THUNDERBALL
1965
The Thunder Babes
Another great 007 outing for Sir Sean Connery opens with a superb pre-title sequence. Bond executes SPECTRE-agent Colonel Boitier, then escapes from the rooftop on a rocket-pack to land next to his Aston Martin.

Back in London we get to see the MI6 Conference Room, which is very impressive. A massive cathedral-like room with huge paintings on the walls, which slide away to reveal equally huge maps. SPECTRE's mysterious Number One (voiced by Joesph Wiseman, Dr. No in
Dr. No) is up to his old tricks. Once again we do not see his face; we just see the trademark white cat on his lap, and hear his voice. He has sent a tape to the Prime Minister, which is excellent. "My Dear Prime Minister," he begins, in a very Doctor Evil voice. He's got SPECTRE's Number Two, the psycloptic Emilio Largo (Adolfo Celi), to steal a couple of British atomic bombs. They threaten to destroy a major British or American city if an exorbitant ransom is not paid. Fortunately Bond pulls the same trick he did in Goldfinger, and seduces a woman close to Largo. Specifically his mistress, the babelicious Domino (Claudine Auger, left), whom he debauches underwater during a scuba diving trip.

007 eventually discovers that Largo has the bombs aboard his yacht, the Disco Volante, which leads to a superb underwater battle between SPECTRE and American troops.
They swim about shooting each other with harpoon guns, then resort to just stabbing each, while Bond goes round cutting through the bad guys' breathing tubes and cutting their masks off.
Thunderball also boasts an excellent theme song by Tom Jones, and the catchy
Mr. Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang which was originally going to be the theme song.
