similar entourage to Vince that comes into play again and again. Unlike Vince's
group, Seth's have no personality, they just repeat what he says. Seth mentions
seeing Eric at the pool and continues to ask about Sloan which drives Eric nuts.
He's starting to think they used to be together, which is obviously what Seth
wants him to think. The guys have to explain to Eric that he's the jealous type,
even though he doesn't see it.
In the room there's 100 grand just sitting there waiting in a
roll. It seems crazy, how did the company get it there? If they have access to
the room, then it could be stolen so easily. Even more crazy is that Vince just
cashes it all in for chips and loses it all in just a few minutes! Ari thinks
he's up right away, then learns he's down almost $50,000! Vince didn't even
remember about the agreement, so Ari could've gotten out of it. But we learn Ari
is a hardcore gambler, but not a good one. Even when Vince offers him an out,
Ari won't take it.
Drama starts the fun early dressing up like Hugh Hefner and
walking around the casino floor in a robe he brought with him. When he meets
with Ken he sends out bad signals right away. Ken seems to barely remember him,
but Drama remembers everything about Ken, to the level of obsession. It's
hilarious when he says things like he wants Ken all to himself and doesn't want
his hands touching anyone else. What else would Ken think but that Drama was
gay?
Eric and Ari want Vince out of the stripper judging contest
because it's bad for his image. What image? He's a well known womanizer and last
season there was that front page article in Variety about Vince stealing Mandy
Moore from her fiancé. He also befriended the porno chicks at the Comicon while
promoting Aquaman and he went to the Playboy Mansion last season. That would
explain it all right there - Mansion = woman chaser. Even more obvious is it
would show he goes from woman to woman with no serious relationships. Why would
anyone be shocked or care? Suddenly Ari doesn't care when he learns Vince lost
all the money and becomes obsessed with winning it back. If Vince won't, he'll
do it himself, which is even worse.
They run into Seth again and it makes Eric even more crazy.
This time he does decide to call Sloan, but can't believe she lied to him about
not being with Seth. Vince says all guys lie about their past women. Sloan says
Seth was a pain in the ass and they never dated. Is she telling the truth? She
could just be parsing words. They may have just had a sexual relationship
instead of dating. Eric has to ask the right questions. The guys are surprised
at how calm he is about it. Now that he got what he thinks is the right answer
from Sloan he doesn't care about Seth. They think he'll still have to fight.
What about Sloan's rule about never dating actors? Everyone in the group seems
to have forgotten that. Was that a lie? What about them still dating even though
Vince jumped ship from her dad's firm and went with Ari? There should've been a
mention of that from Terrance.
Not only does Vince give Turtle 10 grand, but he lets him
make deals with all the girls in the contest to get Vince's vote. Why is he
being so nice? Does he not like to sleep with strippers? What happened to Turtle
making his own money with Saigon? That story line just doesn't ever get a follow
up.
Drama continues to butter up Ken and confuse him by asking
him to hang out. Ken doesn't do that with clients, but Drama insists. If that
isn't funny enough, Ari loses his mind when Vince loses more money. Even better,
Ari plays, loses and lets out a string of profanities that is classic. He has to
borrow more money and starts to look all wild and crazy as he gets sweaty and
unkempt.
The guys all think Ken is guy and try to get him to admit it
with no luck. They actually turn out to like him and Drama acts like a proud
girlfriend. They run into Seth a third time, it seems like more than a coincidence.
Is Seth stalking him? Eric insults Seth at the bar, then tells him he called
Sloan and Seth wants to know what she said, but Eric lies about it. When Seth
tells him to say what up back I wonder what kind of retarded conversation is
that supposed to be? Just keep saying what up? Eric is already sick of him and
Drama warns him that they are all going to have to fight again, but Eric doesn't
want that. Then Drama acts like a jealous teenage girl when he sees Ken
messaging a stripper. It's so funny that he runs over and pulls him away. Even
stranger is that Ken doesn't mind. It goes from looking bad to worse when Drama
invites Ken back to his room. What else what he think but Drama wants him? He's
so impressed with how Drama has been treating him and maybe he's a bit drunk
that he agrees to sleep with Drama. Drama loses it, but leaves without saying
anything, just attacking anything in sight looking for something to take his
anger out on.
