Places of InterestOf course as a rockhound my favorite place
to shop when you set your course for Newport, should be FACETS Gem & Mineral Gallery- which after 20 years on Hwy 101, is NOW centrally located and easy to find. FACETS NEW headquarters and showroom is now located just one block west of McDonald's Golden Arches, off NW 12th St at
1240 NW Grove St. They now have better parking access! This is one of the last true rock shops on the coast for the hobbiest or creative craftsmen. I found this shop to be recommended by
the following book:
"Driving the Pacific Coast", Oregon and Washington Scenic Driving Tours along Coastal Highways, by Kenn Oberrecht. Where he noted FACETS Gem & Mineral Gallery, in Newport, for its "large selection of shells, gemstones, mineral specimens, jewelry, and various gift items, tastefully displayed. Many rare and hard-to-find collector's items including fine museum-quality fossils. An interesting shop for nearly everyone. A must see for those interested in minerals, gemstones, fossils, and the like."
They are definitely the people
to see for any field guides/maps or further regional information of agate
collecting on Oregon's Central Coast.
