Work Area Tools
Workshop area waiting for Qucikbuild Kit

Small crate on left is empennage that was shipped back from Alexander Technical's Workshop
I picked up this really neat tool at Sun N Fun 2004.

I had trouble with the 20-25 inch/lbs torque for AN3 bolts. My torque wrench starts at 20 inch/lbs and didn't seem to work well in that range.

This
torque screw driver is perfect as I can put a 3/8" socket in it and it works well in small spaces. I am building a QB and Van's warns you of possible loose AN3 bolts holding on the fuel tank. I found one row of 3 that were loose (in between the narrow spaced ribs) I don't think it would have be easy to get to them with a rachet type torque wrench. But with this torque screwdriver it was easy.

You can also put a phillips bit in it and it works perfect to torque the aileron pushrod bracket, where the bolt has a phillips head and the nut is impossible to get to with a torque wrench.

I  found this tool at the
Snap On booth, it cost about $136 (show special). I went to the booth twice during the day because I really didn't want to spend the money, but I ended up buying it.

It's one of those tools you hate to spend that much money on, but once you have it you're glad you did. I feel a lot more comfortable about torgue on the bolts I have put in now.
