Meet Mona

About

Even though we've only had Mona in our lives the past six months, we've gotten to know her very well over this timeframe. Here are the top five facts we've learned about our Mona.

  1. Mona is a mixed-breed dog. She's part chihuahua and part dachshund. You can easily see she has both the big, perky ears of a chihuahua and the long, wiener-dog body of a dachshund. In other words, nothing about her is proportionate.
  2. Mona was a rescue dog we adopted from an animal shelter. She arrived at the shelter by way of the dog catcher when she got loose and her old owners didn't want her back. We can't believe they didn't want to hold onto a sweetheart like Mona!
  3. Mona loves everyone she meets. Whenever we have guests over to our apartment, she simply must rotate around the room until she has thoroughly tested every last lap. We call her an equal-opportunity snuggler.
  4. Mona also likes to smell everything when she goes out on walks. Originally, dachshunds were bred as hunting dogs, so that's why she loves to sniff so much. It still doesn't explain her nose for trouble, though.
  5. Mona has one brother and one sister. Her brother Alan is a Maine Coon, one of the largest breeds of domesticated cats, and is about twice Mona's size. Her sister Lucy is a Sheltie, and she always knows what's cooking in the kitchen.
