strength

at my most vulnerable,
i am a constructor of
magnificant walls even you cannot climb
a destroyer of
strong bridges that we used to
cross freely

at my weakest,
i will cower in the corner
refusing to be touched
even the most gentle, most sincere
will not reach me

because i was at my strongest with you
i tied myself to us
hoping to keep us afloat,
a futile attempt to save
a sinking ship.

and now far beyond the calm surface,
pulled deep where fear can be a refuge
i'll take in water
i admit defeat
