Back in 1997, I thought I'd like to try having a go at recording my own songs. So I scraped together enough gear and had a go. At the time, I was living in a house truck and caravan, in a paddock, by the river with six sheep. The house truck and caravan were powered by solar power. I did the recordings in the truck, except for the guitars, which didn't like the inverter, so I would take the gear up to a farmers packing shed and record the guitars there. I would also mix in the shed to prevent inverter hum, using headphones, as I couldn't be bothered taking up the stereo as well. I recorded three albums this way, but later whittled them down to this one with the best songs. Additional vocals by Kez Bizarre on some songs. Bass, lead guitar and additional vocals by Xanataph on Jenny. Cover by Kez Bizarre.

In 2001, I moved to Dunedin and started living in a house, which is really cool cause now I have the room to have my recording gear permanently set up. I can now spend more time on songs and mix through the stereo. I have also collected a little more gear, which makes my recordings sound a little better. First job was to remix / rework the songs that didn't fit on the first album. This album is the result, along with some new songs. Additional vocals by Kez Bizarre. Additional vocals by Gaylene on some tracks. Bass and lead guitar on tracks 4, 8, 12 and 17 by Xanataph. Cover by Kez Bizarre.

(Part I) The Nightmayor Of Nelson (Part II) He's Got You Now (Part III) We've Gotta Kill The Nightmayor Of Nelson (Part IV) The Nightmayor's Dead
(Part V) The Two Faced Mayor (Part VI) We Have To Kill The Two Faced Mayor (Part VII) The Two Faced Mayor He's Gone To Hell (Part VIII) The Mathebeast Stalks This Town (Part IX) The Mathebeast Must be Exorcised (Part X) Why Do I Have Nightmayors? (Part XI) The Slasher Malone's Been Reanimated (Part XII) The Slasher Malone Has Gone Away (Part XIII) I've Left This Nightmayor Town At Last

Back in 1991, I was in a short lived band called Boris, when I wrote The Nightmayor Of Nelson (Part I), which Boris performed. At the time, The Slasher Malone was voted in as mayor for the third time, so I thought I would write a song about him. A couple of years later, I saw an article in the paper, about a councilor who had died. There was a photo of the pallbearers carrying his coffin, which consisted of The Slasher Malone and other councilors, the Slasher with a really silly looking expression on his face and looking like they were going to drop the coffin, so I thought I'd write a sequel to The Nightmayor of Nelson, based on this photo. Shortly afterwards (1993), Dead Centre reformed and performed these two songs. A little bit later I wrote another two songs, which Dead Centre also performed. So now there were four parts. In 1997, I thought it would be fun to write and record another (Part V), based on the then current mayor, who was of course just as much of a horror as the last one. In 1999, I decided to write another four parts (now up to Part IX), and ended up recording the whole lot. After moving to Dunedin, I thought I would write some more and finish the whole thing off for good, so towards the end of 2002, I wrote four more songs (two more at the end and another two inserted within the story) and re-recorded the whole lot. I re-recorded the whole lot, as I was starting to do my own drum beats with the drum machine (I've never played drums) and thought it would be a good experiment and learning curve. (My previous albums were recorded using preset drum beats) After about four months of madness, I finally finished it, in March of 2003. These songs are all based on actual events during each of the mayors time in office. Cover by Kez Bizarre.