Ari continues to lose and Vince arrives to bail him out. When
the guy playing next to Vince does the insane move of splitting on two kings
during blackjack, Ari is ready to bite his head off and makes a scene, almost
getting them kicked out. Ari has every right to be pissed, it's a madman's move,
but surprisingly Vince doesn't even care. It's even worse that Vince can win it
all back on this hand. Unbelievably the guy splitting the kings saves the day
for Vince. It was like he was counting cards and knew what he was doing. When
Vince wins the guy asks for an apology and Ari actually reaches over and kisses
him on the head. It's so funny to see this hard ass nutjob doing something like
that.
Everything has turned around, so what could go wrong? Seth
again. He pushes Eric about Sloan and Eric has had enough of him. Seth keeps
pushing him saying she was obsessed with him and he ejaculated on her face. This
pushes Eric over the edge, but he can't get to Seth because of his entourage. No
matter, an enraged Drama shows up at the right moment to pummel the guy and an
outnumbered Clockwork Orange style brawl breaks out, the only think missing is
the Thieving Magpie. Vince and Ari don't get involved, but does Seth?
Another great episode where once again Drama steals the show,
but only because of all the innuendos that he can't see are only going to
get him in trouble. Ari's downward spiral of progressively losing his mind is so
much fun to watch. He goes from being so relaxed to a hair away from a raving
lunatic. The whole high school jealousy stuff between Eric and Seth shouldn't
have amounted to anything. It wasn't so long ago, a mere 2 episodes, that Eric
wanted another woman and seemed poised to throw Sloan away for some quick sex.
It seems like Seth did want Sloan and was just setting Eric up, maybe to make
him look bad or accuse Sloan of something so she would get pissed off at Eric
and he could move in. Maybe he wanted to see how serious Eric was. He counted on
his boys to be able to protect him, but didn't plan on an enraged Drama coming
in. I guess he missed Drama's Celebrity Justice appearance last season. I would
think word of that would get around not to mess with him because he was crazy.
Then again Drama wasn't in the club when he started on him. Too bad we never get
to see the contest because Vince and Seth would've been sitting together, who
knows what words could've been said?

Episode 32
Anyone who is a fan of The Ramones knew the title of the
episode is a nod to one of their classic songs, but it sounded more like someone
would be doing drugs than the way it turned out. We finally get the conclusion
of the Turtle & Saigon story after dragging it out all season. We also get
our first look into Turtle's room, it's a fat hip hopper's dream - endless
variations on all of the same clothes he always wears. The guys pull a good one
over on him making they think they forgot about his big day, but they all come
through for him.
Everything has reversed with Ari. Now that he's got his big
new office he's more interested in furnishing it than taking care of Vince or
anyone else it seems. Eric hasn't heard from him in a week so he goes to see him
and Ari totally blows him off instead sticking him with a crazy old man who used
to be a famous producer. Eric thinks Ari has done him a favor, but he has really
hung him out to dry. Meanwhile Turtle is hung out to dry by Saigon and looks
like a schmuck in front of the old white guy that is running the rap label.
Vince is finally on his own and we soon learn that the fight
in Vegas was caught on camera and is now front page of the National Enquirer.
Eric learns he is being taken to Bob's house, not a restaurant and he tells him
a crazy story about Marlon Brando having sex with his cook every time he came
over. Eric knows it's not going to be a typical meeting. It doesn't seem like
Bob is based on any real person, but is played by the great Martin Landau who is
very funny as the crazy old producer.
