I have noticed an increasingly number of songs written by Asian Americans that deal with the issue of "Asian Pride." Actually a lot of their lyrics seem to pointing out their struggles of being Asian in North America. Most of the artists have taken a Hip Hop or R&B style of music to voice their feelings of pride, love, anger, and struggles towards being Asian-American. I have also found alternative "Asian Pride" songs that share similar lyrics about our experiences. I must warn you that some songs contain lyrics that are offensive in nature. In no way do I agree with these lyrics.

I just added four songs and will be adding more from my personal collection soon!

C-Quence
R&B Song that deals with the meaning of Asian Pride while growing up in North America. I heard that C-Quence is from California. The song is pretty good and leaves you with feeling upbeat and proud to be Asian. Some people have actually named it the Asian Pride Anthem.

Simple
This was quite a big "underground" hit in California a summer or two ago. It is one of my favorite slow songs because it reminds me of my baby boo. Great R&B Slow Jam.

Joey Lo Flow
This is the so called "Asian Pride" song that has become an "underground" hit among Asian-Americans and Asian-Canadians. The background music and beat is taken from Tupac's Changes and given a healthy dose of what Joey Lo Flow thinks Asia Pride means. I got a good laugh and still do when I listen to it. But if you carefully analyze his offensive lyrics you will find that there is much anger, jealousy, insecurity, uncertainty, and ambiguity in the word "Asian Pride." The problem that bugs me most about this song is that he basically defines being Asian as not being white, and being "better" than white people.

Joey Lo Flow and Hampsta
Often called Got Rice Part II, Racing Aint' a Thang talks about the RiceBoy / Import Car Culture that started in Southern California and has spread across North America. Again, they "borrow" the beat from Jemaine Dupri's Money Ain't a Thang. The song further perpetuates stereotypes of Asians in souped up Japanese import cars, racing the streets, driving girls horny etc. I must say that they rap much better than their first "hit" but they seem more cocky by proclaiming that "we sing the songs that all Asians sing." Since then Joey Lo Flow and Hampsta has been a target for a whole slew of retaliatory "Asian Pride" songs that attempt and succeed in deflating their egos.

Hi-Standard
This Asian Punk Rock band performs a highly energetic but short piece that simply yells out Asian Pride. I can't seem to make out the line that goes, "Get out of the way, I'm gonna say, ...something... Asian Pride." It is not clear but I have a feeling that part I can't make out is in Cantonese or Mandarin.

Unknown Artist
Mr. and Mrs. AZN is a song that pokes fun yet examines the stereotype of Asian-Americans as being materialistic, flashy, individuals who only dress in all black and designer labels. The artist suggest at the start of the song how we came to shed our old stereotype of being "nerdy." Then he goes on to expose in our effort to shed the old stereotypes of us that we have fallen victim of a new stereotype that we have created ourselves: Mr. and Mrs. AZN. For those who don't know difference between Asian and an "AZN," an "AZN" is a slang word often used by some Asian-Americans to distinguish themselves from the rest of the Asian population. I am still doing more "research" into finding out the meaning of this term. Being from Canada, we do not use this word. Overall, this song is smart and says that "Asian Pride" is a stereotype that we have created ourselves.
