The Assyrians were used by God to punish the Northern Kingdom of Israel...they were used as the rod of His anger.  The spiritual Assyrians, likewise,  have come into the church as judgment on the church for its sins against God....the church has been a hypocritical nation...and so the Assyrians were given power over the church to take spoil, prey and to tread the people down.  Satan's ministers and their followers are the Assyrians...that are used by God...the "rod" of his anger.

(Isa 10:5 KJV)  O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.
10:6 I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to
tread them down like the mire of the streets.

The holy people are trodden down:

(Dan 8:10 KJV)  And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and
stamped upon them.

The Assyrian has destroyed and prospered in the church....he has succeeded in bringing the people of God to hunger and thirst.

(Dan 8:24 KJV)  And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practice, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people.

It was not without reason though.

(2 Ki 17:22 KJV)  For the children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they departed not from them;
17:23  Until the LORD removed Israel out of his sight, as he had said by all his servants the prophets. So was Israel
carried away out of their own land to Assyria unto this day.

The church remains in Assyria....TO THIS DAY...RIGHT NOW!  The church continues to walk in the sins of the church fathers....we are still being punished for their sins and ours in which we continue to walk.

In Lamentations we see our predicament of the church:

Lamentations:
5:1  Remember, O LORD, what is come upon us: consider, and behold our reproach.
2  Our inheritance is turned to strangers, our houses to aliens.
3  We are orphans and fatherless, our mothers are as widows.
4  We have drunken our water for money; our wood is sold unto us.
5  Our necks are under persecution: we labour, and have no rest.
We have given the hand to the Egyptians, and to the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread.
7  Our fathers have sinned, and are not; and we have borne their iniquities.
8  Servants have ruled over us: there is none that doth deliver us out of their hand.
9  We gat our bread with the peril of our lives because of the sword of the wilderness.

Our church fathers have sinned in the past and the church has been suffering ever since under the punishment of God.(by his rod..the Assyrians)...the fathers  are no longer here but we, the church, are bearing the punishment under the rod of the wicked leaders.  The Assyrians are present in the church as a result of past sins in the church  and the sheep are suffering for it today.  Even though we as the church suffer for the punishment for their sins, we are not to DIE (the second death) for the sins of the church fathers.  Christ comes to lead us to the living water....to repentance of our sins for being part of the church sins which has been passed down....when we hear the trumpet sounding we are to take heed and come out of Babylon.  When we hear the Lord knock on the door...when we hear His voice...we are to open it...he will have us understand. We are to come out of Babylon for God will atone for our sins.  God atones us....the day of atonement. The day of atonement is the day in which the high priest enters the inner sanctuary of the Temple to make reconciling sacrifices for the sins of the entire nation...the nation of Israel...that would be us as well as the Jews..  If we refuse to depart from our sins, we will die for our own sins....the second death.

(Deu 24:16 KJV)  The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin.

Whoever has taught the sheep to sin will be called least in the kingdom of God:

(Mat 5:19 KJV)  Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

We have been eating unclean things in Assyria...the church has returned to worldly things....worldly idols...we need to flee from the idols.

(Hosea 9:3 KJV)  They shall not dwell in the LORD'S land; but Ephraim shall return to Egypt, and they shall eat unclean things in Assyria.

In Revelation, it is called Jezebel's teachings in the church...she seduces my servants (church leaders) to commit fornication...which is taught to the sheep to do....and to eat things sacrificed to idols....unclean things:

(Rev 2:20 KJV)  Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.

"Servants" are people of God who are chosen to do a job for God...being a pastor, messenger, imparting knowledge, turning others to righteousness, etc.

The Lord redeems us...He redeems us from the sins committed in the church and redeems us from the oppressors in the church.

(Isa 52:3 KJV)  For thus saith the LORD, Ye have sold yourselves for nought; and ye shall be redeemed without money.
52:4  For thus saith the Lord GOD, My people went down aforetime into Egypt to sojourn there; and the Assyrian oppressed them without cause.

The Lord redeems us.  He breaks the yoke of the Assyrians...the wicked church shepherds!

(Isa 14:25 KJV)  That I will break the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains tread him under foot: then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders.