Turtle and Drama as the Laurel & Hardy team and are at it
again. Drama has turned into Sherlock Holmes here and is on the Saigon case
knowing something is up with Saigon's mom, peeking in the house, tricking her to
use her phone and finally tracking him down. He's funny with his lines like,
"I can smell something wrong here."
Vince's day goes off with a bang when he hooks up with a
regular girl, takes her to a hotel and has sex with her. The one time we see he
really likes a girl and she tells him she's getting married so it won't work
out. So once again he screws around with an engaged woman who goes back to her fiancé, just like Mandy Moore. He better hope he wasn't caught by paparazzi
because another bad headline would hurt his career even more.
Bob keeps saying to Eric would you be interested in that again and
again which is funny because it really has nothing to do with what he's there
for most of the time. Finally Eric catches on that Bob has basically kidnapped
him and has nothing to offer. He tells more funny stories including one about a
stoned Dennis Hopper not leaving for 2 weeks. Eric calls Ari and is pissed to
learn Ari set him up. He's so engrossed in putting stuff together he doesn't
even care that Barbara is making more money than him. He blames it on Eric
calling him a douchebag, but Ari has lost his edge. He didn't do any yelling or
carrying on for the first time. How long will this last before Barbara throws
him out on his ass? A calm Ari is just no fun for anyone.
Eric looks at all these fake pictures of Bob with
Celebrities. You can tell the propman just cut out pictures of Martin's face and
taped it on all these pictures. For some reason Bob was close to The Ramones
which didn't make any sense. I was waiting for them to say he produced Rock N
Roll High School which would've been a good way to tie it together.
The best part is when Turtle and Drama confront Saigon.
Turtle doesn't know what to do and his big plan is to just knock on every door
in the hotel which fails. In Saigon's room it's Drama that pushes him. He
doesn't even realize he's got his back to the railing on a balcony. Suddenly he
doesn't want to fight because of the pilot he's filming, even though he had no
problem fighting in Vegas. He doesn't even seem to care he's being dangled over
the balcony and even worse the guys doing it don't care that the have witnesses.
Even funnier is they know who Drama is and he forgets where he is and asks him
if he watched Viking Quest. Before Saigon acts like a complete traitor he tells
him to stop and gives Turtle the cut of the money he would've gotten if he
signed him. So Turtle got the money anyway. I wonder if this will get him
in trouble with Ari after promising him an exclusive contract to Saigon's
acting.
Eric gets revenge on Ari by hooking Vince and Bob up, but we
don't learn anything about the script. Does this mean Vince is going to play
Joey Ramone? He'd have to be a lot taller and uglier to pull that look off.
That's a role Howard Stern is born to play. This wasn't as good an episode as
the last few. All the guys get screwed over, but come back in the end. It was
good to knock Vince down a little bit. He always gets the girl, but doesn't get
to keep her this time. Drama keeps stealing the show and with Ari all laid back
he has no competition. Now what the heck is Turtle going to do? His big career
as a producer is over before it started. There's also no word about Eric and
Sloan's relationship. I guess he didn't press the Seth Green issue any further.

Episode 33
I think it's funny that the two times we hear The Ramones
playing in this episode and the last one it's not "I Wanna Be Sedated"
which is the title of the script Vince is supposed to make. The opening scene is
hilarious from many angles, mostly from Drama. It seems Eric lied in the last
episode when he told Bob that The Ramones are Vince's favorite band because here
we learn that Vince doesn't even know Joey didn't play guitar, even though he's
watching a concert of them. Drama's first great line is he is perfect to play
Johnny Ramone in the movie because it would be a perfect brother picture. He
thought that because all of the band had Ramones for their last name that they
were really related! Then he flips out at everything Turtle says because he's
wound up so tight about filming his pilot today. He thinks he's jinxing him, but
he winds up helping him out in the end. Vince also agreed to shop out with
Turtle, but he really doesn't know why.
