Is it just me, or do the holidays seem shorter every year? Anyhow, welcome back. I am looking forward to this year.
Over the break, my beautiful assistant and I spent some time at Mothertrucker recording studios which is run by Mike Puke and Kez Bizarre and is situated on the banks of the Riwaka River. Puke and Bizarre's set-up is simple and effective - a Fostex, digital eight track and a CD burner. Instruments were recorded direct and voices through a particularly nice AKG condenser microphone and all through solar power during a typically nice summer evening, while either sitting outside or taking one's turn in the back of the truck, which doubles as a recording room.
Mix-down consisted of mixing direct to CD through an optical link. A beautiful combination of natural sound with digital clarity.
To date, Mothertrucker has released four full-length albums on CD. The most recent is a 31 song compilation from legendary Nelson punk band Dead Centre. The Worst Of Dead Centre spans the band's 10-year recording career. For a full catalogue you can contact Mothertrucker at PO Box 266, Motueka.
