Neglected plot discovered in 2002
In 2002, we visited Watamu for the first time in years. It was obvious that the house had suffered from benign neglect. After years of renters, many of which were unknown to the family, the toll on the home was apparent.
Years of neglect allowed vegetation to overgrow and obstruct views of the ocean. Most of the furniture was made of concrete.
The verandah was redeemable and appeared to be the only part of the house not needing work. We discovered a new structure on the property. We were surprised, but pleasantly surprised to find out that renters used this spot to take meals while overlooking the ocean.
The timeless beach was the same and probably always will be.
