Athletics Li breaks 30-year record

By MIKE FIELD

Wsaton's athletics club's Macau-based speedster Lei Vai Kun completely stole the show last night with a record-breaking men's 400meters performance at the Hong Kong-ASD(USA) athletics friendship meet held on a rain-swept Wan Chai Sports Ground.

Li clocked a blistering 48"41 seconds in atrocious conditions to erase William Hills hand-time 48"50 seconds Hong Kong Amateur Athletics Association record set nearly 30 years ago in 1965.

Wong Sum Fat of the Hong Kong junior team trailed a distance second in 51"62 followed by American Mark Bush in 52"55.

Li has been selected to represent Macau in the Hiroshima Asian Games following an oustanding run in Taiwan last month where he clocked 48"11asaints an international class field.

Apart from Li's recordbreaking run performance in the match against the  American squad were largely very ordinary on the soden track.
