Discover Kolkata
My Magazine

With the launch of numerous  websites every alternate day, I could not resist my temptation of making my humble presence felt on the net. I belong to the City Of Joy, Kolkata (previously known as Calcutta).

This city claims a strong cultural, literary and religious flavour.  It is also the birth place of many great Indian leaders and freedom fighters. Kolkata is vibrant through its major activities in the field of fine arts, music, dance, theatre and literature. This makes the city a happening place round the year. The calm of the majestic Hoogly river flowing beside, combined with the rush of the people on the streets blended with cacophony of traffic

horns makes Kolkata different from the others. One would never forget an experience in this charming city during the Durga Puja which is the biggest festival, when the entire city gets decorated with a bridal beauty. The stunning illumination and breathtaking decoration of Puja Pandals holds everybody spellbound. It is during this time there is a tremendous in-rush of tourist arriving from different corners of the world to enjoy the warmth and feeling of this throbbing festive atmosphere.

I have chosen the theme of my site as Discover Kolkata. This link leads to various pages where you would find large amount of information about this vibrant and charming city. The source of these information are various books, newspapers and the internet.

The maidan which is often referred as the city's lungs, is an enormous open expanse occupying about 1,300 acres (500 hectares) along the river and is the chief recreation area used by Kolkattans.

It is one of the classic architecture representing a mixture of classical western and Mughal style.

Take a take time off from the hub-bub of the city for short trips to various nearby tourist spots. Only 183 Km from Kolkata and very well connected is Digha Beach, a romantic holiday beach on the coast of Bay of Bengal.

  Religious Places

For the religious minded people, the are quite a number of religious places in the vicinity of the city. The famous Dakshineswar Temple, Kalighat, Belur Math,  St. Paul's Cathedral to name a few.
