Walewice

A beautiful classicistic palace raised in the years 1783-1784 for Anastazy Colonna-Walewski, King Stanisław August Poniatowski's chamberlain, according the Hilary Szpilowski's design. The one-storied main body of the palace is connected with side pavilions by means of arcaded galleries - it is a kind of Palladian Layout, common in Poland in the second half of the 18th century. Visitors are attractedd to Valewice due to the legend of the famous love-affair between Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte and Countess Walewska. Although Napoleon never paid a visit to Walewice, their son Aleksander Jzef Colonna-Walewski was born there; during the reign of Napoleon III, he held the post of the French foreign minister. Since 1945 the palace has belonged to the Walewice stud-farm.
