TITLE: Informed About The Rainforest

 

GRADE: First

 

LENGTH: 60 minutes

 

CONCEPT: Synthesizing of rainforest information and personal experiences

 

RATIONALE: The students now know about the inhabitants, products, and problems of the rainforest. They will bring all of their experiences together for a multi-media journey through the rainforest. This provides the opportunity to visualize the things they have read, have been read to, and did activities concerning.

 

STUDENT OBJECTIVES:

 

MATERIALS: Rainforest Melody audiocassette

 : guided visualization called Lost In The Wild

 : rainforest story template booklet (pages 1, 2, 3, and 4)

 

LESSON BODY

ANTICIPATORY SET:

  1. Explain that since the students are now rainforest experts, they are prepared to take a journey through the rainforest.
  2.  

    PROCEDURES:

  3. Ask that the students close their eyes.
  4. Turn off the lights.
  5. Play the audiocassette of rainforest sounds (Rainforest Melody).
  6. Read the guided visualization aloud while the tape plays.
  7.  

    FOLLOW-UP ACTIVITY:

  8. As that the students return from the rainforest by opening their eyes as the lights are turned backed on.
  9. Show the students the template for their rainforest stories. Read each page to them, making sure they understand and can recognize the words.
  10. Explain that they need to complete the sentences based on what they just experienced, hear in stories, read in reading group, saw in rainforest books in the class library, etc. Suggest that they look up at the mobiles or look at the posters around the room for aid if they need to.
  11. Send them to their seats to work.
  12.  

    CLOSURE:

  13. Ask the students to share their rainforest stories with a partner through paired-shared reading.
