965 - 977

Dobrawa's name in Czech is Dubrawka and was Polonized to Dąbrwka. She was the daughter of the Czech king Bolesław I and the niece of Saint Wacław. Chroniclers have given many descriptions of Dobrawa. Thietmar of Merseburg and Gall Anonim glorified her as a lady of many virtues. She is responsible for quickening the baptism of Mieszko I. Both Polish and other sources have given Dobrawa credit not only for helping Christianize the Polish people by marrying the still-pagan Mieszko, but also for strengthening Polish-Czech ties. Dobrawa and Mieszko had two children; Bolesław Chrobry and Sygryda who would later become queen of the Danes, Swedes, and Norwegians. Dobrawa died in the year 977 and is buried in the town of Gniezno.