For some reason Ari quotes a famous line from Apocalypse Now
when Eric pulls up. I was under the impression that Ari didn't really know much
about movies, maybe he doesn't realize what it's from. We learn Ari wants to
keep Bob out of the way so he doesn't screw things up and Eric wants him
involved. This puts Eric in the middle as the referee. Ari makes more gross
sexual references and this is really the first time we've seen him do any work
since he teamed up with Barbara. We see right away that Ari doesn't want to play
nice with Bob and insults him every step of the way.
Turtle thinks that having Vince with him will help him score
the dopey sneakers he wants. He should've talked to him in advance because Vince
doesn't want to look like a jerk cutting the line. Besides that he doesn't want
to get killed. He needed Drama with him, he was ready to fight this morning, but
he isn't famous enough and probably wouldn't want his face to get hurt before
filming. With three stories going on at once, this is the least interesting. I
don't care if Turtle gets some phony hyped shoes. I want more Drama falling
apart.
Drama gets on set and he's a mess. He's so nervous that he
can't calm down. Then Ed wants to change everything by making his scene longer
and on the move and it makes it worse and worse until he completely panics. He
runs back to the trailer and all his meditating, hyperventilating and mantras
haven't worked. He decides the only way out is to take Turtle's advice. Too bad
for him he is miced and they can hear him outside. Instead of Ed getting mad he
allows the entire crew to listen and laugh at him. Surprisingly Drama is able to
relax and nail the scene just way Ed wanted it. When Ed says he wants some
reaction shots, it seems staged. I don't think Ed really wanted them at all, he
just wanted to bust on Drama for whacking it in the trailer and making him wait.
Bob acts all senile, forgetting things, acting goofy and not
knowing how things work in the modern age. Then why does he have a sell phone
and where is his driver? Ari has it all under control, but Bob wants to add his
two cents in at every step. It starts out bad when he asks for a Sanka, then
wants to sit next to Ari which means he has to go around him. Ari does a great
move curling up on the couch so he can get by. When he does Bob starts talking
and talks them all out of a sale. After Bob thinks it went well, even though
they have nothing to show for it. Ari and Bob start fighting again and Eric has
to step in, but sides more with Ari to let him do his thing. Ari has another
plan. He sends Bob to Disney while he takes Eric to Universal to make the deal.
Bob has a hilarious line calling Ari's car a Nazi sled. Eric wants to do the
right thing, but he also wants to get Vince the job since they are running out
of money. Eric is vicious to Ari as usual in a dirty way, but Ari doesn't give
it back like he used to. This time he makes Eric look bad in front of Jackie at
Universal by mocking him about leaving his phone on. Ari succeeds and Eric tries
Bob again, but he won't talk to him.
The guys can't believe Vince spent $1000s on some stupid
shoes. But now that he's working again he doesn't care. Then when he winds up
losing the job is he broke now? He said the money was the emergency fund. After
he bought them all those cars after Aquaman he should still have money, but we
saw all the cars in front of the house this episode and these aren't the cars.
Where are they? I'm not sure how Bob got from Disney to Warner's so quick. Maybe
he thought Ari and Eric were over there. It seems he made a quick sale after
saying Ari and Vince screwed him over so Alan bought the film out of spite. But
how would Bob get in without an appointment? It's just too easy.
On line at the store a guy who got the shoes mocks Turtle and
he shows them off. They look like regular white and gray Air Jordans, nothing
different or exciting. It doesn't add up in the way it ends. We are to believe
that Vince made a deal and then they just drove right over to get the sneakers.
How did Fuji have this customized box for Turtle and the shoes made in less than
an hour? I could understand him just spray painting gold and sparkles on the
shoes, but how did he make the fancy logo so fast? Even better is no one likes
the shoes. It seems like they wouldn't have spent even a hundred.

HBO decided to take a 20 episode season and
break it up into a block of 12 and 8. I have no problem with that. Instead of
having to wait 9 months for new episodes it'll be less than 6 and then only 3
from there for a new season, if it stays a Summer series. The problem I have is
them saying it was the season finale, when it wasn't. It's a deceitful way to
hype and trick people. They should've called it the last episode of the year
which would've been correct.
