On 7 july 2001, the dutch magazine Volkskrant
reported that prince Johan Friso has a girlfriend since a year: Mabel Wisse Smit
She was also present at the wedding of Constantijn and Laurentien.
Because she is a friend of Laurentien, she was one of the witnesses.
Strange, that the press did not found out that days, that she was the girlfriend of Johan Friso.
The RVD stated that she "belongs to the friends" of Johan Friso,
the same as they always said Emily Bremers belonged to the friends of Willem Alexander.
Personal Information
Mabel Wisse Smit is born 11 august 1968, Pijnacker, The Netherlands.
She is more than one month older than prince Johan Friso.
She studied Political Science at the University of Amsterdam.
Afterward she started working for the United Nations in New York.
In her work, she soon became a specialist on Balcan issues.
She had a close relationship with Muhamed Sacirbey, former ambassador for Bosnia at the United Nations,
and former minister of foreing affairs in Bosnia. It is not known how far this relationship went.
At the end of the nineties, she left New York for Brussels, and started to work for Open Society Institute,
which is owned by the hongarian miljonair George Soros.
In Bussels, she befriended Laurentien Brinkhorst, and so she met prince Johan Friso.

Countess Eloise, the daughter of prince Constantijn and princess Laurentien was baptized on 15 december 2002.
Also Mabel was present at this family gathering.

The funeral of prince Claus
Mabel was present at the interrement of Prince Claus.
She was allowed to go into the cellar where the coffin was placed, together with the royal family and
the sisters of Prince Claus. The RVD stated that she was a good friend of the family, and had supported them
the last years. However, it is considered that an engagement is now soon to come.
Mabel is accompagned by prince Carlos de Bourbon de Parme, prince of Piazenca, son of Princess Irene.
