Picture 4: Lola is being delivered while the 3 black-tan pups pile up for warmth.

Picture 5: Here are Maochai's "Fantastic Four"! Born on a friday, August 26, 2005!

Picture 6: The litter at 3 days old...

Max is the eldest, male, black-tan and has the "dad's big head", Scooby is the second to come out, also a male, black-tan and the "bully", MJ is third, a female, black-tan and the "biter" and of course Lola, the last to come out, cream colored and the "tame" one.

Each one of them has a distinctive attitude that can contribute to the world! They have certain characteristics that makes us ditinguish them easily when they are together.

Researching from the internet and certain books helped me a lot during Maochai's delivery. Instinct just came in to her. Maochai choosed her labor place and delivery area as well. We just assisted her with blankets and water on the side. She gave birth to Max at 2:30 in the afternoon, then Scooby at 3:20. Between Scooby and MJ, Maochai didn't show any pain at all. MJ came out at 3:57 then Lola at 4:26 pm. All came out healthy with shining coats! We did feed Maochai before we predicted she is in labor. But as a mom and in labor, I think Maochai excluded herself from eating on her own. She neglected all the chaos of things in the house, the noise of each and everyone in the family. She knew what she's going through, and knew how to handle things on her own. Pretty much, she would have delivered all the puppies on her own without giving us signs of her in labor. If my husband didn't check her out before we were about to leave, we weren't able to assist her at all.

When they were born, we have already noticed who is who for nobody is identical. Maochai pushed Lola away right after she came out and cleaned. I automatically included her to the pack, let her suck mom's teats and suddenly noticed that Maochai didn't notice her being with the others at all. I think she knew that she could have been the weakest, but assisting the puppy not to be won't hurt. You will never regret the experience in delivering these puppies with their mother. You will also never regret that feeling when they are growing up, you have been there for them ever since.

So many things has happened since the four was born. There had been a lot of good and bad events that occured while we take turns taking care of them. But no matter what i say, no matter what i do... There is no greater felling than seeing and being there for your 1st newborns!

Tour the different topics and links in this website to learn different aspects concerning Dachshunds & enjoy what we have enjoyed with these puppies from the moment of Mom's labor until this very day!
