Wednesday 18th June.

Shannons two sisters live close by, and when I woke this morning, I found Sara and Daren playing with their three cousins: Courtney, Taylor and Zachary.  They had joined Sara and Daren for the morning to play, and to give Courtney and Taylors pregnant mother time to rest after spending the night in hospital with pre-term contractions.  The children explored my distraction play bag, and the galaxy ball, fishing and Butthead games proved a real success.  Dino was extremely well received and was frequently taken from his honoured seat atop the VCR for hugs and inquisitive investigation of his artificial eye.  Shannon read the My Fake Eye and My Pretend Eye books to the girls who listened intently whilst the younger boys played with cars and balls.

After a macaroni cheese lunch, the children left for  a mini golfing excursion with their Montessori school, and I tried sat down to upload my journal entries onto my website.  Alas, AOL would not let me open the PageBuilder application at Geocities, and I eventually conceded defeat.  I shall have to wait to update the pages.

Gary arrived home first.  Work had taken him to Tallahassee early in the morning, and he was tired after the long drive home.  He had a treat for the children, a dozen tubes of tennis balls - a random gift from one of the clients for whom he commercially cleans windows.  Naturally, they all came out for investigation, and I suspect tennis balls will pop up here and there around the house for weeks!

Darens new prosthesis arrived today in the post.  Im astounded at how much larger it is than mine - I have such tiny eye sockets due to radiotherapy in infancy stunting their growth.  Daren has beautiful eyes.  I wonder how much of his calmness this time around through the change-over process could be attributed to his playing with Dino.  Usually he becomes extremely distressed, but today he barely whimpered.  It could just be that he is a little older now, but Dino seems to have worked some magic of his own.