On to the episode. The episode starts ominously with Vince
standing over Eric while he sleeps like he's a stalker. Then it goes right to
the humor with Ari dreaming Vince is going to fire him at the same time. Great
stuff. I wonder why he is attached to Vince so bad. He's said before that Vince
was the only client he ever was really a friend with and that since he
discovered him he's like his baby, but right now Vince's career is on life
support and Barbara said he has 150 other clients to deal with. Where are they
all? Not once have we ever seen him working with another actor. This is needed.
The closest we got this season was that James Woods is a client when he came for
his premiere tickets.
Everyone has had it with Ari except for Drama. He talks a
good game, but deep down he doesn't want Vince to leave Ari because this means
he'll have no agent once again. Everyone knows pilots are shot all the time and
it is far from a guarantee that this one will succeed. Earlier in the season he
admitted he had to sell his motorcycle when he got out to Los Angeles because of
three failed pilots he made.
We learn that Vince never called Ari personally, so Ari knows
he's really in deep trouble. Vince could've easily gone to his office or waited
outside for Ari to show up if he wanted to get him, but he wanted to talk to him
on the phone and tell him off without the discomfort of meeting him face to
face. Ari explains to Lloyd about needing to have good news for an unhappy
client and spends the rest of the episode trying to get some. He gives another
one of his gross sexual comments about warts on his penis. These are a staple
this season, sick, but funny because of their filthiness. We see Vince has
another new toy for the guys interest in golf - first it was rooftop golf, then
hitting golf balls onto a lily pad in the pool and now it's a fancy indoor
simulator. Drama saves all the cards he got from agents when he was hot. He
thought that was a great plan, but since he hasn't been hot in 12 years all the
cards are useless from agencies that have closed. But Drama does give more
wisdom about not going with Terrance since Eric is dating Sloan and when that
goes south, it'll go south with Terrance too. Everyone agrees except for Eric of
course.
A quick funny scene of Ari racing around like a madman
follows. Then no matter how much of a big shot he is, there's always someone
bigger and he's met his match with Alan. It seems the only reason Alan has the
meeting with him in the first place is to insult him and make him miserable. He
has no intention of working with Ari on this. Ari even tries throwing Vince
under the bus by saying he's a kid who screwed up, but Alan isn't interested. He
even admits he's desperate to no avail. The cracks start to come when Dana says
Alan isn't being fair to Vince and Alan gets mad at her and Ari is thrown out.
Drama clearly stole this season and once again he gives out
more funny advice and we learn about a hot tub business he used to have for the
first time. I wonder if this was before or after he was famous? He has a scoring
and rating system he wants to use for the agents. It's funny that he's so goofy,
yet has all these detailed plans, ideas and schemes. Unfortunately for him the
plan doesn't work as the guys know the new agencies aren't working out, but he
still keeps rating and scoring them on his own, even if they don't agree with
anything he says. Like the first one where he says the plants are fake but
everyone else saw a girl watering them. He has no grasp on the obvious. At first
it seems good, but then Vince learns they aren't interested in him being the
best actor he can be, they want to make him a brand name. It sounds like they
want to whore him out like Kiss does selling all sorts of garbage with their
names on it. I wonder if there are agencies out there yelling at the show for
giving away their secrets. They won't work on the new clients anymore after this
show.
