I am Angela Lucas. I have had the good fortune to be born and raised in beautiful California. This June, I will get to know my home state intimately as I bike from San Francisco to LA in seven days as part of the California AIDSRide 8 (CAR8). I have also undertaken to raise a minimum of $2,700 to save lives. The pledges I collect from people like you support those most affected by the epidemic -- people already infected with HIV and those most at risk for contracting the disease.

I am not a cyclist. I am not even much of an athlete. But I know I can do this ride. Last year at this time I was training for the Napa Valley Marathon, which I ran in March. After the race, I realized the challenge wasn't so much the 26.2 miles I ran that day, but the 400 training miles I ran in the months before. Since cycling is new for me, I'll be riding as much as I can to get ready. I'll be posting my training log so you can check my progress towards the big ride.

Of course I can't do it alone. There will be 2,700 of us doing the ride. Luckily the ride organizers and volunteers offer tremendous support, from advice about training and bikes to setting up the tent city for us each night. For more details about CAR8, you can learn all about the ride, and also about the cause I'm riding for.

And I can't do it without you! I've committed to train for and ride 575 miles, and to do it I'll need to raise at least $2,700. Knowing that I'm riding for something much greater than myself will keep me going. I'm asking everyone to give what they can. Every bit helps me towards my goal. Not only are the donations tax deductible, but they can be made online or in installments. Please visit my sponsor page to read about where the money goes and they many ways you can donate. Even if you can't make a pledge, feel free to email me a few words of encouragement to help me along, or cheer me along the way.

I'mPossible. It's the motto of the ride, and what I'll be reminding myself on every training ride and all along the ride itself. Thank you for your support and encouragement!

What we need are more people who specialize in the impossible.
