   Cancer
   Signs & symptoms:
   Superficial spreading melanoma: small lesion with irregular border and red white blue or black- blue spots on    trunk or limbs.
   Nodular melanoma: Shiny firm dome-shaped bumps anywhere on the skin.
   Acral lentiginous melanoma: dark lesions on palms, soles, tips of fingers and toes or mucous membranes
   Lentigo maligna melanoma: large brown spot with darker speckles on skin over-exposed to sun.

   Melenoma is the deadliest but the least common of all the cancers. It typically arises painlessly from cells that produce the skin's pigment. Approximately 70 % of these cancers appear on normal skin, 30 % arise from an exsisting mole that has undergone sudden changes.
    The cancer first spreads in the surrounding skin and is highly curable at this phase. If not treated, the tumor then spreads downward into other areas of the skin or to lymph nodes or internal organs.
     Superfiial spreading melanoma accounts for 70 % of cases and strikes at any age. Nodular melanoma may ulcerate and fail to heal completely. It can develop anywhere on the skin, usually between the ages of 20-60.
     Acral Lentiginous melenoma: accounts for 10 % of the cases and is more common in old age. Lentigo Maligna melanoma occurs in 5 % of cases. It frequently afflicts elderly persons and is associated with senile skin. A benign brownish spot may appear several years before turiing cancerous.

   Sunlight is the cheif cause of melanoma. Fair-skinned, blue-eyed, blonde or red haired persons are most vulnerable, and dark skin is the most resistant.Certain moles that may transform into melaoma can run in families.
