Because Geocities will be shutting down, the Marquette men's volleyball team Web site will be relocating to www.mumensvball.yolasite.com

Meanwhile, the team has announced that its fall tournament will be on Halloween, Saturday, Oct. 31. The entry fee is $150. Please contact Matt Peters on the Contact page for mailing information. And in case you were wondering this year's officers are: President Matt Peters, Vice President Dave Doucette, Treasurer Michael Klenn, and Sergeant at Arms Jack Hughes. Head coach Brian Nash is stepping down this year and a new coach will be named soon.

Pcan sign up at O-Fest on Sept. 3 outside of the Union. Open gyms will begin 8 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, and will continue to go every Tuesday and Thursday through tryouts which are set for Sept 18 and 19 at the Helfaer Rec Center.

Looking back

For the 12th season in a row, the Marquette men's volleyball team has proven that it has gone into the NIRSA Volleyball Championships under-ranked. That's because the team went into this year's tournament in Kansas City as the No. 17 and finished in gold (No. 9). The Golden Eagles went undefeated in pool play, upsetting the No. 1 seed in their pool UCLA. In the power pool, Marquette lost to a high flying Cal-Berkley team but defeated James Madison to remain in the top tier. In the opening round on the final day, Marquette fell to Lakeland College in two hard-fought games in which MU's setter was injured in the first game with the team leading by close to six points. Lakeland, who also eliminated Marquette in the semifinals of the WVC tournament, went on to take No. 3 in the country.

One highlight for the Golden Eagles at the WVC was the huge win the JV team had over UW-Oshkosh II in the state finals. Outside hitter Mark Litton, who was named tournament MVP, led the team to a 2-1 victory, the Marquette II's first since 2003.

For most teams, going into the Feb. 28 Midwest 10 Championship Tournament ranked No. 8 isn't a sign of good things to come. Unless you're the Marquette men's club volleyball team. That's because the team used its homecourt advantage to the fullest and ended up beating Ball State, No. 1 UW-Oshkosh, Notre Dame and No. 7 Lakeland in route to winning the title. (The team was the No. 8 seed in the regular season when it won the tournament in 2001 as well

Hey everyone, as the season gets started again, check out the VolleyTalk Web site, and the message board on the WVC Web site. A lot of talk is starting already about who are the teams to beat.

For more information on the upcoming season or if you have any questions, please contact club president Matt Peters or Brian Nash.