Outside Ari learns Vince is cheating on him. He insults Lloyd
by making a reference to Japanese internment camps from WWII, but Lloyd isn't
Japanese. Maybe he is Chinese though he doesn't look it. Lloyd gets off some
great lines in this episode and tells Ari there is a cabal where all the gay
assistants at the agencies gossip about everything, so he knows what Vince is
doing. Then we get another WWII joke when Ari call's Dana Hitler's evil
assistant. Last week it was "Nazi sled" and a few episodes before Ari
called Terrance a Hitler living SOB. That's a lot of jokes from the same theme
in a short time, does this mean it's no longer "too soon" to see WWII
related humor? He insults her some more and then pretends to be Eric while
sounding nothing like him to insult the gay assistant to the agent that Vince is
heading to next saying they aren't coming because he's a big fag. Does Ari think
this is going to pay off by losing Vince jobs, insulting people and doing
underhanded moves like this? He doesn't care. Even with all that Dana confesses
to him that Alan is just buying the script to spite him, he's not making the
film. She wants out and should know Ari can't be trusted, but she screws up. Ari
then admits he cheated on his wife when they were dating, but not when they were
married. Later he says he used to sleep with Dana, but if he's been with his
wife for over 20 years, how could that have been? Unless they went to college
together it wouldn't add up plus the actress that plays him is only 36, so
something is fishy. The easiest explanation is that Ari lied about sleeping with
her to sell Bob. At least he learns he has a chance on getting the Ramones movie
back.
The next setting for the guys is like nothing I've ever seen
- an outdoor restaurant where the server haas a podium out on the curb. I guess
they would run it inside if the weather got bad. They learn right away that Ari
is screwing with them and decide to get even by going to Ari's enemy Josh
Weinstein. Ari does indeed lose it upon hearing the news. He says he'd rather
Vince slept with his wife than go to Josh. He seems serious enough to offer his
wife to Vince to stay with him. In Vegas he said he didn't care if his wife was
banging someone right now. She seems more like an object to him lately, someone
to get money from than the loving guy he was at the Aquaman premiere. Ari then
offers his car to Bob who while he acts like he's not interested, it does make
him come to the door. In the end Ari gets to keep his car anyway. He also admits
desperation to Bob and offers to breakdance naked to get the script back. What a
site that would be, but I doubt Ari could breakdance though. Ari can't convince
him that Alan isn't going to make the movie, so he betrays Dana by telling Bob
she is his source. He must've met her when he made the deal with Alan because it
stops him in his tracks.
Then Josh Weinstein appears for the first time in a season
and a half. He's done well for himself. He has a huge agency and is very slick
and surrounded by beautiful young women workers. He totally caters to Vince and
even gives attention to Drama and Turtle of all people to make them feel at
home. He's sickeningly smooth, the ultimate used car salesman who could give Ari
a run for his money. He's got them convinced and Vince and Eric are excited
about it until they get the same brand name spiel.
Ari comes swaying into the office, it's a far cry from
breakdancing, but it's close to getting light on his feet. Lloyd has never seen
him like this, so he doesn't know if he's happy or not! After Ari kisses him he
says he likes him happy, I think he means he liked being kissed by him. Maybe
that's why he stays with him, Lloyd has a crush on Ari. His happiness is short
lived when Dana calls. Bob opened his mouth about her saying his script was dead
when he came in and got her fired. I guess this means Ari will have to get her a
job at his firm or else he's in trouble. I doubt they'll mention it in the next
episode, but it would be better if he doesn't get her the job and she starts
stalking him.
What happened to Turtle's shoes from last week? No sign of
him wearing them. With all the money Vince spent he should be wearing them 24
hours a day for the rest of his life. Vince thinks he might not need an agent
and Turtle gets in a great dig saying that was what Drama's done for the last 10
years.
The next scene makes little sense to me. Bob decided he had
to see Alan to get the truth and in doing so he got Dana fired. Instead of doing
something about it, he signs the film over to Alan knowing he's a jerk and he
will kill the film. His excuse is the business has changed so much over the
years that he doesn't fit in anymore and he's done with it all. He just didn't
care, even though in the last scene all he cared about was getting the movie
made. Ari has to admit defeat and talk to Vince, but first he makes another
gross sexual gay comment to Lloyd who surprises him by admitting he doesn't take
it up the butt. I noticed Lloyd has a picture of a young white guy next to his
phone, I wonder if that is his boyfriend and if we'll ever see him outside of
the agency. When Lloyd won't make the call Ari gets out another hilarious line
about a queer as folk pep talk. Lloyd even admits that's what he's doing, but it
turns out that he gives Ari the wrong advice in the end. Will this get him
fired? Maybe Ari won't realize Lloyd is to blame for getting him to rally the
troops and pulls the brand name spiel for the third time in one episode. Ari is
all fired up and calls Vince himself, but no one has anything to say. They are
like two teenagers trying to go out on a first date. Vince agrees to come in and
both of them are nervous about it. Lloyd says it's cute and Ari kicks him out
which is such a funny way to end the tension.
