Halloween & Fall Fun
home back to writings
The leaves are changing, the weather is getting colder, and nothing sounds better right now than nice hot apple cider and sugar donuts.  These are the signs of autumn and to most people that means Halloween is right around the corner.  Whether or not you participate in traditional Halloween events, Higgins Hall hopes to provide a fun and safe environment for this season.
On Friday, October 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. there will be children of all ages utilizing the doorbells by trick or treating throughout the hall. Guides will bring around groups of kids and Higgins Hall residents are welcomed to hand out candy.
No lights on, kids and parents tripping over skeletons and bales of hay, these are some of the things that simply cant happen on the night of the 29th. There are a few safety issues to keep in mind when decorating for October 29.  As mentioned before, lighting must be intact and on, there cannot be anything blocking exit signs, no fog machines or obstructions in the hallways.  Only twenty-percent of the walls can be covered, and they cannot have garbage bags up on the walls; instead try putting up the fake spider webs, or Halloween images cut out of paper.  To practice fire safety, there cannot be any leaves or straw in the hallways or anything made out of these materials, dont hang things from the ceiling below head level, no extension cords, and no candles; try using flashlights instead. As usual, the Resident Director may ask anyone participating in the trick or treating to leave the premises. All residents are encouraged to participate in decorating the hallways and handing candy out to the trick or treaters.  If there are any uncertainties with decoration regulations, ask any Resident Advisor; as they will be participating in the nights events.
