About Gloria Jean Nagy:
Gloria Jean Nagy is the founding director and vocalist of the duo Cantabile, now in its twenty first season. She holds a Master of Music in Literature and Performance from the University of Western Ontario and is an associate of the Royal Conservatory of Music (ARCT). Professor Nagy has been a vocal instructor at Carleton University (SSAC) since 1981, a music teacher for the Ottawa-Carleton District Board of Education (several schools) and a vocal teacher and examiner for Canterbury High School since 1984. She has frequently been heard in concert as a vocalist, accompanist and choral conductor and tours Canada as a vocal\ choral Music Festival adjudicator (since 1988), a workshop clinician and a voice/ piano Conservatory Canada examiner (since 2001). She has appeared in numerous operatic productions including Opera Lyra's first production in 1984, The Impressarioby Mozart, Banff School of Fine Arts' The Merry Wives of Windsor by Nicolai, and student productions of opera excerpts by Britten, Wolf-Ferrari, Mozart, Puccini, Wagner, Menotti, Verdi and others at the University of Western Ontario Opera Workshop and at the Liszt Academy in Budapest, Opera Division. She maintains a busy vocal studio as well as conducting about twenty choral concerts a year. She has been broadcast many times by CBC Radio, Societ� Radio Canada and Rogers Cablevision and has delighted audiences in Canada, Hungary, Spain and France. Her vocal duo Cantabile presents two concerts annually in their series now in its twenty second season. She is an active administrator for local chapters of ORMTA (Ottawa Region Branch past-president), Eastern Ontario Friends of Conservatory Canada and Canadian Music Showcase and is currently the music director and conductor of the Amabile Singers of Nepean, The Kanata Choral Society (www.kanatachoralsociety.ca), the West Ottawa Children's Chorus (www.westottawachildrenschorus.com)and the Sanctuary Choir of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church.
