Two has-been boxers, Cesar (Antonio Banderas) and Vince (Woody Harrelson) get a second chance at the big the time when they are asked to fight each other in the supporting bout to a Tyson fight in Los Vegas, in this weak comedy.
Banderas lets himself down badly after a string of classics (
Desperado, The Mask of Zorro, The 13th Warrior). The set-up seems fairly promising - two best mates have to fight each other for the chance at a title fight. Unfortunately most of the movie is spent on their roadtrip to Vegas with Cesar's girlfriend (Vince's ex) Grace (Lolita Davidovitch). The dialogue is meant to be hip and witty, but it falls a long way short of it's mark. The whole thing just gets really boring, and you can't wait for them to actually get there and do something. When they do eventually get to the fight it's not bad, but it's constantly interrupted by cameos by people like Kevin Costner in the audience. The result of the fight is blatently obvious and signposted from really early on in the movie.
This is an interminably long, dull film, with neither of the leads on form, totally lacking in humour and charisma. The highpoints are the boxing match itself, and lovely Lucy Liu as a teenage nymphomaniac, but they don't make it worth watching at all. 3/10