Vince tells the guys it's going to be hard and surprisingly
Drama just tells him to not go back, don't tell him anything. Then he does a 180
and says all the agents are the same, they saw that today. The devil you know is
better than the devil you don't. He is overconfident about his pilot and thinks
he's got unlimited options, but the truth is he gets Vince to stay with Ari so
he's still got representation. He still says something crazy by claiming he's
been with so few agencies because he's a loyal guy, but he's been with 15 of
them! Eric and Ari have always hated each other, but Eric isn't lashing out at
Ari. It seems there has been some soothing maybe since Eric got to see Ari in
action selling the Ramones script. But when Vince says he just wants an apology
Eric says maybe he will. He could've been forceful about it either way, but he
doesn't know anymore about Ari either.
As soon as they walk in they know there is trouble when Lloyd
calls him Mr. Chase and he has to meet with the agents, not Ari one on one. Was
Ari really to scared to be alone with him? Is that the reason he did it? Maybe
he thought Vince wouldn't fire him in front of the whole company. Instead of
telling Vince what he thought in a serious tone face to face, he half jokingly
says it all in front of the group then says we won't bring it up. It's a cheap
ploy. He doesn't even do all the talking, instead he let's barb do most which
couldn't help either. When the presentation started I hoped it wasn't the same
spiel, but on the other hand I knew it was. I was hoping they would actually say
how they would make him a brand name. Does that mean he would put out a CD?
Vincent Chase brand shoes? The Vincent Chase Variety hour? Is any actor a brand
name? Let's say Tom Cruise is the most popular box office draw right now. It's
sad, but true. Is he a brand name? What does that mean? It's supposed to be that
anything you put your name on is an instant hit or seller. It seems what they
want is exploitation. You aren't an actor - you are a potential industry. But
one actor isn't a Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen empire. They sold everything, but
who would buy products just with Vince's name on it? Would you buy Tom Cruise
brand sneakers? It's all such a bad idea, especially when he just wants to act.
The worst thing is Ari just gave a speech about how Vince is like his baby since
he found him when he was nothing. Instead of the close friend and parent, he's
the out of touch dad who has no idea what his kid wants or needs. He could've
just told him I did what I did because I wanted you to get the film and I went
to everyone today to try and save it. Instead he says it when it is too late and
he's half assed about it. He should've remembered Vince wanted off Aquaman 2
because Alan lied to him. He was willing to go with a bad script. Ari was
avoiding him the whole time and having Lloyd lie for him. Vince let's Eric get
back at him by letting him fire Ari as they walk out. What happened to Vince
firing him? It's an option Ari can use saying he's not fired because Vince
didn't tell him.
It's a good cliff hanger, it's all up in the air. Is this the
end of Ari? Basically. He's gotten too big for the show, he won an Emmy, offers
are coming in, options are open. It seems time for Jeremy to move on. It's been
announced that Ari will still be on the show when they find spots for him, but
Vince will be getting a young female agent instead played by Carla Gugino. This
will change the dynamic of the show from Ari to being a main character, to a
lesser role to being gone. He's an important part of the show and along with
Drama he's the funniest guy on the show. Plus all the building up of Lloyd will
go to waste. It can still be a funny show if they film a bunch of Ari scenes at
once and spread them around. Who knows what will happen. It's still a great show
and it's not over yet, I'll be watching whatever happens in the next 8 episodes.
